  1. Having read the federal and Victorian publications I cannot see any legal reason prohibiting private flying if you comply with the 4sqm directive and boarder restrictions. My opinion is the government would like everyone to remain isolated as much as possible but the regulations in place do not prohibit movement so travelling by yourself to a private hangar to operate a private aircraft appears to me to be quite legal. I say this as an aerial spray chopper just flew overhead to work on a nearby property.

The aerial spray chopper is probably considered essential industry - some sections of industry are still working.
  2. Queensland Council elections are still going ahead tomorrow. WTF? That is just as smart as all the cops leaning into cars on the border telling people they can't come.

Beggars belief. A week ago Queensland was way behind NSW and Victoria for cases, but it's been rocketing up hour by hour and may pass Victoria, which has more medical capacity, today.

  3. I am sure younger, fit or otherwise healthy people who contract it and the succumb are not in the same category of numbers as those who have underlying issues or at risk age group, etc, however, here is, sadly, another: Coronavirus victim, 21, 'had no health issues'. Now, what happens if it is your daugher, sister, niece or that of a close friend.

The first to be admitted to hospital in Melbourne a couple of days ago had a young demographic; 25s to 60s, but the sample was ony 12 and they haven't said if there were underlying illnesses such as pneumonia.

I happen to live next door to a couple who are both specialists at the local hospital; I have to say, until the conversation I has with them, I was a little, "this is over the top - as even if we all isolate, it will lay there dormant until we start mingling again".. Yes, it will if we don't wait at least 2 or so more weeks after there are NO MORE reported cases. But, as one who is an epedemiologist pointed out to me, once it dies; it dies...

Yes, if you imagine them as little mites than can crawl from your nasal excretions, and only have a life of about five hours where the spray lands it helps to visualise it (they are not mites).

I agree the flu kills many 10s of thousands of people a year

We lost most of January to inertia after we were being told by the infotrain that the 2019 flu season was one of the worst on record and killed 15,000 and the Coronavirus would kill less so people were just spreading hysteria.

In fact the flu only killed 100 last year in Australia, so no comparison.

    • Agree 1
  4. I think its closer to 30% in Australia who just can't comprehend; you only have to look at this site with the people who think we are talking about something like the flu, and ridicule anyone trying to help them.

The reason no one had masks was that we ran out before the real crisis hit.

Health workers (nurses and doctors) have been wearing the same masks and clothes for multiple shifts, and the union had started to step in when the first shipment arrived, but that is just going to emergency workers.

So the National Cabinet adopted a policy of only people who had tested positive needed masks.

  5. ....encabulated; An explanation is given below by Turbo's Engineer, Professor Hog, who had a Veterinary Degree, just like the Professor one of the TV channels hired to teach us about the Corona Virus a few days ago #.

    Professor Hog:

"We knew we had to work fast because the government was shelling out money at a frightening rate. We notice under the microscope all sample has a particular shimmer to them, a series of waving lines, like Arizona Line Dancers, so we pumped water through the Encabulator's anterior network, and produced hydrogen, which we heated by routing it through the Parkinson loop; with me1?" and the audience of 500 vigorously nodded their heads.

He went on: "this created a shimmer in the hydrogen which we saved by spinning it on the lower hard disk; we then spun it in the lower centrifuge and were able to project atoms into samples of live Covid-9 and kill it instantly.

"From there it was just a matter of miniaturising it, and mounting it on a belt which goes around the waist. A water bottle is attached to the belt and piped to the EEC, the person flips it on, and any sample of virus they come across are killed instantly - a kick in the guts so to speak."

"We think, that this product when worn by the community will wipe out the virus by about Easter. In fact our first customer who just ordered 270 million expects his Country to be free of the virus by the end of Easter."

"We have to but them" said .........

    # With the government prepared to empty the bank to pay us all hoping to kill the virus in 6 months, one of this Academic's fellow professors waded into it, and said he would have gone in hard and knocked it out early. The good Professor had been hired because of his outstanding work on the HIV virus. This virus mutated from a Chimpanzee to a human in Kinshasa in 1920, 100 years ago and he still hasn't fixed it yet.

  6. Absolutely nothing as long as you abide by the the conditions mentioned.

Flying by yourself is a perfect activity for this occasion, even better if it’s your own aircraft.

The aircraft I work on at the moment are now required to have the cockpit disinfected after every flight between crew changes.

PMcC Have a look at what Jenny Macklin (Victorian Minister for Health) said this morning, and then have a look at the six or eight categories of essential.

It's not that hard to understand.

  7. ........to avoid the spray of Swine Flu virus which Turbo had been keeping for just such an occasion.

Not many people know that when the Covid-19 virus collides with the Swine Flu virus they mate, producing a Mega-Virus capable of emasculating a man. This meant that.....

  8. ........but he was interrupted by a cane grower from Euri Creek who yelled "What XXXXXXX truths?"

bull did his best, bit it was self-evident that he hadn't calculated for one of those wankers from Euri Creek who had an answer for everything except where to find work.

One Track helped him out. "He told you" he said "He said the truths were self-evident"

This caught the cane grower by surprise. He'd heard those words before, but wasn't quite sure what they meant, so rather than make an embarrasing mistake he remained quiet.

This was all the time bull needed and he waded in with ...............

  9. Realising the critical situation, Turbo phoned Scomo. "Sign them yourself, you have my authority, now P!ss off, I'm busy!.

Mortified at upsetting his dear friend, he nevertheless typed out a Patent Application, singned it Quentin Turbine Esq, by Order of the Prime Minister of Australia, acting for the Governor-General of Australia, acting for the Queen.

The NES quickly grated back into gear with a.........

  10. 'If you need a hair cut, get real, people's lives are at stake'

Victoria’s health minister says just because the federal government has decreed some services can remain open, doesn’t mean that people should go out to use them.

Yes the "wartime cabinet" (why does it not include the leader of the federal opposition?) Makes some pronouncements but who holds the purse strings? The federal treasury. If you don't believe this, I have a nice bridge you may like cheap...

There are some good, concise media messages that I have seen on FB -just not from Australia.

This is not a wartime cabinet, it is a cabinet which allows a common decision to be made by the Commonwealth, the States and the Territories.

Once that decision is agreed on, each State and Territory enacts any necessary action in their State.

We covered that about three weeks ago.

  11. The flight complied with all self isolation guidelines. If you can go and get a haircut, then there should be no problem driving alone to and isolated paddock with a shed, where you takeoff alone, land and return home , alone, all without any interaction with anyone else.

I explained the psychological reasons for allowing hairuts.

Anyone who wants to contaminate themselves or anyone else doesn't have to read this.

Even if open recreational activities were legal, if you are infected and from your example, had an accident on the way over or back, you could contaminate the people you might be helping or the emergency workers or vice versa if they were contaminating.

If contaminated people have been pressing the button or using the wash basin at your local airfield, then even though there's no one there you can pick up the virus for several hours after they leave, and then spread it to your own family.

The health people and the Premiers aren't looking for your interpretation of whats fair, they are dealing with a population of all sorts of people from health professionals to grumpy old men, and they are hitting us with blanket bans that in ordinary circumstances would have waited for definitions and public comments. They don't have the time to do that, so the confused will be some of the victims. That's what happens in a crisis.

  12. Morrison is going slowly imho to try to reduce the impact on the economy. To stay out or recession Rudd gave us all $900.00 in 2008. That put the books into deficit which has stayed with us since. The forecast surplus may have materialised but it won't now. NZ went into recession in 2008 came out of it stronger & has had a surplus for a number of years till now. The fact that we haven't had a recession since 1991 may have had Politicians pumping up their chests but it hasn't helped our economy much.

If you listen directly to his press conferences (as against spun news media), you will notice the National Cabinet, which as we saw numbers 6/7 with a Labor majority has decided on two policies to manage 1. Health to minimise deaths and shorten the virus cycle), and 2. The economy to keep essential businesses afloat now, and have massive funding to regenerate all business and recreat work for all workers to come out of it with as little damage and possible.

We're no longer working on peacetime budget management. To meet what the National Cabinet wants, and don't forget that's both Nation AND States/Territories, already the Commonwealth Government has taken us from a surplus to a $200 billion deficit, and is heading sharply down shovelling out money when money is needed.

  13. With policies such as maintaining that hair cutting is a national imperative it is tempting to believe that the Morrison govt wants to see continued spread of coronavirus among the people. Just Cuts CEO has labelled the policy as "just nuts" arguing that it is impossible for hairdressers to work while maintaining the minimum distance rules that Morrison claims are essential. Can someone please explain how this makes sense.

Another stupidity is to allow personal fitness training sessions with up to 10 people. Am I going nuts or is Morrison an Australian Trump clone?

The hairdressers and personal fitness training are psychological actions to try to minimise suicides. Don't think the AHPPC (Australian Health Protection Principal Committee) are a bunch of politcians, they are health professionals at the top of the tree. Same goes for the States' Chief Medical Officers and their teams.

They have figures we don't and they have people analysing the data all the time.

And yes, Australia did adopt a deliberate policy of allowing the virus to spread while the number of cases were in single and double digits, because minute few numbers were dying, and they had to find places to put beds (which has included ripping out existing hospitals in Victoria and SA), and eventually get food and medicatio0n to us when we are fully locked down. At the end of that equation, when the death rate is much higher, a smaller percentage of the population will be dying, so it's all a matter of mathematics which no one has time to explain yet.

  14. I do understand the great damage being done to the economy, My super has lost over 40k but I expect it will bounce back eventually and in any case the money would be irrelevant if I was not here to enjoy it or having to live permanent lung damage.

That's a very important point Octave, in addition, don't look at the tens of thousands of paper money you have "lost", look at the percentage, and that will stop the heart flutter.

Before the crisis the indices represented X dollars per unit.

Now they represent X -about 30% - you still have the same number of units, but they are worth 30% less.

During the GFC I had friends who sold over a quarter of a million of their Super "Because if we don't it could be worth nothing in a few weeks"

So they sold their units for around $270,000.00

Now fast forward to the end of the GFC where the indices regained that 30% and sellers pushed them 10% above the starting point.

    (a) I still had all my units, so I not only retained my original super $ value, but my units gave me a 10% increase in balance at the end of the GFC.

    (b) My friends had sold their units when the indexes were 30% down, and parked the money in their bank.

At the end of the GFC their devalued indexes only bought them part of teir original balance because they had to pay round 40% more for the same amount of units.

This is not financial advice, but illustrates what Octave is saying.

At the current stage of the Coronavirus stage the indices are around 30% down, and may go down further, but when workers get out and about, and governments pour money into job schemes and businesses, and they start to get an income again, the indices will reflect that.

  15. As from midnight last night NZ is in total lockdown. Auckland motorway is normally bumper to bumper & this morning completely deserted. All liquor stores are closed. Supermarkets are open & they sell beer & wine Corner stores called Dairies are open but only 1 customer allowed in at a time. You are allowed to walk around the block or in the park for exercise but must keep a strict 2 metres away from anyone else. There were 4 levels & on Monday they were only at level 2. It went to 3 on Wednesday & the top level 4 last night. This will be in force for a month. They have 205 cases, no new ones in the past 24 hours & no deaths. The attitude seems to be fu#! the economy just do it & move on. We need to get to this point here too. We are acting far too slowly & cases are doubling every 4 days.

The only reason we are acting slowly is that Australia doesn't have the ability to provide food for every family every fortnight - yet, but is almost there. Similarly our Medical panel has taken the calculated risk until sterile supplies of medical prescriptions etc can be set up.

Allso there are different compliance demographics, although NZ is reasonably similar to Australia. If we didn't have NSW and Victoria, Australia could have gone as hard as NZ.

Both look like they've adopted the South Korean case tracking system - a bit like aiming a fire extinguisher at the seat of the flames.

An Australian Investment banker said yesterday Australia had gone from having a budget surplus, to about a $200 billion deficit, but for people not to worry, governments spending money doesn't matter right now, that can be corrected after the crisis.

It's going to be interesting to see how NZ and Australia go, with each probably learning from the other, and whether the total UK lockdown can bring them from behind to eventually pass us.

On the last graph I saw we were resonably close to the top in the world, near South Korea for cases.

  16. First I’ve heard of private flying being affected. Re the spread of the China flu - What’s the difference between me driving my car or me aeroplane ?

Your car should have been sitting in your driveway for about a week, except to go out to the essential services approved by the National Cabinet (which I listed here), such as to get food at supermarkets, take children to school, get takeaway food from restaurants, get your hair cut - the list will be on your State Government sites now, but NSW and Victoria are about to go into total lockdown because of the number of cases.

The messages have been clear when you listen to the direct announcements by the Prime Minister and Chief medical Officer, and the State Premiers and Chief Ministers at their press conferences, but what's coming out in the press starts to get watered down, causing some people to be confused.

The Prime Ministers advice was "If you aren't sure something was allowed, don't do it because you stand the chance of picking up an infection or giving it to someone else"

This confusion will be solved in Victoria and NSW when they go into total lockdown in the next day or so. What was suggested about a week ago was that food packs would be delivered to your door house by house. The RAAF was mobilised, I think Tuesday to move cargo around, so maybe they will deliver to country towns, nothing's been announced yet, but watch for press conference by Daniel Andrews of Gladys Berejiklian. The other States might have a brief relief for a few days, but Stage 2 doesn't let you drive around the place for recreation, like having a bit of a fly.

  17. Betoota Advocate is blaming all the people who went to Bondi Beach on Friday for the total lockdown.

If you squint, that accusation makes sense. Arrogant entitled rich people with nothing to do heading down to congregate because they couldn't go to the beach normally. On a normal day work commitments got in the way.

Mix in all the coffee machine drivers and beer pullers that also found themselves idle and you have a recipie for main stream media gold. Unfortunately, the rest of us are under the same martial law

We're not yet in total lockdown, but Stage 2 was directly caused by Bondi and a party where, from memory 28 out of 30 contracted the virus, probably from pressing the same toilet button.

NSW and Victoria are about to go to Stage 3, Total lockdown to your house, not from any discord with the Commonwealth, but because of their spiralling numbers. This allows NT and the small jurisdictions to continue working, becaise its pretty easy to control double digit figures in a small population.

  18. The answer to that, I believe (the National Cabinet decision was weeks ago), was that domestic flying was legal to March 31, when it ceases.

Private flyers should be aware that your enemies, the suburban sprawlers will be the fiorst to notice the obvious private flyers from the noise and will be racing for their phones. Don't worry about CASA, the Loackdown fines are about $20,000.00

Normally in the Moorabbin Training area I see hundreds of aircraft a day. The day before yesterday there was one Cherokee, yesterday one R22, so pretty close to 100% compliance.

  19. They grey nomads who don't believe in watch the news or "faceache" etc are out there cruising. South Australia closed its borders this week, and while the low volume crossing at Pinaroo was manned by police, the main highway between Melbourne and Adelaide, where the actual border is about 15 km east of Bordertown a constant stream of caravanners were being checked at the service station in the town, so time to have a cup of coffee, shoot the breeze with the locals, then check in, with the same situation on the Princes Highway in Mount Gambier.

  20. Well I just looked as I'm going to bed, it took 3 months to get to 200,000 cases and 10,000 deaths, it's taken just a further 6 days to double that, 400,000 and 20,000 deaths.

Anyone still think this isn't serious?

About 30% of Australians who never got beyond Year 4 in school.

In the next suburb to us, the very active FB group has decided that since all non-essential travel is banned, (like hang, ing out at the beach and continuing to go to the pub, but standing together because it is so yesterday to sit so far apart now that 75% of the chairs and tables have been removed, and with the Premier, with solemn face threatening to go to the Final Solution with Total Lockdown). They will hold Driveway get togethers where someone will supply the booze "and we can all keep our distance".
