  1. It's not a trim tab so only makes the effort Less. It's not a heavy feel compared to some. Nev
  2. I meant to send this yesterday........... .The endorsements I thought you were referencing are different to the Ones I now understand you mean. I don't deliberately spread MISINFORMATION It's also not quite as simple as you make out, either. Never miss a good gotcha moment though. There was a lot more in my Post than that but no one responds to My stuff unless they think I've Boo Booded. Simply the RAAus Training is not as extensive as the PPL. and operates on dispensations and has no International equivalent or standing as is stated in the article. it was never intended to be a Back door. Nev
  3. Vapour lock is worse and recent Mogas is more suited to Injection than wayback was when Carburetters reigned supreme. and there is not the quality control in Manufacture or distribution.. Engines don't have emotions and the fuel doesn't KNOW what engine it is running in. Also the Octane is a different scale to the Aviation one ( about 4 Lower). Auto fuel is made of anything they want to Put in it.. Compared to Avgas it's the wild west. nev
  4. I did explain the circumstances as I see them. I've run repair Businesses and know of many others where there Has been a waiting list or indefinite deferment. There is a limited capacity to handle stuff sitting around and keeping track of it. That all detracts from getting on with what you already have there already. No small business can be expected to cope with an unanticipated rush. Nev
  5. The weather at PH probably went bad and it doesn't have close alternates. I think Kalgoorlie was limited use only because of Pavement Depth Factors. I ended up at Meekatharra once and there's not much there for the PAX. Nev
  6. One of My Men's shed attendees has one. Plus 2 other planes. Nev
  7. It's Not being FAIR to everyone else . With CASA now you have to advise if you will land without reserves intact. . I would have thought that was what reserves are For. Some people have claimed Priority for a fuel emergency that did not exist to get Priority. The "Powers" are not amused by such behaviour. . Nev
  8. Years ago, Cropdusters in Brazil operated on 100% ethanol. You use a lot more but it's high Octane. Motors run much colder. Nev
  9. Should have declared a fuel emergency before that. Pretty Busy Airport. High stress for the Controllers. Nev
  10. Those RPCert endorsements don't transfer to VH but it works the other way around. If you are doing something like X wind landings in real limit conditions a long period will be wasted money. Learned skills must be consolidated to be firmly imprinted in your skills base. Nev
  11. The PIC is required to operate the Plane in the Most safe way possible in any circumstances. That means SAFEST for you and OTHERS. An Investigatory Board make take weeks to determine if your actions were the correct Ones. The Pilot NEVER has such extra time .. Yes an aerodrome in some Countries can be closed but if that is just sprung on you without notice it may still be the Best option IF realistically there is NO other option.. IF you were on final and below the minimum and had visibility to proceed why would you not do it? . Keep your priorities right. Don't confuse this with "Press on Regardless" It's NOT the same.. Nev.
  12. How could you do that with a large backlog of work and not being sure till you start on each job how much work is involved or what parts are required and what can be repaired and can't be. ? The fact they have a lot of work means they are trusted. You're lucky to get people who are still doing this stuff at all. It's probably Not the way to make Millions either. In this world the retailer often makes more money per Item /article than the Manufacturer does. Nev
  13. There's a few Privately owned one's around, in Aus. Nev
  14. RPM doesn't give you the true Picture. It's the rotational speed at the exact point of the spark occurring that matters for spark generation with anything but Coil ignition. That's why some Magnetos have an impulse mechanism. Near TDC and BDC four cylinder motors have NO flywheel assistance from the Pistons Mass at that Point. Compression slows the rotational speed also on the compression stroke. That's why it's best to have the throttle closed when you start cranking the engine. Nev
  15. Your advice there can impose a lot of Load on the starter mechanism. I would NOT advise it.Nev
  16. The choke doesn't work if the throttle is open too far. Cold engine means cranking speed is lower particularly at the time the spark is supposed to fire. That's why I suggested setting the Plug Gap closer. Having the throttle open more loads the starter as more gas fills the cylinders and has to be compressed. Nev
  17. Is she still doing it? Nev
  18. Outside of the rearward limit is the Most unsafe condition for a plane to be in. IF the Tailplane stalls you get an uncommanded pitch up and loss of control. CofG a bit aft will improve Performance as the usual download requires more lift from the Mainplanes (and more drag) at the same AUW.. Nev
  19. Yes and also Jeopardise it for others. Badgerys Creek has all but finished Flying around Sydney for RAAus types. Predictably though. Residents will certainly notice more Aircraft presence as well. Another reduction of Quality of life in that City. Nev
  20. The Title gives no clue to those with an Open Mind. I don't believe either Aircraft is a Fake Wannabe. It's up to those who Make that assertion to Make their case convincingly not just RAVE on incessantly bagging a GOOD thing.Nev
  21. Believe ME it's NOT a very Capable flying Machine when these failures happen. Later I experienced a Complete Hydraulic failure with the same dope. He didn't even spot the Quantity and Pressure in the Prelanding check. I had to say" Hey NO quantity and NO Pressure" HE just Blithely called the normal response. The destination was fogged in (Port Moresby) so we had to hold in a racetrack Pattern at a couple of thousand feet. But it got even worse after that. The clown just further " lost it" No I'm not writing a Book. I just wondered HOW HE had got to where HE was, A checkie on that type of aircraft. I actually felt sorry for Him, so poor was the Performance. It's a co-incidence that I brought this up at the Men's Shed Today. Others who had flown with him thought exactly the same way. Nev
  22. Yeah but they get less attention. It's always the NEW stuff that gets the Most Interest. Then the rest gets a bit neglected. There's NO Kudos in it for the Empire Builders. Next step, a moon Lander? Who foots the Bill.? Cheap Affordable Flying WAS our AIM. Flying WAS never that cheap and the flipside is the Paperwork and Regulation. THE Freedom of the SKIES is somewhat Illusory. Nev
  23. They look close to being the real deal but you'd have to see if there's any SUSS parts like Plastic cam drive gears or cast cranks.. Running the Motor inverted would be best and I don't know how many would adapt to that. II DO like the Motor in the Spirit. Simple and strong. Low revving. Nev
