  1. .......train to become electricians and carry out emergency repairs to Retirement Homes.

Somewhat breathlessly Turbo appeared in the foyer and announced that effective immediately, he had appointed Planey to the position of CEO of Turbine Industries in order to keep encabulator production going at top speed, while he, Turbo focused on TurbineFood, a new enterprise based on rabbits.

It was really quite simple, the cat farms, which had been supplying thousands of tonnes of produce to Chinese Restaurants for years would be extended to breed rabbits, since they had the required Biosecurity (wire netting) approvals.

Residents trapped at home by the Coronavirus lock downs would soon be able to grow their own meat with the TurboPack, a pair of rabbits, which would be delivered to homes. In conjunction with Loxie, Turbo had arranged for the State Fire Services to deliver them, since they were classified as emergency transport.

In each box is a TurboLearning home school booklet; this may shortly be delivered separately due to the rabbits soiling the pages, but Chapter 1 teaches the children how to care of their rabbits. One pair of rabbits breeds 4 to 12 kittens a month, so you can start harvesting in 30 days, the amount depending on the size of your family, i.e. if you keep 2 pairs you'll have 8 to 24 kittens the next months and so on.

The TurboLearning book shows the children how to wring a rabbit's neck, skin and gut it, and prepare a delicous baked rabbit pie or another thousand or so recipes (if you've lived on a farm you'll see the humour in that).

The only tricky part is the gutting, where Turbo has recommended the Centrigual Swinging method.

Using this method you can skin and gut a rabbit without getting any blood on your hands. You simply make a slit up the stomach skin, grasp the rabbit by the front and rear paws and quickly swing your body around. The guts depart from the force. The two tricky parts are to make sure the arc is on the downwind side and don't stop swinging or you'll have a string of guts around your neck.

The Captain was intrigued by this as his family had always employed servants. "How........."

  2. We went from 20,000 tests to around 193,000 over the weekend, so the government seems to be following South Korea's strategy.

Still people on this site ignoring the essential services travel only. Victorian Premier said yesterday if people don't stop breaking the advisories we will go into the next and much more severe stage of lockdown.

  3. No doubt here will be a plethora of uintended consequences, but are some intended? Nev

Now is not the time for playing politics.

As it happens, I have the numbers because I'm working onsomething else.

    National Cabinet

    Prime Minister: LNP

    Qld Premier: Labor

    NSW Premier: LNP

    Victorian Premier: Labor

    Tasmanian Premier: LNP

    South Australian Premier: LNP

    Western Australian Premier: Labor

    ACT Chief Minister: Labor

    NT Chief Minister: Labor

    Labor - 5

    LNP - 4

It's working well because there's a good bipartisan balance.

There's not much chance of any Right Wing agendas coming out of that, or Left.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Paul Kelly has announced they are expecting a best case of 50,000 deaths and worst case of 150,000 deaths

In two or three weeks time when the parents and grandparents start to go, the mood of the Australian people will be such that I wouldn't want to be any Australian politician who strays from the path of doing everything he/she can to save lives, support people out of work, and bring the financial recovery as forward as fast as possible.

  4. I hope this and a host of other deadlines will be extended to allow the community to cope with this emergency. Home loan repayments will surely have to be included. There is a movement to ban foreclosures and evictions.

I can't remember exactly what was said, but about a week ago Banks agreed to allow mortgage repayments to be moved out to when the crisis is over, so that takes a huge weight of many families. The load period is just extended at the end by the number of months.

Many other forms of assistance to people who've lost their jobs (and tens of thousands just lost theirs a few minutes ago because they will no longer be allowed to drive to work).

The announcements by the National Cabinet have been clear cut, but released day by day, so you have to go to the Commonwealth and State government websites and follow the links for your particular profession. Within your own community you may have to help a lot of people understand that they will not be out on the street.

  5. .........time Salty, loaded with liquor, took part in a gay Mardi Gras procession, He would have been OK, but his wife's cousin was taking video of the procession, and Mrs Brine gasped and dropped her sherry, wrecking her beehive hairdo, when Salty swayed past in a pair of jocks leering at the crowd and impersonating the early hip movements of Elvis.

    She passed out, and........

  6. Note - at the moment that will mean that recreational flying businesses where social distancing cannot be maintained in an activity will not be able to continue those activities where social distancing cannot be maintained.

They have not been ordered to close but practically they will find it impossible to operate flight training.

Rec Flying as a business activity of renting out aircraft could continue as you could manage social distancing and of course private flying is not a business and so can continue.

On the area of BFR it will be interesting and necessary to see what RAAus come out with as the BFR requirements are in the Ops Manual and not the CASA CAOs/CARs.

It will reuqire both RAAus and CASA to act as RAAus cannot unilaterally exempt/exclude/modify part of the Ops Manual without invalidating the entire Ops Manual - its a CASA approved doc.

Not a great deal of help but:

    - Group A&B - single seat flyers can do an observed BFR that will allow continues compliant flying

    - Group A&B - two seaters without full dual controls do an observed BFR that will allow continues compliant flying

    - Group A&B - two seaters with full dual controls BUT with which the examiner is unfamiliar can do an observed BFR that will allow continues compliant flying

    - Group C - if you have a combined controls aircraft group you remain exempt from any and all BFR requirements due to issues with the Ops Manual so you can continue flying whever combined control aircraft you have eg flying fleas and Ptyradactyl

    - Group D - afraid you need to look that one up - I do not hold it so am unfamiliar with the requirements

I think your information ceases in 22 minutes time.

The States are putting up websites to end any confusion right now.

  7. I am seeking specific information on the requirement to have current BFR given extraordinary circumstances prevailing.

I hope they extend it on for you and any others; and that may need to be six months, or a revue of Government requirements at some time in the future.

It's a bit academic though, since all Recreational flying ceases from midday today based on last night's, and this morning's National Cabinet and State Governmenty decisions.

  8. You should be checking the Federal and State Chief Medical Officer sites and the announcements by the State Premiers; they are the ones who are setting the rules. A 500 member Police Task Force was set up in Victoria this morning to go after those who are breaching the safety guidelines.

Recreational Flying is not an essential industry.

The Prime Minister announced last night that these essential businesses will remain open:

    Supermarkets

    Banks

    Pharmacies

    Petrol Stations

    Convenience Stores

    Freight and Delivery Services

Childcare, but more information to be provided today

    Shopping Centres

    Bottle Shops

    Hairdressing salons

    Beauty Salons

The Victorian and New South Wales Premiers both provided clarifications this morning for these two states and their live statements are on the Channel 9 App.

  9. ..........double jointing." and then he noticed Captain was missing. It was important for all NES members to get around Brine and rescue him, and support him. Brine was a Vietnam War veteran who had won the purple heart in a battle where his platoon of 12 had been ambushed by over a hundred Viet Cong. Brine had told his men to take cover, and had single-handedly wiped them all out without even stopping for a glass of water.

The Captain had reached a 200 metre line at the virus checking statement, and in his authoritative voice was moving forward saying "Excuse Me", "Coming Through" and "Make Way". When he got to the front of the queue there was a pretty nurse standing there. "The back of the queue is that way!" she pointed. "Don't you know who I AM?" roared the Captain in that raspy Colonel Blimp impersonation. "No" she said "get to the back of the queue and sprayed him with green money dye donated by the local Bank for just such people. The Captain ........

[Turbo became aware late last night that a shipment of 500 tonnes of green dye had arrived in Australia last night, to be sprayed on naughty Bondi Bums, people who were caught walking in the streets, and nasty people who jumped queues, so be careful what you say to shop assistants out there or they'll pounce and make it easy for the Green Police Squad in each State (as announced by the Prime Minister last night) to lock you up until the crisis ends.

  10. News just in: A British family of 6 just landed in Beijing, 4 of them are infected, and now of course they have to find everybody, not just who was on the plane, but all the other people who were in the airport - and flown all over China since. Then there's the taxis, trains and buses people caught, sigh. Hopefully not many on the plane were infected, but it's without doubt some were.

In fact, all the recent weeks cases have mostly been people returning to China, or Chinese escaping other Countries for the safety of home ... oh the irony.

And the few Australian Squealers trapped in places like Ecuador, who flew out after all the initial warnings and now want DFAT to send an aircraft to get them.

Also the single party in Sydney that produced 30 infections.

  11. How about constant information educating the people who then know the reasons why they should follow the proper paths. One News TV station was devoted to this 24 hours a day, constant hourly message information streams on your mobile phone and most Chinese will watch/read it, not the footy ...

The Commonwealth Government has started pumping that out; got a good email tonight from them.

However, it's nowhere near the saturation it should be.

Bondi, now forever crowned FW centre of the Year after the story went round the world has done more to jolt people into serious thought than anything else so far.

We're up near South Korea in Testing rate though, and that gives accurate geographic locations of clusters which has worked well for South Korea.

  12. .........was promptly arrested, slung into the van, with the usual "Clang!!!" as his head hit the front wall, taken down to the Station, and lockedc up.

"What are you goung to do to me?" he asked Constable Doubtfire.

She just leered, and said "You wouldn't......"

  13. The National Cabinet Meeting has concluded and the Prime Minister has advised the unanimous decisions of the Commonwealth, States and Territories. He was followed by the Chief Medical Officer.

A lot of people are not goint to be able to travel to work after mid day tomorrow, cafes become takeaway only, and about twenty minutes of other decisions.

I would recommend everyone look at the Channel 9 App because these are major changes to our way of life starting tomorrow, and probably not ending for six months.

  14. I understand why the authorities want to curtail unneccesary movement of people, but we should be allowed to go for a local flight and return to the same location.

The problem comes if you have the virus and happen to meet somone at the airfield or vice versa, and also any Service Station, or cafe along the way.

The lockdown information should be available early tomorrow morning; it's State based so might vary from State to State.

  15. Now, the Gold Coast was full of travelling Chinese at that time (and before), and we're now wondering if - 1. She really did have the COVID-19 virus? - and 2. If there were others enduring this virus on the Gold Coast at the same time, but it wasn't reported, or identified as such? The first 4 cases of COVID-19 in Australia were properly identified on Jan 25th.

For most of us identifying that we have a problem will be the biggest problem of all to overcome.

The symptoms are almost identical to the usual flu.

As of this morning the procedure when you had those symptoms was to phone your Doctor (not visit the clinic) and he/she would interview you and make a decision of (a) whether you had been in contact with someone who tested positive and (b) whether you had the symptoms and it both bxoes were ticked you would be referred to the nearest testing facility (100 through Melbourne alone, so quite close), and you would then self isolate and get the results a few days later.

That may change by tomorrow morning because the virus is now being transmitted within the community, we are entering progressive State and Cluster lock down zones and, according to the Victorian Chief Medical Officer, Brett Sutton, Australia received a big shipment of test kits Friday night from overseas. He also said to date 20,000 people in Australia have been tested and that's right up there with South Korea which has used test results to identify and knock down clusters and is doing very well, so there is a good chance of Australia getting a better than average result.

  16. I had persuaded Mrs PM to come to Oshkosh on her condition that we flew Business Class. The cost was a Very Big Number. I truly believe that I can kiss it goodbye. Qantas are not talking to anyone about their cancellations as far off as July and are not talking refunds. I suspect that they will be in the hands of an administrator before then. I will be standing in line behind their bankers. And not to mention the FF points I have not cashed in for years. Same thing happened when Ansett went broke and I lost 200,000 points. And Compass went broke and I lost three pre-booked return tickets to Sydney. Time flies, money flies, blowflies and butterflies.

Have a look at your biking documents for a booking email number or link. (You mentioned you couldn’t find a contact a few days ago).

My daughter was able to get a credit for a deferred flight in about 5 minutes from Jetstar in a few months. Australia is going to need airlines when the lockdown ends and the airlines are likely to be contracted or refinanced.

  17. There's already a dozen new cases in Sydney directly linked to those cruise ship passengers.

    Meanwhile at Bondi Beach ..

They had to be removed by Police.

The State Minister came down to Bondi and read the riot act yesterday, suggesting the Mayor hadn't done her job.

He was followed by a Police Commissioner who subtly alluded to the difficulty of handling 25,000 alcohol fueled resistors on a beach.

She was followed by the Mayor who immediately closed Bondi and two other beaches.

This morning a few hundred pushed the closure signs aside and went down onto the beach. They were removed.

The good news is that incident shamed enough people that the blatant mass activities just about dried up, but we started going into lockdown this afternoon and if you download the Channel 9 news app, you should see the Prime Minister announce what is closing down either around midnight or early tomorrow morning. I've found those National Cabinet press conferences are better than the newspapers because the journalists haven't had time to spin the stories.

  18. The National Cabinet and National and State Medical Officers have been pounding it, but local government, which interfaces with the public has dropped the ball with a few exceptions

The young people particularly have not realised the danger after having been told they will only get a mild version; they haven't been aware they if they contract the virus they can kill their parents or grandparents.

  19. South Australia locked its borders this afternoon, Victoria and NSW have committed to lock downs this afternoon. The National Cabinet is meeting tonight, and almost certainly that will result in a match up for other States and Territories. Look at the warnings State by State, they can be changing hourly. Recreational Flying is non essential and the penalties are huge, with good reason; 50,000 to 150,000 Australians are predicted to die over the next few months.

  20. ...couldn’t seize any of the items in case they’d been contaminated. It was then he felt a tickle in his throat. His nose began to run. He raced for his Doctor’s surgery but there was a sign on the door. “We TOLD everyone not to come here, PHONE! He reached for his phone. Oh No he’d left it at home. Constable Doubtfire nudged the patrol car round the corner and he had to run down an alley and take the long way home. The Doctor said he sounded positive, and he should go to the nearest Testing Centre which was past the Supermarket. Two days later the test came back positive.”Oh..........”

  21. But given you paid for it before this happened - and therefore wasn't in the equation - they can't really say "NO" to you.

Jetstar are giving credits to fly at a later time when you cancel.

The airlines are destaffing, Darwin was locked down yesterday, States and Territories will start to lock down cluster areas any time now.

  22. Thruster 88. sorry I don't agree with your comparison. A Private Pilot NEVER has to be subjected to the pressures a pilot in the Industry MAY be placed under. It's a totally different environment and in many aspects there are no direct comparisons with trucking operations in Australia. Nev

In view of a later smart alec comment the discussion, which several people appear unable to comprend, related to the pressure applied to CHARTER Pilots, COMMERCIAL Pilots, not Private Pilots.

There's no relationship between Private Pilots and truck drivers and we never said there was.
