  1. Below from AvPlans website. Be great if OzR shared their data because then you would also get the OzR non ADSB out aircraft showing up. AvPlan Live has had a major update – we’re now feeding in live ADSB traffic and glider traffic from a network of ground based ADSB receivers. AvPlan EFB users with AvPlan Live enabled (Settings, AvPlan Live Tracking) will see traffic from these systems as well as other AvPlan EFB equipped aircraft. Turn on the display of traffic on the map page by tapping Map Settings, Traffic. Traffic positions update every 5 seconds when your device has a good GPS lock. We send all targets visible to our network within 150 nm of your aircraft and within 15000ft of your altitude. ADSB Live Traffic works well when combined with your own ADSB-in device in your aircraft. AvPlan EFB supports almost all commercially available ADSB-in devices and these can be used with all AvPlan EFB subscriptions at no extra charge. Help us expand the reach of our ADSB network by hosting an ADSB feeder. These small devices need to be connected to an internet connection and use a small amount of network bandwidth and power. They need to be installed in a location with a good view of the sky. Enter your details below and we will be in contact to organise your ADSB feeder. Feeder locations will be chosen to best expand the existing network into regional areas.
  2. Lived at Lakes, or in the vicinity, for many years. Still think of it as home. Spent a smoky Christmas there with the family. Clem at Kalimna was his usual welcoming self, and our aircraft was happily tied down for the week. We flew home on the 29th December. Fortunately we had refuelled at Bairnsdale on the way in. Inland was very smoky. So we flew home coastal.
  3. Don't think this is quite right. Sadly Chris Govel is one of the victims. But don't think he was (ever) CFI of Soar Aviation.
  4. If we didn't live and work near YMMB this would be a definite thought ...
  5. I'm just back from flying in the Catalina from Ardmore to Kaitaia via Whangarei, spending a couple of days at Kaitaia, then back to Ardmore via Kerikeri, again in the Catalina. The scenery was amazing! And the friendliness and hospitality of the aero club at Kaitaia, the flying school at Kerikeri and the other pilots we met on the flight and along the way was outstanding. Good luck with the move.
  6. As an AvPlan user I can't comment re OzRunways (I switched years ago). But I find AvPlan fairly intuitive. The display is easy to read. And they are incredibly responsive if you do have a query. It's working well on my Android phone as well as on my iPad.
  7. Only significant difference for us to these figures would be if its somewhere like Moorabbin or even Tyabb the hangarage would be at least $500 per month so $6,000 per annum for one aircraft. Moorabbin also has an access fee in excess of $2,000 per annum for an RV.
  8. These days I think it is Student - RPL - PPL - CPL. But you definitely don't have to do an RPL and can progress further without one. Our non aerobatic aircraft has a Garmin G3X touch with a G meter. The Bristell's in the SOAR fleet at Moorabbin also has these, and I think their Foxbats may also have them.
  9. I'm not going into the whys/wherefores of training for CPL starting in Foxbats and Bristells - totally outside my knowledge base. But .. most of the Soar fleet at Moorabbin are VH registered.

  11. Perhaps people might be found earlier which could lead to a different outcome. Also, regardless of outcome, lets the families know earlier what has happened.
  12. Doubt it. Ring a Dame to check, but I know blokes who are still flying GA post having prostates removed.
  13. Umm while I know people who have lost their Class 2 medical, I also know people with cancer who only lost it for 12 months. And many forms of skin cancer are no issue at all.
  14. Helpful. Not ... mean .. perhaps
  15. Like the discussion regarding the loss of a Bristell leaving Shell Harbour yesterday becoming a discussion around other things ... obviously suits many but ...
  16. Umm a thread consistently coming back up to the top can mean a few people are having a chat. If it was a new thread, with an appropriate subject heading, others may also be interested.
  17. Umm such a friendly turn of phrase. I don't think a little thread drift is a problem. But when it keeps going perhaps starting a new thread may make it easier for people looking at the site to find what they are looking for ....... If you are involved in the discussion on the thread drift you know what it is about, but if you come in a little later, or after not looking for awhile it isn't quite the same. Generally I just move on rather than try and work out what is going on. If that makes me a pedant well so be it.
  18. Yep, but the media are never wrong .... not .... also I think there was only one person on board, not two.
  19. Hope they are both okay. https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/pilot-trapped-in-moorabbin-airport-plane-crash/news-story/1f1ad73a83869c033b87d5270b18ca54
  20. MIght be worth editing the name of this thread. Plane Crash Today has kind of lost its meaning. Given a plane has crashed at YMMB this morning.
  21. The Basic Class 2 here uses a commercial driver standard, but you must meet it unconditionally except for glasses and hearing aids. There are many conditions that mean that pilots aren't eligible for a Basic Class 2 and that they may be able to get a Class 2. basic-class_2-medical-certificate-fact-sheet-pilots.pdf
  22. Maybe let them know. ?
  23. On the SAAA website now MPC Brisbane QLD – 1st & 2nd February 2020 Maintenance Procedure Course Tickets – Brisbane QLD Dates: Saturday 1st February & Sunday 2nd February 2020 Venue: To Be Confirmed Time: 8.30am to 4.00pm each day (approx) This course is available to those wishing to complete the course for the first time (initial) and those who wish to refresh their knowledge and be updated on, for example, any changes to legislation. The syllabus is, however, the same for both the initial and refresher attendees and so all are invited to attend the same course events. Tea/coffee will be provided. Lunch not included. Please bring note pad with pen & pencil. The course Trainer will make contact via email approximately one week prior to the course commencement date.
  24. Perhaps check this with the SAAA Office as there has definitely been more than one this year. Narromine, at least one in Melbourne and pretty sure there was one in Temora. May well have been others.
  25. I'm confused ... often ... JBR is an RV-14A. So a MTOW of about 930kgs. Not sure how an increase to 650kgs or 750kgs would have any impact on the safety of this model?
