  1. In earlier times Engines were not capable of being feathered. and Most Twins would not maintain Height on one engine. It was just accepted that is the situation. Later it was Made a requirement by Airwothiness Bodies but Many are still Marginal when at Max Wt. for the conditions. You Must also attain and keep at or above the VMC(a) airspeed to maintain Control. or you will have to reduce Power on the good Motor till you do. You have to "Milk the Mouse" to fly a twin at Max Wt on one motor just after Lift off. Stall is Below Vmc(a) in all cases I am aware of. Naturally any twin that flies ok on one engine goes real good on 2 . Nev
  2. The one with the throttle between your Legs? They actually get along pretty smartly. First Jab I flew at Lethbridge. Owned by Gary Baume. Nev
  3. You have missed the point entirely . Disappointing since I've gone to a lot trouble to explain the circumstance where things happen and why. How about reading my posts fully. Powered Planes are there to carry things so by your Logic the Less you carry the More efficient it is . The object is to Move PAYload efficiently to be profitable. Nev
  4. Pure AL has a fairly good resistance to corrosion As the Oxide Protects from further corrosion. Look it up and also ALCLAD use. It does need looking after as does almost anything else. Bronze is pretty good( Copper-tin) and even pure Fe. made In a Puddling furnace and wrongly called Wrought iron these days. If you know what to look for you'll find it on old shipwrecks used on the chains and anchors. The metal appears layered because it is. It's folded and welded under the Hammer, many times.. Nev
  5. Good work. It's Not that easy on line. Nev
  6. There are Plenty of Metals more corrosive than aluminium, It has been the Main Metal used in aircraft construction since Planes were Made We are having corrosion problems in steel tube frames of Aircraft. .Nev
  7. It doesn't have to be woven strands. Even covered copper wire corrodes. (verdigrese) . Insulated solid bar is fine. Some Welders and Motors use al windings, Bad electrical connections of any kind cause electrical fires, House wiring is single strand. Nev
  8. Aluminium is an alternative to copper. Nev
  9. Gliders trying for speed carry water to UP the weight. Maintain BEST Lift AoA means faster airspeed needed when heavier than when you are Light. If you are already faster than needed, go higher. It was answered a while back but further consideration doesn't hurt unless we start wandering away from the essential Principle of wing efficiency . Low wing loaded Planes have too Much wing except when taking of and landing and at Service ceiling which IS ? Lack of Power comes into that as well. Fixed tri gear and fairly low cruise speed of the Musketeer means to go higher is better Nev
  10. There's always the Old trick of moving the Battery further back and the advantage of that is you can calculate exactly how far you have to move it before you do anything. Being a fair way from the CofG (long moment arm) it has a lot of effect.. You have to start Nose heavy though. Adding/moving a weight that is not a part of the Plane is a waste and Last resort. Nev
  11. Isn't that what the prop extension is ABOUT? Nev
  12. Yeah Internet and You tube, All Good. The TRUTH now is there's practically NOTHING left that you can trust. We must get about 5 hoax calls a day. A lovely world we have Built for ourselves, which has SO much Potential till it all gets corrupted in no time flat. Nev
  13. Life's a BEECH they say. They have MADE some Pretty good planes. IF you can afford them. Nev
  14. Done a few C/ME/IFR renewals in the Duchess( B 76.) Cost me many $$$$'s. If you have less than 1 G, the stall speed is lowered and so is the DRAG and also the control effectiveness.. The extra mass of engines on the wings makes spins much More risky. DON'T go there. Nev
  15. Parasite drag decreases in thinner air. Most of the Drag relates to lift Generation. These are very high wing loaded aircraft and have a surprisingly good L/D ratio. General principles apply to ALL planes. A lot of planes have too much wing at higher speeds at lower levels. Nev
  16. Every aerofoil has a Cl max and that will be achieved at a particular Angle of Attack. Lets just say it's 6 degrees from the zero lift angle (which may be negative) If you are NOT at the Best angle you are Losing efficiency. If the angle is More than optimum it becomes unstable. If less Not so. You adjust by adding Power or flying at a lower Level. Many tend to fly too high to get a claim on the higher cruise level. Nev
  17. Yeah! Pretty scary and Irresponsible. You Programme something that is capable of modifying that Programme. Madness. nev
  18. Getting there. Let's see if we can get a bit more out of this because it's worth it. Thanks for participating. Nev
  19. I'm addressing YOU. The "Experts" Hoped the atom Bomb wouldn't cause a chain reaction that would destroy the earth, but proceeded with it anyway. Very considerate. Nev
  20. It's about efficiency. Nev
  21. They are simple Physics. Not a design running amok. Nev
  22. Why is it better to fly faster if you are Heavy? Nev
  23. No-one with any brains at all would start something not Knowing what it will do and Maybe cannot be stopped. How Many idiots does it take to crash a Plane?
  24. Sorry I'm out of cigars. Good answer. Nev
