  1. Yes, I agree they should have records to refer too.
  2. I told them I removed a mode c transponder once. 1.1 kg I think it was. Then I get a call asking for a new weight and balance. Transponder weighs 15 kg . Need a w&b if you change weight by more than 10 kg. I said it weighs 1.1 kg. Then got another call saying sorry we confused your transponder with a brs rocket system. Definitely didn't have a rocket in the panel.😁
  3. I am happy enough with raaus, even with its quirks. You only need to deal with the frustration at transfer time. No drama normally. Don't agree with that silly w&b request though. But as blue said, if your mate can do one for you it might save some headache. Have to wonder where the records from previous reg and build sign off are. They only have 3000 planes to look after.
  4. How bloody stupid can things get. Try ringing Michael Coates and see if he can help. It's an xair standard for christ sake. Your sitting on the c of g and it's all pre-made tubes and Dacron. The only thing you can really do is move the battery fore or aft, even that is not much change.
  5. will get onto this week. don't know anything about the serial numbers. mine are 537 and 892. dunno what the first one was. i am a serial xair buyer, each time i sell one i need another one. great fun and cheap to own.
  6. your xair may be a 450 kg , flyboy is saying the 490 has a thicker trailing edge. did you still need a poh. i can get office works to copy mine , its no problem.
  7. had the same and had to remove it and put the new lower limit on.
  8. great info, thanks. my first 2 xairs were 544 and the new one is 490, thats because the builders of the first 2 put 544 on the papaerwork. both those planes have been downgraded to 450 and 490 . i actually agree with raaus in a way, i don't think the builder of a kit should decide the mtow, it should come from the manufacturer.
  9. thanks for the photo. great idea. i have read your old posts about flying to cameron corner . what a fantastic trip .
  10. It's all changed. Flyboys is quoting out of date info. U have been through this 3 times now. 544 kg was the maximum a homebuilder could have in raaus. The factory says 490 is the maximum so raaus are dropping the mtow each time an xair gets transferred. The 450 is the British mtow. I don't know why they used that for some.
  11. Jared is the one who changed it. But he would have been directed from above
  12. screenshots for people that don't have Facebook

  13. How did you Increase your fuel capacity. I would love to do that. The 618 likes plenty of fuel.
  14. 2 of my xairs started as 544kg and were for years . Then when ownership transfer was applied for the 544 got cancelled. But to give me a 50 kg increase because I threatened to cancel my membership just shows what a flawed system it is.
  15. I want to carry a passenger and 450 doesn't allow that. But like you say. No one is going to check it anyway.
  16. That's exactly what they do. They tried to drop mine from 544 to 450. I said don't go any further with it and cancel my membership. Next minute I get a call offering to make it 490. Absolute rubbish. It's all because casa are looking at everything they do I think.
  17. I would not remove the fastback. It would be ugly with the fuel tanks and battery hanging out in the open. Also the luggage compartment would not be useable.
  18. Mine is 490. My first 2 were 544
  19. it will get signed off with no drama. A lot of them are registered as 544 and raaus have decided not to allow it any more.
  20. When is the maiden flight . climb at 50 knts And don't drop under 45 landing. Greatest fun you can have for the money. Extremely forgiving of learners like me. Rotates around 40 knts.
  21. There is a bloke on here but I forget his name. He made new batten ends with a 48 mm holesaw and Teflon sheet. That gives the correct radius. The factory ends are too small and pop out all the time. I do mine a different way. I give them a squirt of kiwi grip . No more trouble. I don't plan on removing them so it works for me.
  22. why not a flight suit. you can look like maverick when you exit the sonex
  23. Dreamliner also has powerful generators
