  1. How can you be required to PAY for something you don't GET? Nev
  2. Yeah This is stuff everyone should know and UNDERSTAND and it's not a complete coverage. WHO does Level Figure 8's perfectly or a Power off wingover? Stalls are a Joke in how they are dealt with in Most training, except It's NOT a Joking Matter. Nev
  3. You Massively Over-react sometimes Skip and seem so definite as to what one should seek to get from an aeroplane. We are all different (Thankfully) and I don't think its good to Impose one's Own values on others choices so forcefully as you have done on this Little Plane in Particular. The whole world can read what's Published HERE. I say to anyone who has the guts to try Market a Plane "Good ON YOU" We need more of this. Knockers are a dime a dozen. Nev
  4. Avdata are a Hard to deal with and costly Debt collector which should not be Involved in the equation in the first Place without the Customers knowledge or agreement. . Nev
  5. Seat of the Pants helps if you're very familiar with the Plane but those indicators take the Guesswork out of being close and they don't get tired late in the day. Nev
  6. Could easily be the CASE. Nev.
  7. I can confirm that this Kind of information is very valuable to the Pilot . Every largish plane has it in some form or other. It's good confirmation of the real situation regarding the wings AoA. that the airspeed alone can not give. Nev.
  8. Turbo Props can have a lot of drag due to high amount (ratio) of the Gearing . With a flame out the drag can be multiples of the Max thrust. That's why they have Auto-Feather Min control speed V(mca) is not a lot different on either side. but with both engines turning in the same direction, One side will be Better than the Other. IF you are Below the Min speed the full rudder application will be insufficient to stop Yaw and roll to the dead engine side,. Nev
  9. It would be difficult to structure a Wing to warp satisfactorily at High speeds (damping). As KG says it's real good for LOW speed manoeuvring. Tiny controls work at High cruise speeds. Savage control capability at high speed risks overloading the Airframe inadvertently, with just a bump of the Hand. Nev
  10. YES. That's how you rip wings off C- 210's. Happened quite a few times. Usually on a base turn in the circuit. Nev
  11. There's other deaths and injuries on the ground, unfortunately. Nev
  12. Applying aileron at High speeds applies a lot of twisting force to the Wing structure itself. You can even get aileron reversal effect. Nev
  13. No Bird ever flew supersonic.. Speed range requires those Lift devices and also the drag(Lift destroyers.) Without ground spoilers you wouldn't get Much brake effect at high speeds and the Plane could skip a long distance at touchdown. Large slotted flaps reduce the Landing distances required substantially. Planes like the B 727 are a good example. Flaps are not permitted to be extended above FL210. Spoilers anytime. Once the flaps are retracted only the smaller inboard ailerons operate.. Having the 3 engines at the rear enables full trailing edge flap to be used . The flap limits the Bank available when Landing. Nev
  14. Assymetric training it looks like, gone wrong. Sad for everyone involved and those who Know them. Nev
  15. With a lot of extra stuff added to the film that's not in the book. None the less, a very watchable and well acted film. The bike was based on a 1920 model INDIAN Scout with Mid 20s AJS ohv cylinder heads fitted and the fork and blade connecting rods milled from Tractor axle derived steel . The Pistons he cast in aluminium alloy using the Modern 3 Piece steel core method and that is shown in the film, very authentically. He retained the "clincher" Beaded edge tyres which were Pretty dicey, and can come off the Rims very easily. There's a Hardware Shop on the west coast of the South Island of NZ that still exhibits a lot of his stuff, Invercargill from Memory . Ther's a 1918 Powerplus Indian same as the One I rode across Australia about 16 years ago. I built it from bits especially for the event and everywhere I stopped at servos etc, People called it the Worlds's fastest Indian.. As well as being a reenactment of a first vehicle crossing 100 years before, it was to support Breast and Prostate cancer. All cars and bikes had to be 1918 or earlier. We did about 250 Km's average each day Service your Own vehicle. Generally. Perth to Sydney. I was one of two Vehicles that went up Victoria Pass. The other was a BSA bike with a really old chap desperate to do it the Hard way too. The alternate way was less steep it was a dirt road and the dust doesn't help those old engines and exposed chains.. Nev
  16. Same with World's fastest INDIAN. Bert Munroe. Incidently I met that Bloke at the Place where I worked in Newcastle. My boss said We aren't going to be doing much for that Bloke Sonny. HE wants everything done for Nothing. . Nev
  17. I think they are Made from a Pretty fancy Material that USA wants to Keep under wraps. Nev
  18. I've had a few Instructors who rubbish the stall stick Position concept. Firstly it IS not an airspeed, It's the wing's angle of attack to the RELATIVE airflow, and what decides THAT,? The elevators when they are effective IF you get too slow they don't work unless the Propwash comes into Play. Your engine can have a large effect on aircraft control at Lower speeds. Nev
  19. People Keep on Mucking it UP and your life and Passengers lives depend on how you manage it. Nev
  20. Anyhow that's to help you understand the Book a bit More and that's it on that subject. Back to topic. Nev
  21. The Plane has an AUW of 72,500lbs and NO Powered flight controls, and cruise around 200 Knots, 50 more than a DC-3. No anti-skid on the (Hydraulic) brakes. 4 P&W R-2000 twin Wasp 18 cyl Radial Motors 1450 Shaft horsepower with engine driven supercharger, Hamilton Standard hydramatic fully featherable props unpressured cabin. First Plane to Be able to fly the Atlantic confidently. Tricycle undercarriage, retractable with Hydraulic steering. Gear extension speed 176 Knots. Prop reduction ratio 2:1. VERY Heavy on the controls. Nev
  22. Enjoy the read. He KNOWS what He is talking about and how the SYSTEM "treats" Pilot's. Nothing has really changed. Nev.
  23. It Might but I know where a lot of skeletons lie in dark Places and I might disappear suddenly. The other aspect only some of the Blokes up the front know what really has gone on. Thers an old saying "Pilots are Like Mushrooms. Kept in the dark and fed on Bull$#!t" .. One day I allowed 2 boffins from head office to fly in the Jumps seats into Sydney when there was a lot of hail around and we were busy dodging the Storm cells with the Weather radar on the way in and the ride was quite rough. They both said "You blokes DO EARN you Money Sometimes don't you?. I thought that was something. Many Pilots have Lots of stories. Some of it would not be believed or comprehended. Read "Fate is the Hunter". That is the Book which inspired me the Most, By Ernest K Gann from memory and I spent 5 years flying the Douglas DC 4 / C-54. which is the Plane HE flew. Co incidence? Who Knows? But the De icing system is Not up to the Job.. Nev.
  24. On the age Pension I can't even afford to eat out. I still get all the Material from CASA, RAAus and A lot of overseas sources. I've always pushed Light and U/L planes Meet with plenty of active Pilots and their Pilot (usually Airline) offspring and no doubt could get Offers of flying and do some but I have had a good run across the entire spectrum (Bar Seaplanes) and have nothing to prove to Myself anymore. I still pick up a LOT of information from very Knowledgeable Blokes and I pick their Brains enthusiastically, because it all still fascinates me Intensely. You can't do something full time for the Major Part of your adult life and just ignore it. I went to the Glider Museum at Bachus marsh about a Month ago and got A whole lot Out of that. I was into powered Models at the age of 12.. Nev
