    But first the manufacturer needs to provide a volume of 'in use' engines in Australia, lets say 10 x 912ULS equivalents. One here and one there is going to take a very long time to build a reputation. I would have expected the manufacturer, not distributor, would have born a lot of this cost. For $4K more I would buy a Rotax.

    If you search the CASA site for the RPC to RPL conversion form one of the documents required is an ASIC.

    I am 68 and currently flying with a Dynon EFIS. I find it faster to pull info from than a six pack. It is more what you have the hours on as to which is more usable to you. This plane has a backup EFIS with its own ADAHRS which I understand is more of a failure point than the EFIS itself. The PFD also has a backup battery. Its pretty common to have a backup instrument and even a backup battery with a VFR EFIS setup ie Garmin G3X Touch with G5 and battery.

    Even if the pilot and plane had been IFR rated with a freezing level of 4500 was it a good idea to be in cloud above this ? Too many judgement errors.

    $529 per month if you own it. Just confirm rates, rental and anything else is included. Anything else is probably a requirement for you to insure your plane and possibly a share of the hanger insurance.

    We are still back to how did his instructor recommend him for cross country endorsement and how did RAAus approve him with minimal training and no prior cross country experience. Yes, this was poor decision making from the pilot. We also have a systematic failure. At least I hope it is a systematic failure as the alternative is far worse.

    We could argue all day about whether his experience was relevant for a RPC. The real question is why he was granted a cross country endorsement ? A lot of x-country training is about information gathering; airfield info, route terrain/airspace and weather. And then exercising good judgement. Then putting this into action with several flights to confirm the theory is put into practise. I would not like to be RAAus or the instructors estate.

    RAAus have been wanting the ATSB to step up (some would say do its job) for some time.     Lots of f/ups all round. RAAus Flight Instructor Can the pilot take some blame for pushing for his condensed training ? And poor trip planning ? A bit disappointing for his partner to sue when she appears to have known his training was not up to scratch but took no action prior to his death. Please do not tell me how hard it was/is on her. These sort of f/ups create more regulations and costs for all of us.

    While the Evektor Sportstar can climb at a reasonable rate (1 - 1,200 ft/min). It has european raidators and on a hot summer day you will probably need to pace the climb. Same issue with the Harmony.

    Most EFISs do too. How accurate the flow sensor is is another story.

    We use 16 li/hr for a 912IS. I have heard 16-20 li/hr for 912ULS. Thinking it is not quite a good at cruise as an IS but needs to be confirmed.

    If you have 65 litres, lets say 63 litres usable. 912ULS comsumption of 18 litres per hour at 100 knots. Distance 262 nautical miles, lets add 10 nm each end for manouvering, say 282 nm trip. Time with zero winds would be 2 hours 49 minutes. 51 litres would be used plus 30 minutes margin (9 litres) so 60 litres total. No allowance for headwinds which you would need to monitor. You need to confirm that your tank actually holds 65 litres. Also confirm your fuel consumption of 18li/hr. You may already have (just) enough although I would probably do some research on alternate fields 30 minutes before your destination (both ways).

    As a factory built aircraft would the factory approve an increase in the size of the single tank ? Possibly they would approve the wing tanks if you fitted the later model wings but now the cost is getting right up there. Looks like you can carry fuel in portable tanks/cans as long as it is non-commercial and no passengers. Not suggesting this is a good idea. Anybody care to comment.

    Is that fuel capacity right ? I thought all models (Sportstar, SS Plus, SS Max) of Sportstar had 115 litres. Sorry, not keeping up; early model (2004) with single tank
