  1. signing a few new ts and cs does not bother me at all. won't affect me flying around on the weekends.
  2. mercury outboards being 2 stroke had to have all the pistons inserted with the crank in one go .
  3. steyr marine diesels are jug engines as are most mercury outboards up to the 1990s
  4. doing a couple of circuits tonight i side slipped in to avoid overflying a house. i straightened out around 200 ft. just wondering how low is considered safe when slipping. i haven't done a lot of it so far.
  5. Yes it has the wall adaptor mike.
  6. Just wanted to post some feedback For Ian's shop. I was looking for a radio scanner so I can check the local atis from home. Found one here , looks like a great little unit. I also checked my local Jaycar and they could not match the price. Thanks Ian for providing this resource and now I will be doing some more shopping on clearprop.👍
  7. Hi mate. What stage are you at with the Jabiru now.
  8. They sounded unreal. I remember them racing at Paynesville in Victoria. Miss bud was the one I recall.
  9. There is a big difference between wa which has no mountain country and the east coast. I think inaccessible mountain terrain is where aerial firefighting excels. Especially since Greenies have stopped logging and locked out the mountain cattlemen.
  10. Don't think I ever worked on a petrol motor with roller cam followers. Yella terra roller rockers were a flash add on when doing up a Holden red motor.
  11. I sat beside one of Coulson's Chinook pilots on my way home from the US the other day. He had 2 weeks in Sydney training with 20 other chopper pilots. How many chinooks do the RFS have..
  12. Thanks Danny. Interesting that roush stock the parts. They are well known for vehicle performance
  13. All true , but what about parts availability. Is there a huge stock of war surplus parts about or does someone manufacture new gaskets, valves etc for them.
  14. How do they keep all those Merlin's running. So they have a large supply of war surplus parts
  15. It's ok nev. I don't ever hope to have your knowledge and experience. I take onboard what you say but I disagree about the paddock landings. As you know my lightweight rag and tube glides like a brick so need to get it on the ground quick If engine fails. It stops flying at 38 knts with me and half fuel .
  16. Yes. I just work on the assumption that it will but I am sure it will be a huge surprise still if it does.
  17. Probably why sale is quiet too. I know one person who has had a go at Wellington shire . They have been double charging him using the cameras at each end.
  18. whatever negatives you lot throw at me i will still land in a clear paddock when the time comes. and what do you call those things past the end of the runway with cows in them. are we not taught to land inside a 30 deg cone straight ahead with efato. not encourage people to turn back.
  19. i have not chopped and changed , i merely pointed out what i considered good emergency landing sites , especially for my little aircraft. do you think the cut and windrowed grass might be a hint the paddock has been driven on. if i showed a pic of a long bitumen runway there would be a reason not to land on that too.
  20. where is the bank on boom irrigated paddocks . most water efficent irrigation there is. have a look at the pictures . if i have an engine failure you recommend i don't look for a paddock to land in. complete opposite of every instructor i have flown with.
  21. these paddocks are LASER LEVELLED. Not ploughed. They are graded with a blade. Flat as a road. Designed to make the water flow to a catchment at one end for reuse.
  22. yes, would hate to land on a firm laser levelled paddock.
  23. have you not done precautionary search in your training. clear paddocks are the preferred landing area.
  24. they are not soft.
  25. A bloke told me this yesterday. He rang them this week about getting a marap for an engine change and got told raa are no longer doing them as they have now contracted the work out. I bet it becomes too painful to bother with.
