It's a version of Godwins law - a thread here will always drift into either Jabiru bashing or RA-Aus bashing.Another CFI setting a bad example - the RAA culture is badly in need of repair.-

Looks like it could be a 'green screen' job where the background is added via video editing later...

Drifter pilots in actual flight look like this.

Very good read Eric, enjoyed the update.
"Damn those spreadsheets that prove that owning an aircraft is like throwing away $100 notes into the breeze..."
Ah yes, the euphoric Wayne Swan feeling!

Mate, be patient. He flies a trike - Perth to Sydney, work it out....... waiting ...... waiting ....... -
This sort of thing happens very often in cars and motorbikes also.

These skydive folk got hit by a nasty wind.
Meanwhile it's been calm for a good while here, probably too calm.... get no crosswind landing practise.

I understood current RA-Aus pilot certificate holders will be grandfathered into the new RPL with a few training updates to cover CTA etc. But I might have it wrong of course.Correct Frank, RA Aus certificate holders will NOT be eligible for the RPL unless they do the PPL exams and sylabus -
What exactly is a 'safety tank' please Turbo... could you describe how these work?Amazing, in self regulated motor racing we brought in safety tanks decades ago, but here we dither on. -
I might have read it wrong but I don't believe it was shot down in the desert, the flak damage apparently occurred elsewhere at an earlier time.I'd say it was too much lead -
You know Eric reading through this has made me realise how I take the good weather here for granted. It really is quite rare to have weather such that you can't fly on the day you would like to. In fact I have somewhat the opposite situation, currently I am waiting for a windy / gusty day to do more crosswind landing practise, too much of easy conditions lately.

Let's send some ATSB rookies there to give us a detailed report on why it came down, good training exercise.

And somewhat related - almost perfectly preserved P-40 fighter found in the Sahara desert.
The local Arabs have taken the important parts (guns and ammunition) of course.
EDIT: just noticed this article has appeared on its own thread.

Nasty! Didn't know Tata were making electric cars (recently renowned for their self-combustion abilities).

Mate don't put up with this - demand a refund for the missing portion or the date be corrected. Make a big noise and keep at it till they make good as this simply isn't good enough, these people (PS) are our servants and you should make it clear you expect much better. In many cases only by annoying them somewhat will they lift their game. Not only did I have to change my Christmas plans but I lost 2.5 months on the renewal date as well. My whinge for the day.Personally I reckon I would have just gone on the trip... can you imagine Qantas laying off staff / cancelling flights as they were waiting for their updated ASIC's?

An amusing article in the LAT about American Airlines in the 1980's offering for sale a pass for unlimited first class travel - as often as you would like to wherever you wished.
Great idea until folks actually started doing just that, racking up 10's of millions of 1st class miles.... well worth the read if you feel like a chuckle. I'm an AA frequent flyer as their program is so much better than Qantas / Virgin locally but I found it rather creepy the way AA finally escaped most of its obligations to these pass-holders, intimidation and siccing lawyers and investigators onto them.

Except that Durban (mentioned by Vev #269) has a fairly tropical type climate also.As much as I don't believe the reason given by Jab for the failure (ie not living in Bubndaberg etc) they may well be on to something. Could high humidity (northern climes) play a part in keeping the engines cooler than they would be in low humidity? -
Young (then) friend of mine used to often borrow his grandpa's HK Holden and almost equally as often the muffler would fail for some mysterious reason. Grandpa got tired of these crappy standard mufflers that would never last long and finally made up his own - fabricated from 1/4" plate.... what a legend, it was indestructible then! Poor kids these days, miss out on so much.Ah, that brings back memories of my old hoon days FH, turn the key off for a couple of seconds as I drove past the Sergeant's house, and it went off like a shotgun! -
Turbo - if not registered you just cut and paste the headline into Google and go from there.
As the global warming scam has collapsed the newsmakers are looking for alternate scary headlines / articles for fillers.

Welcome Southron! Very beautiful part of the world there where you live, and quite aviation friendly too. Enjoy....

Went to a party in the US last year with a bunch of USAF pilots, one of them was yarning about doing 300+ knots terrain following at 300 feet and noticing a couple of base jumper whizz by the wing....

Yeh i do mag check alwayz prety standard practis still I reckon. Instructor coulda been distracted

-
Well I can understand the frustration but think that through first please as this sort of thing does not boost the aviation industry or help keep our costs down; the only winners are lawyers.I'm ready to start a class action on this mob at Jabiru-

Our present government is like a mortally wounded beast lurching and staggering about in the wilderness searching for our dollars to eat.... anything is possible at the moment.
Hey, might be an idea to delete this question please Ian?

"During 2011 and 2012 the government served a number of show cause notices on CASA due to concerns about ignorance of aircraft maintenance, failure to report internal incidents, inadequate staff training, a deficient staff culture, an inability or unwillingness of key personnel to carry out their obligations and key positions unoccupied or dysfunctional."
