  1. Carefully check it's rapid throttle response. That's what I'm concerned about Most. Nev
  2. Not really, The Ohlsson (spark ignition) Motor there was out of date Long before got a Motor. A FROG 150, about 1953. I can't recall what became of it. I only flew it control line, Once. It would have been free flight after that. Maybe it thermalled away? Nev
  3. Now I see, said the Blind Man. Nev
  4. 3 axis Planes DO fly when upside down. That's why I prefer them. Nev
  5. Just about doubled the DRAG. Nev
  6. Faux Pas. Foh Pah. "Make Not". Usually when a Comment is inappropriate.. NOT for errors of spelling or Fact. Nev
  7. FFS Fat Finger Syndrome. Nev
  8. it also covers being conned into being a NUN. Nev
  9. NEVER again Skip. Nev
  10. This "Constant power" thing is a misconstruction of the Issue. The first thing happening to an aero engine is FULL power from not fully warmed up for a max of 5 minutes, The time limit is because the engine is being used as a HEAT SINK. THEN IT climbs at METO to cruise level where it then drops Back to say 75% POWER till Top of descent. It doesn't get any rest. On one flight I did the time was 12 Hours. The four engines didn't miss a beat. (that time). Nev
  11. I personally think the chev Alloy V8 is a reasonable Motor for Aircraft, and said so BEFORE it was used in glider towing. It's NOT their High Performance engine though. It's a 2 valve Pushrod Motor. The Mercury V8 Motor is a very specialised Product. The Chev. alloy Block wouldn't like sea water. Even Cast iron doesn't. Nev
  12. Lycoming build a lot of different versions of any sized engine. Nev
  13. That's news. Are they very Popular?
  14. Yes they are mass Produced and FAR better than Older engines ever were and relatively Much cheaper trouble free (Till your battery goes flat and all the Management disappears and they have the vehicle for a week) and MORE SPECIFIC to the USE they were designed for. Not anything else Particularly, as time goes on. Nev
  15. Plenty of improvements since 1950. Materials and processes. Some heads are forged and then Milled Just because they Look the same doesn't mean they are. Nev
  16. Note. I didn't see Turbo's post before I Posted. Nev
  17. You should be talking of clearances, NOT tolerances and the clearances when the engine us Running. is what matters. 4 Valve heads are near impossible to cool effectively without liquid cooling as the 2 exhaust valves in each head are very close together. but are NOT needed. Good U/L engines shouldn't need to be complex. Liquid cooled engines run cooler than optimum for efficiency and Play up more in hot Ground temp environments. Ie Overheat on the ground if time is Prolonged. The also have the drag of radiators and vulnerability of Leaks and extra complexity, COST and weight and need to check Hoses, radiator Mounts water Pump seals etc and you don't want head gaskets and joins, IF they can be avoided. Nev
  18. Some Australian outlets for Chinese products MAY Choose to get a cheaper version. They will make what you want (as long as you keep a good eye on them). Their factories go for Miles. Chrysler/Jeep are no different .Some Indian stuff is real bad. Nev
  19. Some had 2 strokes. I can't recall one with a 912.. Nev
  20. There's already a good Little 3 blade rotor chopper on the Market that is Better than a Robbo.. Nev
  21. They are Most SUITED where the Operation is Intermittent and air cooled engines crack Heads often under those circumstances. I would not say they Make a great high Performance engine. GM make many higher performance engines than that version. Nev
  22. I had a Tomboy on Floats (Freeflight) with my first engine A Frog 150 and flew it at Killaben bay Just Opposite Rathmines ramp. You sure get a lot of rowing practice. Any residual water in it anywhere and she would spiral in. Don't bother doing it, I advise.. Nev
  23. The Chev V8 is used because its all alloy and Mainly for glider towing. It makes a lot of sense to use air-cooling for an aircraft Piston engine, Not so much in Cars these days. A Lot of TANKS used Aircooled RADIAL Motors.. Nev
  24. I always liked the Enya, (Also Japanese) for it's better external appearance but the OS 29 Performed very well, A few of my mates Purchased the FOX 35 which is a great Combat Motor but with a tendency to lose compression after a while. We did high times on our combat Motors. They weren't static exhibits. There's a HINESS 09 glow motor here too and an ED Superfury. and a new albon Merlin, and a Taipan 1.5 (missing a spraybar). AND another Big Glo thing I made Myself. Nev
  25. Why not use the Original engine? An A models Ford swinging a BIG Prop. The engine is Lightened by chiselling metal from the Block. Nev
