  1. "to increase interest and encourage particularly young people to get interested"

Maybe that's the problem, shift away from chasing YOUNG & FEMALE prospects, and try to gain a following in the early retirement groups, that has all the money, no mortgage, kids, and some don't even have the ex-spouse to nag them.

The first two groups are the opposite of, wealthy, unencumbered, They're without PATIENCE and short of ability too boot.

Of the 16 HummelBird builder's maybe One was below the OLD type, looking for the next challenge,

How many YOUNG or FEMALE go out & buy a "open top sports car" (Ferrari type), event the new millionaires (from the mobile contract area) don't bother chasing their "Bucket List", after all they have it now.

  2. "How many are being encouraged to build?"

The HummelBird builder's list was 16, sadly I don't think any are currently active. (I am included).

RAA certainly discourages the 95_10 bullder.

Some like to build, but even old sods like me give it away if there's NO Chance to fly a circuit in my (our) dream machine.

As for getting all the compliance papers & photographs, I gave up Photography to build my dream. now I need photo's of said build.

Camera in one hand rivet-gun in another hand & dolly-block in the third hand, typical bureaucrats want more them I can give.ClearProp5.jpg.31117789dda54af1a2bb20672be5e829.jpg AND even when I go to pains to make Good flush riveting, they say Not as good as lumpy rivets!.

  3. me too,

loved the "ladybird" KK of course, freeflight, tethered, and radio controlled, chasing golfer's down the fairway on a sunday afternoon.

It flew very slow with a "Mills" .75, running as slow as I could get it, only rudder control in those days, PulseProportional came a couple of years later.

  4. Whats all the debate over L2 inspectors having to get higher qualifications

In my UK days when the helmet laws became compulsory a few riders died of broken necks, (no cleaning up of brain mater thou) & is death better than quadriplegia, or being in a vegetable state forever-after.

quick & painless verses years of torment,( friends son is in that state after riding into an unlit skip bin at night). his dads words in that paragraph.

VH experimental, are they allowed to modify their aircraft?.

  5. "maybe one day, I'll brake the law & have a taxi-run,". The Vicroria River Downs Airport" looks a good place, when I passed it a couple years ago, was full of helicopters.

When they made it compulsory to wear helmets I stopped riding motoer-bikes,sold or gave away all my bikes & gear.( had a full set of Indians) Took fifty years till I had the next ride,(after nearly an hour getting into a helmet)

If Casa & the bureaucrats, get their way, we ( the majority) will no longer be able to comply with All their Laws & rules, and will be confined to push-bikes or Public transport !.

  6. YES

I keep running the engine, sitting in the cockpit & dreaming of Flying like an eagle.LoL

But I've stopped doing any more to it. (maybe one day, I'll brake the law & have a taxi-run, etc) been offered quite a few flying places away from civilization ))

  7. That's the one. Four flying, sixteen in the making And then they say too bad it's no longer a 95-10-1103, (which was on their rego list).

Now either VH or 19 reg which means No self maintenance.

    Dave King has a 19-1944 registered (R503) Hummel-Bird

  8. If the pilot passed All the bureaucratic test imposed by CASA, Then they should be liable.

As Pilot has done all that was asked.

I paid for a Raa registration, then it was reneged on, should Raa repay my cost?.

  9. I concur

    A Mcculloch,

    On Ebay:

:Super Rare McCulloch 6-cylinder 2-stroke Military Drone Aircraft Engine $600.00

Had a thought of putting a four cylinder Mcculloch motor into the Hummel, but after driveing from Sydney to central (young area) NSW, I was abused buy the owner for "turning up un-announced on his door step", after I had phoned him about the motor!

    "The six-cylinder is 150 ci &120 hp with a turbocharger. "

  10. Closed road!

If a road has a diversion around the wet bit, IS it closed?.

I was threatened by the police in Tibborburry for traveling from Wanaaring NSW when the road was "Closed in 1/2 a dozen places, all but one signposted,

The road ended at a very large lake with road markers getting shorter as they moved across the lake, then coming up out of the water to go bush at the opposite side (binoculars).

I met the government surveyor who told me to follow his tracks through the bush around the lake to get to Tibborbury..

Then on to Cameron's corner, up the Strzeleci track to Birdsville, turn left over the Red hill across the sand dunes,up the Stuart hwy to Darwin.

fastest way from Sydney, when Earth bound.

  11. You didn't like the " Austin Vanden Plas princess" or the Big "Austin Champ", The Austin Motor Company produced 15,000 Champs, powered by the single overhead cam, inline four-cylinder petrol B40 unit of 2838cc capacity, producing 60kW at 3750rpm and 199Nm at 1750rpm

    . great cars.

  12. O M E

    What no cigar for me!.

We all know Turbo-charging improves the power output of Any normal aspirated engine, & increasing the volatility of fuel will do the same, or why bother with the RON system of fuels.

And the Roots motor used the same amount of fuel to move two pistons at the same time.

  13. NOW

Who is going to Design or produce My favorite engine with,

    2 Nikosil cylinder's,

all aluminum Roots TStwo, (type,( TS3 wasTwoStroke3Cylinder))

AvgasOr 98 Mogas motor, for small aircraft, 50 or 75 hp would be great.

If an old Two pot banger (1/2 vw) can produce 35 to 40 hp with 1/2 the energy wasted on the head configuration, a Roots TS2 type, should easily produce a very high power to weight ratio, & still have only Two spark plugs, plus the same fuel consumption as the original two pot 11/2 VW.

    spacesailor

  14. I notice on Most of these new inventive engines have a piston capped by a Head which absorbs heat but produces No power!

Just look at the Old Roots TS3 motor, 60 years of service & going strong in the Argentina's fishing fleet,

The Best power to weight of any diesel motor with great fuel economy.
