  1. You are Making it UP mate. Nev
  2. AVDATA are an uninvited, unwanted PARASITE. Gravel surfaces Mark your Prop and aeroplane. Grass is nice to land on. Aerodrome's don't Look after them selves. It's NOT reasonable to expect to NOT pay something to use one. Councils generally just want more rate income and there's generally a majority of Residents who would Like the Planes GONE so fly Neighbourly and have open days and static shows etc. Nev
  3. There's an old saying "Bully for You". Procedure is for other people. You have had some pretty good advice. Nev
  4. Grave & Imminent relates to the current situation with the Aircraft as assessed by the PIC. There could be exceptions such as a bomb scare with information Provided by some external source or the existence of an ADIZ or war activity. Nev
  5. I can assure you that such matters don't keep Airline Pilots awake at night. Also all this is scrutinised by Pilot groups, Airline Management and legislators and ICAO. + any interested Parties. Nev
  6. You are Making it up. Imminent has nothing to do with rescue time and availability. Nev
  7. The system you describe is very unusual. The bleed air usually does the de icing too because it's hot. Nev
  8. You are making it up to suit your imagination skip. The first thing the pilots do is cope with the emergency. Then DECIDE What to do with the Plane, THEN communicate with the service you are listening on. Remember Aviate Navigate Communicate. IF an engine has to be shut down you won't be able to stay at cruise flight level. Often you won't have time to get a clearance to descend, but you have no choice. Nev
  9. In a pressurised Jet plane the air in the cockpit is obtained from engine Air bleed. In Both the cockpit smoke or fire case, the Donning of oxygen masks including goggles and microphones (intercom/radio is the first action. Any smell is serious. It's an Emergency action (Memory Item). Nev
  10. Your talents are wasted here Skippy . You should go far. It's these Peoples day job and profession. Everything they do or say is monitored while working. It's also easy to to be clever in hindsight. A "smell in the Cockpit" in a pressurised aircraft in flight, is NOT something to be lightly dismissed. A rapid descent involves being clear of other aircraft below and you can't wait for a clearence and broadcast intentions is an essential part of the Procedure . It's practiced in the simulator during checks .Nev
  11. Spoken Phonetically it's OSCAR KILO to say. November Echo Victor.
  12. It IS reasonable to pay some fee for the Use of it.. Avdata don't do much for THEIR TAKE. and it's often based on unsound data. People using a false callsign. I got billed for Ph and Mt ISA. when you say it wasn't you they don't care. As long as the Council gets some, they don't care either. IF you fly a Plane it's assumed you are rich. Nev
  13. Because they couldn't give a $#!t. nev
  14. IF getting a priority Landing is your reason You Better be SURE you get it right. Mayday IS the highest level of risk. Even Blind Freddy can see that. Nev
  15. Why, they are easy to damage in winds? And costly to fix. Nev
  16. The RR Darts were all Centrifugal compressor type which is essentially Immune from compressor stalling. It required 9 HP electric starter which had to spin the prop as well. This was often barely adequate and an over temp of the turbine would melt it. The starting fuel flow had to be preset for the conditions with a fuel trimmer dial. You would watch the TIT (Turbine Inlet Temp) like a Hawk and cut it IF it was rising too fast, or you would get a DCM. (Don't Come Monday). They used Water Meth Power enhancement for nearly ALL take offs .The Later Variants 528/532, were about 1900 HP . fitted to both the Later Viscounts and the F27 Mk2. which TAA operated to East Timor at one stage. I did that trip about once a Month under a Qantas flight number QF1308 I think.. Nev
  17. Probably due to the amount of assault weapons "out there". Lawyers who work for criminals are the Highest Paid.. Litigious societies act to stifle growth. It's JUST NOT WORTH the trouble and risk of doing certain things. Nev
  18. Not the Point. Radio is an AID and to be used when it helps. You are required by law to fly in the Most safe manner possible. AVDATA is a PITA and doesn't have an agreement with pilots individually who are forced into using it and are a Law unto them selves and very difficult to deal with. Nev
  19. You have contradicted yourself there. Nev
  20. It's real and there's no upslope as you can see whitecaps on the water nearby. Perhaps it was a downhill approach and it went way past the designated touch down markers and should have gone initiated a Go-around' by then. Nev
  21. I don't like the Idea of Plating structural steel Parts. Nev
  22. Bankstown was an ALL OVER field in those days with ONE long runway about SSE. I can't recall any T/W that would take of straight without active rudder applied, but obviously they can, sometimes. Nev
  23. The only trim adjustable other than by fixed tabs is on the elevator and it would be left in the Landing position I'm surmising and it would probably go up and down a bit and turn as well when the Airspeed varied. Nev
  24. Pathfinders expose them selves to added risks. Even BIG planes have had trouble with their Batteries. Wait TILL MORE IS KNOWN. Fire is not a good way to go. Nev
  25. Nosewheel first is a no no. Assuming there was a strong headwind, less flap would have reduced the Nose down attitude also.. Much too much speed. Nev
