  1. Okay. I think there is an issue legally with raaus clearances, hence the carve out of the VFR Routes. But fairly sure GA VHF registered could get clearance to depart/return to the airport. But not to just fly around within the RA.
  2. Interesting. The ERSA states an airways clearance is required when the airspace is active. Not that it's only available for commercial flights. Do they always deny clearances for private aircraft? They are fairly accommodating when transiting through the area.
  3. They cut the VFR lanes out of the restricted areas a few years back, specifically to enable RAAUS pilots to transit. There used to be a procedure to use land or deoart West Sale when area was acrive. But it's been a few years since I moved, these days I'm usually just transmitting past. No issues with that.
  4. Sure, but aren't the VFR Routes still avaliable?
  5. Why a no fly zone. Thought them carving out the routes in and out from the airspace meant RAAus pilots could fly through?
  6. Firstly, I'd like to be clear that I'm not trying to detract from Rose's effort. Just to point out that she was the youngest female in a GA Aircraft to circumnavigate Australia solo. Not the youngest pilot to do so. They both would have had ground support. AWPA and others were meeting Rose along the way, providing food and accommodation etc. And I'm sure, assisting where asked with local knowledge etc re flight plans. And having been on several 25 plus hour flying trips I have always taken every opportunity to check my plans re airspace, terrain, fuel, runways etc with those more experienced than me. Does this mean I wasn't the PIC and that the pilots I chatted to along the way were responsible for those decisions and legs?? The Cessna would have a lot more carrying capacity than the Petrel, and doubt it's overly relevant as to who carried what. Personally I think they are both remarkable. Huge thing to have carried out successfully. Let alone at such young ages.
  7. Jennifer Hunt circumnavigated Australia solo in her Petrel last year. At 15. The youngest to do so. Rose is the youngest female in a VH registered aircraft.
  8. You're political affiliations are clear. Bit this is a flying forum and methinks it isn't the place.
  9. Thanks. So why the increase in price, and reduced availability?
  10. Ian do we know what % of Australian AvGas is produced in Corio/Geelong? I've been told it's 100%. I'm trying to understand the shortages at some airports & the steep increases i(over 50c at Moorabbin & regional NSW) In price that took place yesterday if that is the case.
  11. Regardless of Starlink, isn't a PLB mandatory for cross country flights?
  12. AvPlan with blue boundary for DRA
  13. Avplan has a satellite map, and also terrain. We consider arrying a satellite device like a Zoleo when you are remote essential. It allows 2 way SMS and email communication. Also let's our designated contacts track us. ADSB coverage is good, but not everywhere yet. Also, Moomba is definitely within a DRA.
  14. You can ask AvPlan for their overlay that shows on the Enroute section. Makes it really easy to see where it is on the charts.
  15. Is it the old WW2 hangar at Bairnsdale? 2 x usb battery packs each with a party light pointing across the doorway might help?
  16. Did you try the flashing party lights from Amazon that I mentioned earlier. Red, green, white flashes. Works in our hangar.
  17. 🤔 But pilot RAAus trained, then converted to RPL. Have you read the ATSB report?
  18. I think all pilots would benefit from spin & upset revovery training. Obviously not carried out in an raaus aircraft, but in one certified and suitable for the training.
  19. Pretty sure that I don't agree with this 🤔 I'm aerobatic rated, but think spin revovery and upset revovery training are really important for all pilots. But hey, I am no expert. 🤷‍♂️
  20. Umm a 70-horsepower Continental CD-170 engine is not a Mercedes diesel. There may have been some design input etc, but a Mercedes it isn't. and Continental have a lot of experience building aviation engines.
  21. Why is it CASAs fault? If you're in a shop and no one is watching is it the fault of the police if you steal something?
  22. More than one pilot may fly the same plane on different occasions , and one pilot can fly different planes on different days. Unless everyone has to lodge a flight plan there would be no way to match the data. 🤷‍♂️
  23. Sadly another one in the Hunter Valley today.
