    i fail to see how someone so critical of rotax can be so supportive of this engine. but i must also state i have found some good reports on the rotec and some of the bad ones are definitely operator error.

    Bloody hell. Not ad for rotecs. What happened to the 3 cylinder radial that was being developed in south Australia. I know they had a demo driving around in a vw beetle.

    Trouble is a lot of customers have had a bad experience and been ignored or abused if they contact them. Hopefully they have the radials sorted out by now.

    I am surprised Scott chose that motor. I know it looks good but at the risk of destroying the aircraft in an engine out. I have been into rotecs workshop and they were doing some impressive work on jabs and airframe repairs. But I haven't purchased anything either. I was pretty disappointed reading how some customers have been treated.

    It's not an uncommon situation for buyers of these engines unfortunately.

    The ideal engine would be the gnome rotary replica being manufactured in NZ . I can't find it but it is supposed to be a well mad engine. And reliable.

    i see windsocks that are tattered occasionally, if it was me i would have built a tabernacle mast to hang them on. so it could be lowered to replace the sock. bad things can happen to old farts on high ladders.

    this is a beautifully finished camel by scott matthews at latrobe valley. some of you may have watched his videos of the build over the last 3 years. finished now and a real credit to scott.

    what happened to powermates. i know they stopped making them. well made and reliable. probably couldn't compete with imports i suppose.

    Did a few circuits today to try out the aileron bungee trim. It works great. I can let go of the stick now and it just flies along wings level. Still have to lean on the rudder but not as much as before. Very happy with the bungee, next plan is to make a tidier permanent setup.

    yes it would have been the kfm. great motors but under powered.

    i fitted a 6mm bungee from the stick to a cam cleat like you blokes have mentioned. i think it is going to work well. i couldn't try it on the wekend because the raaf base shut the airspace for the weekend. buggers.

    yes.it was the first production jabiru. serial 003. 001 and 002 were 582 powered prototypes. the 1600 motors were not good 2 up training so hedley flying school in queensland got an stc from casa and had 3 of them converted to 80 hp 912s. it lives at castlemaine now.

    i am curious. quite often i read about twins that go down on one engine. why would you not make them powerful enough to climb and fly on one.

    the jabiru lsa 55 that i wish i had never sold was 912 powered and the battery was about a foot behind the fuel tank in the back and the oil tank was beside the fuel tank behind the right seat. the expansion tank was under the panel on the right side. it was a pretty tight fit in the center console with the fuel lines and 2 half inch oil lines and battery cables.

    thats how sam ganow of rebuild rescue died. the airport he took off from was above the maximium ceiling for one engine. as soon as he took off one engine failed and all he could do was fly into the ground . died from get there itis. one side tank had water in it from a perished fuel cap seal and never did a fuel drain check ..

    It is worth it for sure. This is the sort of stuff that can really help us student pilots
