  1. i know someone who made his own 912 fuel injection but kept the bing carbys as well. he could switch between either. i think it was more for backup until the injection system was proven. if it was me i would keep it like that.
  2. there are many to choose from these days. there some nice small superchargers on jetskis.
  3. if you know anyone with trucks that go to dandenong sth you can have it if you want it. it would be good for someone like you to play with. i don't have any use for it.
  4. yes it was discontinued. parts are very hard to get. the non turbo version is supported by quicksilver, they stock everything for them.
  5. a friend sold a gazelle a few weeks back. i was considering it but stuck with the xair. anyway the other day the buyer phoned the seller and said he had submitted the transfer and acr and raaus stopped it because the engine is running on condition. he purchased a newer engine and is having it fitted. A lot of expense considering the original motor is at 2300 hours and passes every test. thats why i like 19 reg . No one cares about that stuff. not at the moment anyway. i have to agree about the cost versus reward of flying as a hobby. $3000 p/a hangar fee. $40 p/h fuel, $6 every time my wheels touch the runway, 500 in reg and membership. hardly affordable flying like they used to promote. and as alf jessup said , at west sale we can only fly 2 days a week in the raaf airspace. those rc models with the cockpit view are looking pretty good.
  6. i fly an xair without an autopilot😁. but on a serious note that hks engine i have is all electronic. dual ignition. dual computer and dual electric fuel pump. i have never seen so much wiring for such a small engine. the non turbo version looks much neater with the 2 bing carbs.
  7. maybe you should contact raaus and deal with facts.
  8. you told me i wasn't allowed to have a trim tab unless i flew a spitfire, i think thats a bit of exaggeration.
  9. it is a casa rule not raaus
  10. Well maybe you blokes need to have all the conversations I did with raaus. I am not picking stuff out of the air I spoke to several senior raaus staff and got the same response from all. You must build the aircraft or assist in the building of it to use it for training. This is 19 rego I am talking about. And yes if you handed the builder a spanner and he puts you down as assisting them you are covered. And builder is a bit of stretch for a lot of kits in my opinion. Maybe assembler is a better term. Most rag and tube ultralights are a Meccano set with some pull on skins yet they are classes the same as a plans built jodel for example. Bit of an insult to the scratch builder.
  11. What hp is getting with the blower
  12. What a great idea. Engine won't perform on the ground so let's try it in the air.. Darwin award candidate there. Lucky he is still around to talk about it..
  13. been there for years. raaus/auf would not let him register a twin engine aircraft. they had plans for these in america, i guess thats one of them.
  14. we did have light patchs of fog this morning . not the usual pea soup we get.
  15. true. i was seeing what the glide was like. over the runway
  16. Another great morning for flying. Did 1.4 hrs . A few touch and goes. Would like to do more but council is discouraging that with there silly fees. Very hazy but smooth air. Wind 4 knts. Dew point and temp were even. I believe I might have had a bit of carby icing. On the ground fast idle is 3000 rpm and smooth as silk. Today coming in to land dropped it to 3000 a couple of times and it stumbled and ran rough. Had to bump it up to 4000. Back on the ground it was fine.
  17. silly rules by casa as i found out, not raaus . you only have to assist in the build to qualify. if you bought the aircraft off someone you knew and handed him a spanner or did a couple of bolts up then you are allowed to train in it because you assisted in the build.
  18. it might only be an ultralight but i think its a great learning and hour building platform.
  19. i have no problem with your comments. i might learn something. not sure if a spitfire is a good comparison. if i relax my feet off the pedals it will go hard left and drop the nose. i just want it to behave when i relax a bit. like i said i didn't have that problem with the other 2. one 582 powered with a 2 blade sweetapple prop. the other 2200 jabiru powered with 2 blade sensenich prop
  20. its not just me. go back a page you will see robinsm had a rudder trim tab on his xair as well .
  21. i couldn't care less about a spitfire nev. i get a sore leg keeping the ball in the center. it needs a trim tab.
  22. this is my third xair. i know how it should fly. it would be a big job to offset the engine on the xair mount. i imagine the only way would be to oval the holes in the mounting plate and i don't want to do that. i think the reason this one needs trim tabs is because it has a 72 inch 3 blade and 3.47-1 reduction.
  23. nothing to with carb heat so might be off topic. had a great flight this morning . 1.25 hrs , did a few landings to adjust the weatherseal trim tabs i put on. 10 knt easterly and 14 knts on the last landing. staright down the strip. landed with 50 knts airspeed and 36 ground. good fun.
  24. i had a go with the weather seal strips today. need to cut the rudder one down a few inches and it will be pretty good. aileron piece may need a bit added. i think i would prefer to make the aileron tab adjustable though.
