    Generally speaking, it's not a good idea to fire up engines without thoroughly Warming them up which is usually about one hour in the air.. There are ways of putting clean air through radials Mainly in how you shut them down. They have a lot of flywheel effect.. Nev

    It's very rare to even see or Hear one of these "proper" Rotaries running. I'm surprised nobody seems Interested..     The Blip switch cuts the Ignition when you want reduced Power. Later Motors have throttle control (as Normal). The fuel enters through the Hollow crankshaft since the entire engine rotates with the Prop attached to it These motors used Copious amounts of Castor (vegetable) Oil and was the originator of (Wakefield) CASTROL Oils.. The Camel was difficult to fly as it turned Much more Rapidly in one particular direction due the Large gyroscopic Precession effect of the Motor . Once Pilots got used to it, It was used to advantage in aerial combat. Nev

    They use a 'BLIP' switch to control the Power. The entire motor rotates with the Prop at about 1100 RPM. Lots of Gyroscopic precession. Nev

    The Aircraft depicted are different types of aircraft from Years ago. RPT jets are required to be stabilised by at least 400 feet above runway Level. It's a higher figure with Larger and Longer planes, This Precludes a tight low turn onto a short final and Supports my contention the particular Runway is NOT suitable for the B 767. Nev

    I only used VASIS (generic) as they all use Pilots Eye height and do the same thing. Eye height Vs Wheel position varies significantly from plane to Plane. When you first go onto a plane like this, the Landing feels/appears to the Pilot like a low fly past in the small Plane you recently flew. The wheels are 70+ feet behind you as well as below you. They can also have refractive errors. with air density There could also have been some wind shear or heat from the busy road which is far too close to the end of a very short runway. Undershoots are not that rare and that one is deadly. Nev

    Was there a VASIS? That's MY Point ALL pilot's vision is constantly checked as Part of their Licence Medical. THAT runway is Unsafe for that aircraft. Nev

    A VASIS is REQUIRED for Jet Ops. Even so, the Long fuselage of that Plane has to be adjusted for. Short runway with a Major road at the Threshold it's Only a Matter of time before an Undershooting Plane comes to grief. Lucky to get away with it, and how would it be in Marginal weather? Nev

    Some times it all gets too Hard. Have your own strip and IF others use it, you have Liability issues. In the country you may find out everybody is related when you want anything done and you will always be a Blow in. . Nev

    There were Faulty components involved there. Going through the Inter-tropic convergence zone should have HAD the Captain in the cockpit, being predictably the Most critical Part of the Flight. That Plane should not have crashed. Nev
