  1. Hook up a multimeter to a male plug for the 12v cig lighter type outlet and see what volts your making, needs to be 13.6 +.
  2. First checks after start includes voltage increase to 13.6 - 13.8v; if that does not occur then you will be doing a set of checks (usually faulty rec/reg or if lucky just poor connections to the rec/reg. Do your volts increase after start?
  3. Reuse original one this time, make sure you use two spanners on drain nut. One for can hex and one on drain nut and undo between spanner forces.
  4. It has a circular cutter; they all have a circular cutter; same as copper pipe cutters.
  5. There was a story about aluminium hulled and cabin vessels were a mercury filled thermometer broke and the ball of mercury corroded a hole down through the hull.
  6. Practical Implications The destructive effects of mercury on aluminum are particularly critical in industries where aluminum is a primary material, such as aerospace and automotive sectors. The presence of mercury can lead to catastrophic failures if not properly managed. For this reason, the transportation and use of mercury in environments where aluminum is present are heavily regulated. In summary, mercury can have detrimental effects on aluminum
  7. I use the AIRWOLF CAN CUTTER size for ROTAX FILTERS, sent you a pm as have a second one in its box package and never used.
  8. Only mercury, wipe liberally with mercury and there will be no visible corrosion in no time:)
  9. Stainless not best, used to penetrate corrosion between the two metals in the marine environment with aeroguard; yep the insect spray. Not kidding either.
  10. I recall one of the aims / criteria was to use the existing cowls without need to modify if possible. That way you offer a direct engine swap package with existing shape.
  11. Too much speed and you can't land, may get wheels on deck but won't stop, if speed kept up. There is a sweet speed spot area.
  12. A lady fitted a washer to the merlin a number of years back and it performed better, development and refinement is a good thing, innovation.
  13. For info this is a gauge tool to check 914 carb bowl is not warped bent, showing pins ate vertical.
  14. Agree that is why the Rotax 914 cab bowl is held in place with a bolt in the bottom of the float bowl (the spring on the 9i2's is not strong enough). Over time the bowl to cab gasket leaks and people tighten the nut and redo it a number of times this causes the bowl to deform and the carb float pins splay out and effect the movement of the floats. Attention is needed for this when servicing and maintaining the 914's. I'm personally happy with the 912's.
  15. 12.6 is engine to run on condition info, Also would be good to hear approximate cost for GA aircraft (specific to checks performed on engines performance) for the assessing condition of engine to go to next service interval. Then compare that with RAAus costs (RAAus processing plus whatever L2 amounts to.)
  16. Is it factory or owner built and email Australian agent and ICP overseas for their advice. You could also phone bearing supplier with your bearing number and they can give alternate types of sealed bearings that will fit.
  17. Met up at Burdekin breakfast a week ago. Like his bigger diameter prop. Very interesting setup by a talented mechanic. Cheers.
  18. Info building, they are out there. Just saw this on a VG advertisement. Also, last weekend was shown over a 912 supercharged that had a crossover pipe setup. Yep supercharged, great info for me to consider.
  19. I haven’t read story but looks like progress on an outcome.
  20. 7,000 is the current highest hours known to Rotax.
  21. Investigation process usually covers that question, eg viewing previous track logs and interviews of previous students and passengers.
  22. I fitted a set of these, Aveo GliderBurst DayLite – Wingtip Strobe Light One on top of fin and one bottom of fuse. $451 at Aircraft Spruce Australia. I also fitted their 8 LED rectangular landing light, they have other types now. They seem about the cheapest good quality brand items.
  23. What does POH say, most want it on during the landing phase and off during final; when you are easily with glide to thresh hold / aiming point to off in case of a go around.
