  1. Another way of looking at this is to suggest that RAAus knew the activity they were managing was dangerous and did not take adequate actions to minimise the risk. These things need to be worded very carefully to ensure you do not increase (rather than reduce) the legal risk to the organisation.
  2. Or, more likely, somebody in RAAus management thinks this will minimise legal action so they do it. If somebody dies this is not going to stop their family from sueing RAAus. It may reduce the payout but the legal costs will still be extensive. Best you can hope for is it may scare off frivilous legal actions.
  3. Not a big deal, seen this before. These documents do not give the legal protection that some organisations think they do.
  4. A lot of LSAs have a COG a little aft of ideal. Would it not be a good idea to have a (firewall forward mounted) heavier AGM battery ? Yes, Rotaxes only need the battery to start and do not require one to run.
  5. Richmond does not fit, it is military only. Why ? And why does Holsworthy still have its restricted airspace ? So lets bring in more restricted airspace for Western Sydney and massively penalise GA with no reductions in existing restricted airspace. Hopefully the CLL 1500 that has been proposed is reviewed by someone in power with half a brain.
  6. Reading between the lines it appears the missing radar pages are not deliberate just a stuff up. The issue is that they are receiving a huge amount of feedback about site problems as well as an even bigger amount of feedback from people who dislike the new website. Lack of testing was definitely an issue here. There is also the political problem of being in the middle of changing CEOs and both the outgoing and incoming CEOs may chose to 'make a statement'. Do not expect this c/f to go away any time soon.
  7. I have no inside knowledge but I have worked in IT for many years. My best guess it this joke was created by a private company because the internal IT was understaffed and underfunded. IT would have said we need to spec it really tightly because of the huge mass of data and user types and this will take a while. CEO says not good enough private company you spec it then build it. What could possibly go wrong ? Not even the 20th time I have seen this.
  8. Well that is a stuff up. Seems like they did not bother with asking how people were using their website or doing adequate testing of the hundreds of changes they made. Very pretty tho. Still trying to find the radar pages. Found the links but all the NSW radar pages are missing and it goes to a generic 'Weather map' page. Zooming in gives an almost useless display. Not happy BOM
  9. Carbs are a risk point. Because they have been around for 100 years they are viewed as low risk. They are not low risk and there is no backup for them. The likelhood of the risk occurring is small but it is still a significant risk. This risk has been accepted for a long time causing some to believe this risk is small. This is what I mean by "whether both engines are being intelligently assessed". The risk points in the 912ULS and 912IS are very different. Some have suggested that severity of risk and likelyhood of the risk occurring are less in a 912is.
  10. Injected engines are not new. Turbo charged engines are not new. I cannot recall any motorcycle you could buy in the last 30 years without injection and no car in the last 40 years. Yes there are more moving parts but most kinks were worked out years ago. Injection is a very good solution to the mixture problem. Engines should give better economy, better power and last longer with injection. 912is are a very nice engine with similar performance to a ULS but better cruise economy. Yes these engines have diferrent failure risks but I wonder when I hear 'carbs are reliable' whether both engines are being intelligently assessed. Turbo chargers carry their own potential issues which is probably why these engines come with many performance and warning sensors. Modern efiss like the Garmin G3X Touch give useful messages to hopefully prempt any issues. But how else do you get a decent performance package in a light weight engine ? Sorry Jabiru dont do it for me, at any cost.
  11. Bristell are already using Rotax 915 and 916 in one of their 2 seaters. And people are buying them.
  12. Not any more. Ashtrays are politically incorrect, but you get an extra cup holder.
  13. More like AU$1.2 mil for Cessna 172 and AU$900k for P2010 NEW
  14. The Sling 4 TSI and Sling High Wing are both '4 seaters' with a higher useable load than a Cessna 172, altho none of the three are true 4 seaters. Pilots are looking at all 3 planes for similar useage. Most non-commercial customers are looking beyond certified and saying what do I get for my money, how does it perform and how long will it last. The only thing we do not know about Sling is endurance as the company has only been running since 2008. Sling is where Mosaic is going.
  15. Sling does not appear to have an involvement in this round the world trip. Look at the numbers, their performance is good across a range of parameters, nobody is saying they are exceptional. Marketing hype; no better or worse than every other plane manufacturer. Not as over the top as Textron tho.
  16. Skip, You missed the WA marketing tour write up - https://www.facebook.com/GlobalAviationProducts/
  17. Yes a Sling 4 TSI with a Rotax 915 is being flown around the world. Is this not a good thing ? It is more a promotion for Crones disease than Sling. You probably need to look at all the places Sling have demonstrated their aircraft; good in hot environments, good at attitude (turbo charged), very good economy and range at good speed, good neutral handling, good on grass strips etc etc. Not exceptional but very good in many areas. And looking at the numbers when you compare a 915 or 916 powered Sling 4 TSI against a Cessna 172 the performance winner (by any measure or in any area) is not the Cessna.
  18. No immediate obstructions, slightly rising terrain but you have the Escarpment 4-5 miles away. The gusts may not seem like much but they are really inconsistent with a westerly wind dropping down 2500 feet off the Escarpment. On 26 normally you would depart right crosswind and climb then circle back and head west.
  19. Shellharbours 26/08 runway is 4367 ft. It has a slight rise where it crosses the main 34/16 runway so you normally try to be off before this. The schools there avoid flying in westerly winds as it gets gusty and today it was westerly and gusty. The AD Closed notam has been extended to 1200 Sunday.

  22. Tumut originally Tumut north upgrade pic Tumut south upgrade pic Looks like they may be getting an AWIS and a different CTAF Current re-opening date is 21 November (but they have had a few delays previously).
  23. People like shiny things (and EFISs). If you can afford it, why not ?
  24. All the above have special certificates of airworthiness. Perhaps someone can explain the different types of SCA.
  25. Sling have 3 levels of build; kit build and quick build both considered amateur built. Factory built come complete from the factory but with the wings off in a container. As do Bristells. Slings can be customised with different engines, props, avionics, parachutes, paint jobs, upholsery etc but for factory builds all this work is done in the factory.
