  1. Had a pleasant 90 minute flight yesterday. Very calm but low cloud base. Today was a different story. Wind was 9 knts almost straight down the runway, so I thought I would do a circuit or two, takeoff was fine got to 300 ft and the turbulence off the trees and buildings was throwing me all over the place, turned downwind and was doing 75 knts across the ground with half throttle. I started thinking how much fun RC models are. It was the roughest ride I have had so far. Got down safely, I was tempted to go around again but thought better of it. Just because it looks ok on the ground the wind can be a hell of a lot stronger a few hundred feet up.
  2. I don't think calling people dogs is helping. It's extremely insulting even though I don't think that's your intention
  3. I think a well maintained 2 stroke. As in clean fuel system and no air leaks. And not lugged is fine without egt gauge. Never had them on outboards and motorbikes.
  4. In your profile page
  5. I agree. I think the water temp gauge is more important.
  6. I think I will switch back to 98 from the servo. The avgas Bowser is too easy. Traralgon has a Mogas Bowser but we only have avgas at West sale. Not enough aircraft here to make it viable.
  7. I started getting a bit of rough running at 3000 rpm and I think this was the cause . I let these plugs run longer being iridium. Now I will pull them for a clean each 25 hr service and they should good.
  8. Pulled the plugs out of the 618 for an inspection today and got a fright. Plugs have a build up of a whitish colour material on them. Thought I was losing material off the pistons for a second. Then it dawned on me. Is this lead from avgas. I have run on avgas the last few tanks because I am too lazy to fill my Jerry cans. Checked the rave valves ,they slide smooth and easy. Next weekend I will remove the exhaust and have a look at the rings. Spark plugs are iridium and have done 43 hours. Look like new again after a quick brush. All 4 plugs were identical so I take it that's a good sign.
  9. These were working but the wiring kept falling off the back of the gauge. Thought I would crimp them a bit but the ends broke. Very old and brittle.
  10. I know what they are o/t. Just wondered if anyone had replaced the ends on them. I realise I will probably have to get new probes. And yes aircraft spruce are the place to get them. Only 15 minutes from my flat.
  11. My egt wiring has 2 broken connectors. These instruments work on millivolts so I think I have to buy new probes because it would be difficult to replace the ends. Am I right or wrong.
  12. I didn't say you don't make any good points. Actually I won't argue. Thanks anyway 😁
  13. It's really not that expensive. Even a rag and tube kit like my xair won't give you any change out of 50k with engine and instruments these days. And you still have to build it.
  14. Skips quest to have the last word makes these threads go on for ages.😁
  15. What's so strange . You said the spirit would become a hangar queen in your rant. I was answering you
  16. if you had one why wouldn't you fly it. most people want 2 seaters but more often than not the right seat is empty most of the time.
  17. maybe its the drag of the struts on high wings slows them compared to a low wing
  18. What a load of rubbish. Classic skip with a bee in his bonnet
  19. warning, i am deflecting the topic for a minute. last week i was looking at oz runways on my phone and 4 firebombers were on there flying around the alpine fires. then i switched to flight radar and none of them were on there. don't they use transponders.
  20. I am so glad I didn't say this.😁
  21. Just showed him flying a long eze on the news but they did say he owned several planes.
  22. Thanks for the advice on how to run my business. Yes that crane now has the most annoying alarm in the world. Commonsense is far more important than alarms. Switchs and prox sensors get damaged and out of adjustment all the time on hiabs. Never ever rely on them. You have to have your sequence that you follow every time you pack the crane up. That accident was driver error. When own 4 trucks you can only drive one yourself . Employees do not pay attention to the job like the owners. Better get back on topic.
