  1. If any doubt you could sit the gear wheel on a piece of thick paper and spray paint around it and post that to them to ensure correct size. Only if there is a doubt about size. Cheers.
  2. It would have been a good development to increase the cross over pipe at the time of doing the casting patterns for the intake manifolds as there is good feedback from those that do such about the smoother idle and possibility of operating at 50% power in the instance of one throttle cable / connection breaking and engine going to full power on one carby. Would have been a good change to what Rotax have there in my opinion. (I'm open / planning to increase my R ULS balance pipe i.d. size.)
  3. Wonder if there are applicable colour endorsements available?
  4. Try my epoxy method on an old oil bottle and see what you think about it. I've done it a few times.
  5. No flying this weekend with our little cyclone visit. Hope everyone in the area is safe. The effect is now between Bowen and Sarina. Should be over the coast in 3 to 5 hours.
  6. Agree, and I do it still, also when doing low rpm descents I bump rpm up to observe response then back to rpm setting.
  7. Agree, also about 9 years ago rotax altered the spec of their oil filters to be a couple of mm longer and then they would not come off with the header in place on the factory exhaust system (talking UL and ULS).
  8. It would be a mockup, my Rotax set up is similar re header to oil filter (although a bit more clearance) I cannot remove my oil filter whilst the header is in place. This is not an issue; as I replace the oil filter every second oil change (100 hrs) and remove the header as I 'Kopper kote' the ball sockets of the header to the muffler every 100 hrs. I see the mock up is tube in tube fit header to muffler and expect it would be a ball / socket type to allow slight movement for alignment etc.
  9. I was in the back, they couldn't get the engine running right so cancelled and refunded the ticket. Heard later recent o that day it had a engine issue and only just got back to the strip.
  10. What aircraft am I in here?
  11. Angus M is an old boss of mine, He in early days was a Navy Clearance diver; he is big on training, preparation, apply learnings, getting it right and a very good communicator. ATSB is in good hands.
  12. Was on channel 7 news this morning, shows high AOA before stall.
  13. Agree, maybe have a short length of rubber coolant hose ready o cap it, hose plugged one end and secured with a hose clap over threads, as a temporary fix.
  14. As Chuck Y says;- "If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing." Therefore not an outstanding landing I'd say.
  15. Two injured in light aircraft crash near Noosa, Queensland, aircraft type not known at moment. A light aircraft has crashed on Noosa North Shore in difficult-to-access terrain, prompting a major emergency response involving five fire crews.
  16. You could make one in epoxy resin, I have done the following in the past. Cut a circle of stiff thin material 0.5 aluminium or plastic sheet to fit over the opening, then coat the threads and top with mould release wax ( a floor type wax or PVA mould release) {maybe try a a fibre glass repair shop or boat builder) then mix some expoy resin and thicken with fibre glass mat cut into the smallest pieces so you have a paste (between honey and peanut paste runniness). Use some plasticine to build a base area to be the bottom of the new cap (if you can't get plasticine then cut a washer like donut to be a tight fit over the thread of the container) Next apply the resin fibre mixture over the container threads and repeat a few to build up the thickness. You will have a nice cap and you can sand and neaten it up to suit. Just an idea.
  17. Ticked off my first fly for the year with an hour out to the coast and back.
  18. I'd give Peter Anson Engineering a call and see if he can make the part and at what price.
  19. Best you phone or email Maxine at RAAus with the question why Parkes and when might it be held at Narromine. No one else can answer that question.
  20. Also looks like didn't pay last landing fee and ARO is onto him / her.🙃
  21. Agree, I have no issue with a ramp check, whether it be Rego, certificate, bfr, maintenance record, release etc.
  22. J Fly'n for Fun to return in 2024 18 April 2023 Comments 0 Comments The national fly-in Fly'n for Fun will return to Parkes NSW in 2024, organisers Recreational Aviation Australia (RAAus) announced today. RAAus will team-up with AMDA Foundation to organise and support the national GA fly-in once more, hoping to attract aviators of all types from around Australia to Parkes on 12-14 April. Recreational Aviation Australia (RAAus) CEO Matt Bouttell said Fly’n For Fun was “a wonderful opportunity to get private aviators together as a community, and in 2024, to also showcase our private aviation industry to the general public. “Fly’n for Fun surpassed our modest expectations in 2022,” he said. “We had more than 70 aircraft fly in for the weekend, and a range of products, services and static aircraft on display. We’re planning to at least double the size of the event for 2024 and to appeal to aspiring aviators as well. “Parkes Shire Council has once again welcomed us and we’re thrilled to support this community, many of whom had to deal with not only the effects of the pandemic but also multiple natural disasters in recent years. "We’re really excited about bringing some business to the region and also inspiring the next generation of aviators." AMDA Foundation has increased its sponsorship support for Fly'n for Fun, with CEO Justin Giddings stating that the event fitted well with AMDA mission. “Promoting recreational aviation has always been part of our mission, from the first Schofields Air Show in northwestern Sydney in 1976 to the Centenary of Federation AirShows in the Outback in Queensland during 2001 and providing free space and sponsorship for aviation associations and groups at the Australian International Air Show at Avalon since its inception in 1992,” he said. “The first Fly’n for Fun in 2022 provided the recreational aviation community with a chance to regroup after COVID and share their passion for flying. The 2024 event will expand on the theme, with more activities to spark interest in the general public and particularly young people who may see aviation and aerospace as a potential career. "Flying for fun is not only a great recreational pastime; it is also a serious endeavour that benefits the broader community.” The event site will relocate to vacant land behind the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) Parkes museum building, which will enable organisers to construct a taxiway for static display aircraft and under-wing campers to cross the airport boundary and park aircraft on the display site. “We’re also thrilled to be working closely with HARS Parkes Aviation Museum [not only] as a chance to provide a terrific attraction for Fly’n For Fun attendees, but also to support their continued dedication for preserving Australia’s aviation history, Boutell said.” AMDA's involvement with Fly'n for Fun is part of an expanded portfolio of GA events for the foundation, which also includes Airshows Downunder Shellharbour, formerly Wings over Illawarra. More information is on the Fly'n for Fun website.
