  1. I bought MS Flight Sim before I started lessons. It was ok but I do not feel it helped much. Probably depends on your learning style. If you can try to do 2 lessons a week. May be a problem if you can only fly on the weekends as this is when others want to fly. After work mid week is an option too but you probably need to wait for summer. Expect to have to fly 50% more hours than the 25 year olds to absorb the knowledge. You need at least 1 lesson a fortnight. Less than this and you will forget and have to relearn each time. You will probably lose a third of your lesson slots due to weather.
  2. I started learning to fly in 2023 at 66. I learnt with Fly Illawarra at ShellHarbour. I have heard good things about Learn2Fly at Canberra but pricing seems to be a little higher. It might be better to learn at an non-controlled aerodrome with lighter traffic to get your RPC and cross country then perhaps move to Canberra for your RPL and controlled airspace etc.
  3. I agree it would be desirable for for fees to be included (and up to date) in the ERSA but it still has not been established that they are required to be. What are the info requirements ? Legally almost certainly publishing them on a council website covers them from a Fair Trading viewpoint. This discussion has gone around in circles without establishing what is required.
  4. Okay. For Shellharbour (YSHL) it says; "REMARKS 1. AD Charges: All ACFT" It lists the website (www.shellharbourairport.com.au) but does not explicitly say prices are on the website. The Fair Trading website complaints page is https://www.nsw.gov.au/departments-and-agencies/fair-trading/complaints-and-enquiries?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23435143831&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwbve_I2LlQMVdWQPAh2LozhGEAAYASABEgJ6tPD_BwE My best guess is that NSW Fair Trading will say this is adequate although not optimum but feel free to formally complain so we can confirm this (or not).
  5. My understanding is that while there are a lot of things that can be published in ERSA the required information is significantly less. Perhaps AirServices can provide a required info document. Under consumer law if the owner of an airport publishes the fees on their website, as many councils do, they would be covered. ie the info needs to be available, but not easily available.

  7. Unless you have not flown for a few years I would say 15 hours is a little excessive. Navigation should convert straight over without training but perhaps an exercise in the review. I think I would be looking for a new instructor.
  8. The problem of course is that worksite cameras have been misused to take disciplinary action against many workers, often to avoid paying out termination payments. So you have a biased pilot union fighting a very cost based management. The suicide theory appears to imply that Indian pilots do not feel a moral obligation to protect passengers in their charge and seek to harm the company. I believe this is the opposite of how most western pilots think/feel. Is this what you are implying ?
  9. He is a bit behind, in WA now. Thought he was going to be pushing it travelling every 2-3 days and trying to put out videos while doing the tourist thing with the family.
  10. You can also walk across the highway to Oporto.
  11. This is one of the things the the Technical Review group recommended be changed. Maybe it happens, maybe not. If it does happen I expect lots of conditions.
  12. I love the mental health declarations/drugs declarations on anything. Does anybody with a problem (obviously not me or you) ever answer these honestly ?
  13. On motorcycles heat transfer or rather lack of heat transfer away from the reg/rec is considered more of a problem. It is often recommended to mount the reg/rec directly to a metal frame member and put heat transfer paste between them.
  14. Nope. I have a class 5. It is pretty much the same as RAAus declaration just CASA want you to have a ARN and record your declaration in their system. And take $10. While this could always go up I do not believe it is in their interest to raise it too high. Will be interesting to see if they loosen the things you can do after the review. Class 4 will also be interesting. Anybody have any details on requirements/activities you can perform on this medical ?
  15. Motorcycle reg/recs are usually mounted under the seat and inside the side covers directly behind the engine, not too dissimilar to the Rotax engine bay environment. While motorcycles do not sit continuously at 5000 rpm they do regularly go to 9000 rpm. Many motorcycle forums for the last 15-20 years have been recommending replacement with a Mosfet reg/rec.
  16. All correct. Unfortunately OEM or 'good brand name' cannot be relied on either.
  17. Que ? Possible 4 seater is for RPL with class 5 medical.
  18. Agreed. But if you have a 4 seater then being able to take friends on a short joy ride would be useful.
  19. Will there be any difference in pricing between the MPC builder and non-builder course ? I believe the non-builder course will be 2 days longer.
  20. That happened in May. Ops Manual still not approved and RAAus are saying Q3 of this year (earlier they said 2025).
  21. Thats a long way from Cue.
  22. I would guess that CASA are not keen for a lot of the things on this list. However if CASA want people to believe that they are listening then they need to give pilots something. I am hoping for the increase to 3 passengers to actually happen.
  23. Question on aircraft insurance; is your premium any higher with a class 5 medical ?
  24. When I joined RAAus 3 years ago membership was just over 10,000, now it is 9,400.
