  2. The Motor has essentially NO Flywheel whatever and won't be Happy at Low revs particularly cold. The carbs are NOT Phased evenly. Nev

  4. This is UP there with them. People like to be associated with Winners. The cars back then bore a connection with their cars where as the Current V8 super cars do Not. The Pilot going there37,000 ft is exposed to a very real risk of Death. Is THAT Motor standard? I'd think not.   5. IF I check out someone for aeros some time in the past am I responsible IF HE does something silly and Kills Himself. IF so the System is doomed. No sensible person would be part of it. People are responsible for what THEY DECIDE to do. Not try to Get compensation from some other Party For A DECISION that No Normal thinking person would have MADE. You can't educate people to Be risk averse IF they Aren't.. And it's NOTHING Like RACE cars where People enter events at specified Places. .   7. Believe ME to do it right is a very precise Thing. The Nose attitude must achieve a very stable speed which us well controlled and the ASI will read wrong depending where the Pitot is and which way you are turning/slipping. Power is at idle so that can't be used . It's just relying on Nose attitude done smoothly and positively. This must be mastered at a safe height. It only suits certain (Mainly Unflapped ) Planes. It's unpleasant for Passengers. Not compulsory IF you are not comfortable with it. Nev

  10. You need lots more information on this Matter to be experimenting, The WRIGHT flyer was capable of SLIPPING sideways and coming to grief as it had no KEEL surface to speak of. It's NOT just DRAG.. At the recovery you have a considerable ROD. THAT must be accounted for to Flare and that often causes a Ballooning and excess float, when the drag is normal loosing the purpose of the sideslip to an extent and de-stabilising your Landing.. You should NOT learn/do this other than with a good Instructor. Nev

  12. An autopilot doesn't know when it's in cloud. You still have to know where the HILLS are and get out of the Cloud safely. You can also run out of daylight, OR fuel, mucking around.. Nev

What pressure was the coolant system at and how was the Oil Prevented from freezing as well as the PILOT. Any Motor Boosted sufficiently would maintain Power. The OAT would be Minus 56 c and the pressure 2.7 Psi. Nev

  18. I would NOT Brush off the Mt Beauty Event. I believe the RAAus had little control of it, in Reality. THAT person was always going to fly, almost No matter what. The flying conditions were the cause of death. Nev
  19. You fly 'Visual" Mostly by reference to the Horizon. The Artificial Horizon replaces the true Horizon when IFR and that was referred to as "ATTITUDE Instrument Flying".. You are correct about the Primacy of what the eye sees in Orientation. Everyone thinks they will be able to SENSE which way is DOWN when in Cloud. WRONG. Dynamic Loads come into Play and your Inner ear semi circular Canals and the "seat of the Pants" feel Play tricks on you. The Pilot MUST absolutely TRUST the Instruments and a GYRO is an essential Part of it for "rigidity" in space. Hope this Helps. Nev
  20. Lambourgini never set any great records for reliability. Sharing lubricants makes things unnecessarily difficult. I think that GEARBOX IS separate. It appears to be sealed off. Gearbox cases have to be very strong. and it's probably East West & FWD. No bevel Gear. Nev

  22. Long studs have been breaking. The alloy engine Parts expand more than the steel studs do thermally and they stretch. A fairly common problem in such situations. Nev
  23. Some outboards Have split Big ends even though they are roller, other wise the Cranks would have to be pressed up. Heads are often gasketless with 'O' rings .You can have lots of studs as the Ports are well away. Nev
  24. Over stressing WOULD occur., Whether the damage shows is another Matter. Aero engines that have exceeded the RPM Limit are Junked whether they still run or not. Crack testing doesn't show everything. Aero engines are Built as light as Possible, consistent with reliability. Nev
