  1. What a great idea. Engine won't perform on the ground so let's try it in the air.. Darwin award candidate there. Lucky he is still around to talk about it..
  2. been there for years. raaus/auf would not let him register a twin engine aircraft. they had plans for these in america, i guess thats one of them.
  3. we did have light patchs of fog this morning . not the usual pea soup we get.
  4. true. i was seeing what the glide was like. over the runway
  5. Another great morning for flying. Did 1.4 hrs . A few touch and goes. Would like to do more but council is discouraging that with there silly fees. Very hazy but smooth air. Wind 4 knts. Dew point and temp were even. I believe I might have had a bit of carby icing. On the ground fast idle is 3000 rpm and smooth as silk. Today coming in to land dropped it to 3000 a couple of times and it stumbled and ran rough. Had to bump it up to 4000. Back on the ground it was fine.
  6. silly rules by casa as i found out, not raaus . you only have to assist in the build to qualify. if you bought the aircraft off someone you knew and handed him a spanner or did a couple of bolts up then you are allowed to train in it because you assisted in the build.
  7. it might only be an ultralight but i think its a great learning and hour building platform.
  8. i have no problem with your comments. i might learn something. not sure if a spitfire is a good comparison. if i relax my feet off the pedals it will go hard left and drop the nose. i just want it to behave when i relax a bit. like i said i didn't have that problem with the other 2. one 582 powered with a 2 blade sweetapple prop. the other 2200 jabiru powered with 2 blade sensenich prop
  9. its not just me. go back a page you will see robinsm had a rudder trim tab on his xair as well .
  10. i couldn't care less about a spitfire nev. i get a sore leg keeping the ball in the center. it needs a trim tab.
  11. this is my third xair. i know how it should fly. it would be a big job to offset the engine on the xair mount. i imagine the only way would be to oval the holes in the mounting plate and i don't want to do that. i think the reason this one needs trim tabs is because it has a 72 inch 3 blade and 3.47-1 reduction.
  12. nothing to with carb heat so might be off topic. had a great flight this morning . 1.25 hrs , did a few landings to adjust the weatherseal trim tabs i put on. 10 knt easterly and 14 knts on the last landing. staright down the strip. landed with 50 knts airspeed and 36 ground. good fun.
  13. i had a go with the weather seal strips today. need to cut the rudder one down a few inches and it will be pretty good. aileron piece may need a bit added. i think i would prefer to make the aileron tab adjustable though.
  14. Keep comments to a minimum. After 5 pages of comments 😁
  15. have you come up with your alieron trim yet skip. i am going to see if i can fit a light bungy cleat system like you described earlier. then a fixed tab for the rudder. the other option i have been thinking about is rc servo operated tabs a bit like ilevil tabs. very simple .
  16. They were popular and had a good rep. I don't know if they are still available. Pretty long in the tooth now. It would be interesting to know if it was the engine or the redrive.
  17. Suzuki geo .1.3 Lt car engines are popular in gyros and some planes. They have been used for years. Proven very reliable.
  18. The aircraft version is smoothed out by the counterweight
  19. Hope I didn't offend you. I was joking
  20. Probably the only way to get enough blade area to absorb the power. Imagine the size of a 2 blade on. 2000 HP turbo prop
  21. these photos are off an old thread on this site
  22. The one I saw a photo of was on a pod mounted electric motor that folded away behind the cockpit. Might have been a giant scale model too.
  23. Yes , also used on motorgliders
