  1. Regardless of Starlink, isn't a PLB mandatory for cross country flights?
  2. AvPlan with blue boundary for DRA
  3. Avplan has a satellite map, and also terrain. We consider arrying a satellite device like a Zoleo when you are remote essential. It allows 2 way SMS and email communication. Also let's our designated contacts track us. ADSB coverage is good, but not everywhere yet. Also, Moomba is definitely within a DRA.
  4. You can ask AvPlan for their overlay that shows on the Enroute section. Makes it really easy to see where it is on the charts.
  5. Is it the old WW2 hangar at Bairnsdale? 2 x usb battery packs each with a party light pointing across the doorway might help?
  6. Did you try the flashing party lights from Amazon that I mentioned earlier. Red, green, white flashes. Works in our hangar.
  7. 🤔 But pilot RAAus trained, then converted to RPL. Have you read the ATSB report?
  8. I think all pilots would benefit from spin & upset revovery training. Obviously not carried out in an raaus aircraft, but in one certified and suitable for the training.
  9. Pretty sure that I don't agree with this 🤔 I'm aerobatic rated, but think spin revovery and upset revovery training are really important for all pilots. But hey, I am no expert. 🤷‍♂️
  10. Umm a 70-horsepower Continental CD-170 engine is not a Mercedes diesel. There may have been some design input etc, but a Mercedes it isn't. and Continental have a lot of experience building aviation engines.
  11. Why is it CASAs fault? If you're in a shop and no one is watching is it the fault of the police if you steal something?
  12. More than one pilot may fly the same plane on different occasions , and one pilot can fly different planes on different days. Unless everyone has to lodge a flight plan there would be no way to match the data. 🤷‍♂️
  13. Sadly another one in the Hunter Valley today.
  14. Won't work as they aren't earthed when they are on them. Often used to have birds sitting on ours at the farm.
  15. We use party lights purchased on Amazon. They flash through red, green & white and are really effective. USB powered and under $50. Previously tried just about everything else. Bought an old parachute and kind of hung over plane. Helped but annoying. Owls did nothing 🤷‍♂️ ultrasonic thingy did nothing. 🤷‍♂️
  16. Nothing new here. But Boost doesn't have the satellite functionality. Also not just iPhone and Samsung but also Pixel 9s
  17. I debated swapping to Telstra from Boost to take advantage of the satellite messaging. Decided to stay with the Zoleo. Gives me messaging and email over satellite. Also main feature for me, GPS tracking for those holding my flight note. Works out better and cheaper than changing. When apps like Life360 work over satellite that will be a game changer for me.
  18. We're just planning on going for the Saturday. We went to the BBQ they had a few months ago. Nice people. Good strip. Welcoming locals. Owners seem lovely.
  19. Yep. Mining companies have them and some you can pay to access their data.
  20. Weather stations? I'm not meaning METARs, just normal, non-aviation weather stations. Mining companies seem to have their own?
  21. Not many weather stations in remote areas of Western Australia.
  22. I use AvPlan but think you'll need segments to lodge flight plans etc. And don't forget the time changes from nsw to south Australia to Central West to West. Easy to get caught with end of day.
