Welcome John, hope you enjoy!

This is the 'recreational pilot licence' that CASA are proposing. I doubt Ra-Aus has decided how to integrate these proposals yet, probably wait and see when / if it happens.
Don't hold your breath, it's CASA remember.... hey why not phone or email them, let us know what they tell you.

Welcome Lyle. I heard there is a CASA a proposal to lift it to 1500kg MTOW possibly next year?

Doesn't work for everyone. I bought a Macbook a few years ago and don't plan on buying any more Apple products unless I have no other choice. It's always been very slow (despite having few programs installed and oodles of free memory) runs hot and has been somewhat unreliable, with the spare parts cost being outrageous. PC's / Windows have improved to the point that I think they are superior if you are looking just for a desktop / laptop computer.Once you go mac you never go back -
Hello Ian, how does one estimate postage costs for your goods?

29 km to Nowra? I don't think so. There are plenty of other things one could speculate about in any such accident; was alchol involved? depression? (I don't know the pilot so I'm generalising here) The list is almost endless... but not much point speculating as we simply dont know. I suggest give it a rest until a report comes out - or not.I would speculate that perhaps without too much thinking the PIC may have thought ... only 29Klms to home ... still got enough light to get there ... I can easy do it ... done it before ...??? And in a breach of the rules, he took off ...-

Hey Scotty the 'hands on' and technical stuff would be more SAAA territory, you might get on better at Ausfly Narromine.

I don't get this - it reads like you are sympathetic with the pilot that caused this accident but angry with everyone else... or am I misunderstanding you?Thoughts are with the Family and friends. Frankly, ive had a gut full. Im not here to point fingers at deceased people. But I am going to point fingers at the rest of us. -
Welcome Hugh! Great to have someone of your experience here.

On the subject of Rich Stowell I was interested in buying one of his books but I can't figure out which. Anyone know if his more recent (and thicker) book "Stall / Spin awareness" includes most or all of the info in the earlier "Emergency maneuver training"? And are the DVD's essential towards following the material in these books? TaThe video at the top right at http://www.richstowell.com/ demonstrates recoveries... -
OK, I thought hands off was fairly conventional practice. Guess I should google & not be lazy....

Great article about the founder of Ivoprop, he sounds a real character. His man cave is rather like mine only bigger and with 400 acres of desert attached.
"Pointing to some ammunition laid out on a homemade table, Mr Zdarsky said: 'That’s what our guys are using in Afghanistan. It’s very effective against badgers. And probably terrorists too."

Measurably higher-powered than what I used on the neighbours cat, but then he has the space....

One day should be enough for a childless grumpy old mans convention. In and out on Saturday - so much to do, so little time.

Gotta ask - Moloch? As in child sacrificing? Horridus for sure if so....

Cheap. Sounds like they couldn't afford zip-ties.Looking inside the wing I found that the ribs are attached to the front spar using what looks like Metal Hose Clamps...

Do you like powered parachutes like the Aerochute or similar? Seems like a cheaper purchase option for some weekend fine weather fun and rather compact for storage & transportation.
-
Thanks Scotty & Clansman, sounds like its more intended for older folk.
Probably re-think my plans; can I purchase videos of the various workshops later?

Hey folks, Natfly is gnu to me, is there something for young children to do (2 - 7 yo)? I've seen the playground by the museum previously which is good but not going to work for all day entertainment of course.

Pelicans? We followed the Avon River from York to Beverley and what an adrenaline rush it was. -
Yo.

80knts wasn't giving advice & also wasn't talking about legitimate marked police cars; you are clearly free to stop for anyone you choose to of course.

It may be possible to get a more economical Heli licence via New Zealand? Sure isn't viable in this country for recreational purposes.

From his (Smeets) blog:
"My back-of-the-napkin calculations say that we would need about 2000W of continuous power. Well-trained arms can output about 5% of that, so we will rely mainly on the motor for flapping the wings. Lightweight motors that output 2000W aren’t hard to find. My first goal is to stay in the air for about 5 minutes, therefore we will need a 166 watthour batterypack, which weighs around 1400 grams. Because human arms aren’t very strong, they will mainly function as guides, to control the flapping wing movements in a natural and intuitive way. These calculation are made for an ideal situation. Any inefficiencies aren’t taken into account, this will be found out by trial and error."
The blog post is also part of the hoax it seems. Craving 5 minutes of fame, must be a strong drug...

Sorry to hear that Sol, but yeah probably a good lesson in there - always first consider what could go wrong before using tools / machines. Lots of fires started by angle grinders and welders.
