    Getting back to the drain Valves. I don't like relying on a spring OR an "O" ring. The drain VALVE(s) should all be located in the Lowest parts of the section they drain from and would frequently be in contact with water making steel unsuitable for the seating Parts, long term. Nev

    Most of My comments can easily be confirmed IF people do the research which they Can't be bothered doing because their Mind is already made up . I reserve the right to critique ANYTHING and I don't tell LIES either or Make stuff up. Unfortunately there's a Lot of absolute Crap about on line but with a bit of Honest and skilful effort you will get info you can rely on.     Kyle, IF I even slightly suggest a Rotax is not PERFECT, I get Howled down Mercilessly, no matter what facts I bring up. Most of us who have experience KNOW that NO machine is Perfect. I was Pretty good Mates with Bert Flood some time ago and he didn't say they were Fault free. I've been building, reconditioning Balancing and Modifying engines all my life Pretty successfully If I may say so judging on Performance and lack of failures Your work is quality and well based.     IF you machine all surfaces of a part accurately IT can be balanced already. IF it shakes it would be an alignment issue in most cases. Don't ignore any new vibration. Nev

    Remove and have a Plug or cork ready and clean and Lap it, then put it back in. Do you Filter your fuel or is there any sediment showing in your drain sample. Nev.

    I usually just give them a few twists each way while holding them DOWN if they are the Item I'm thinking of. Nev

    I didn't see that .Many exhaust AND some Inlet systems have a slide joint with packers but they can All Leak. The increase in the volume creates the Mixture issue. I wonder if anyone has checked the engine in a quick response situation. The standard set Up seems to be satisfactory. Nev

    Still needs restrictors to stop the Pulses. Please explain How a substantial FIXED Length pipe doesn't get stressed when the Engine changes temperature and why the Response to a rapid Power increase say when going around, would not be More compromised .Mixture wise. A plenum between the throttle and the Intake valve is never a good thing. Nev

    A U tube connected to both sides would do that or a simple flow indicator that works in both directions. The thing you need is for the settings to remain where they are when set. Nev

    Problems are often Hard to diagnose. Sometimes only done by swapping items till the faut is corrected.. Self testing built into the system can be done. Nev

    I know the car I serviced. Have you TRIED Looking it up? You'll mostly get later High Performance. stuff. This thing would Make about 160 Km/100 MPH Flat out. Nothing Racy about it .A 2 Liter Riley would do about the same. Engine not easy to get at either. I only worked on it because the Owner was a Friend and he was CARING about it. Nev

    BrenDAn there's some mention of the BMW Neue Klasse " Inspiring" the Datsun 1600 Motor but it doesn't appear to be anything like it externally or technically and had many variants. The 200B preceded it but was considered too BIG for the High cost Fuel Market at the time so the smaller capacity engine was used. There's NO comparison between those Beemers and a Datsun .At one stage the BWW ROAD Motors were the basis of their F1 Motors. We did have one of the Beemers come in that was MAKING Hard Metal in the valve gear section (Hard steel on Hard steel) and the metal bits contaminated the rest of the engine and Knackered it, EVENTUALLY. Might have been an early Model. I think they warranteed it. If you are interested look up the Coventry Climax FWB Motor. The fire Pump Engine that Became a race car Motor. It looks like a Datsun. and became the inspiration of the SMALL Hillman IMP car engine. Also IF you can dig it up the details of a 50s/ 60s MERC. 190SL Coupe engine 4 cyl and view that. Nev

    The Morris J Van had a Sidevalve Morris OXFORD motor in it. About 2 Litres. Early 50s Vintage. Good at cracking valve seats. My Cousin delivered milk in One. HE OWNED the dairy as well and I reconditioned Plenty of them where I worked. Early Datsuns copied Austin (BMC) motors. Not the BEST motor to have copied. BrenDAn I've serviced a Merc 190 . ( a very COLLECTABLE CAR) and MY best Mate rallied Datsuns from the 1600 up to Stanza SSS factory Racing specs and components. There's NO BMW motor I've seen that remotely resembles the Datsun Have a Look at the Merc Motor 4 Cyl single cam. Nev

    It's a VERY LONG time since Japanese copied Mainly English Vehicles. The Datsun 180B motor appears to be based on a Mercedes 190.. The Bellet was copied from a Hillman Toyota used some Help/liason from Cosworth and Yamaha. Ford and Mazda partnered. Datsun Became NISSAN. Nev
