Fantastic Eric, thanks for posting!

I'm pretty sure every non-US citizen has to apply through the TSA's 'Alien Flight Training' scheme since the 9/11 stuff?Gnarly if you just went on a three month tourist visa you could do your PPL at any flying school with out needing special requirements -
C'mon be brave Hongie! Just imagine you are one of the Wright bros stepping out into the great unknown....if someone offered me a ride in a jab powered aircraft, i think i would give it a miss!

20 - 30 minutes max is a power nap and will invigorate for quite a while, a couple of hours will put you into deep sleep and thus hit you hard when you try to wake.
-
Yeah it's real cheap, I was thinking about doing PPL there, problem is the special visa requirements & schools that take foreigners with these visas seem to charge more.in the USA and they are still far cheaper (in same cases half the price) of what they are here. -
The price in real terms is probably about the same just that our dollar is worth so much less now so you need a lot more of them, especially for local products / services. Also no GST then. Check house prices, gold price etc in 2000. Governments have been busy printing $$ since then.

Sorry I haven't photographed them yet - they are the A600 model, pretty common.

Good news John! Re airbrakes, not the same thing I know but the Jab flaps used to be better but the factory de-rated them (limited the max angle) about a year ago, kinda gutless now.

I have a pair of new Whelen wingtip nav / strobes with power supplies I was going to sell, plan to put them on eBay in a few days time so I'll post a link in the classifieds section here.

Quite so; 'bogan' is the left's contemptuous term for what used to be called the working class.I don't think attaching a defamatory category to a group of people advances the discussion very much. -
Let alone these ones do a rather good job of killing themselves. But no surprise you regard anyone who respects those that died in the service of country on their behalf as a bogan.

^ whatever that means who knows.
Really? Must be different weather the other side perhaps, it was nice where we went at 6am and numbers were good. Wish a few more would sing the hymns and anthem though. Not so grumpy Riley, like all things it becomes more commercialised every year. Sadly smaller turnout where I am, cold and wet. -
You are right about some regulatory differences of course. I've always regarded the US system as the 'normal' one (being the home of aviation and all) and the AU system as the one with some quirks and somewhat weird and regressive regulatory governance under CASA.I tend to take these US based courses with a grain of salt - they are designed around US aviation users and around their regulations and systems of measurement, not Australia's.-

Welcome Jen. It take it that is RA-Aus and GA training then?
-
Was talking to a guy today who owns a single seat Yak taildragger, it can climb at 5600 feet per minute. Hard to imaging holding that thing back for a Jab....

Nah, flying cars are fantastic. And the Maverick for example looks like equally a fun car (well buggy if you prefer) as a flying one.I don't get the fascination with flying cars. It will do neither task well, so aren't you better off having one of each? A car and an aircraft that is... -
Welcome Steve! Engine diagnostics?

Well I guess the suggestions and comments were in response to your comment in an era when fire was more a concern:As for the talk of Nomex and all the comments about flying in it, are you guys serious? Motzartmerv I find you comment about not daring to get in an aircraft where the pilot occupies the same space as the fuel pretty ridiculous to be honest.
On this topic I just read this article today about an experimental landing on the roof of a shopping centre & catching fire. It caught my eye as I've spent some time in DeLand Florida in the past and have been to that shop if I recall correctly. To be honest tough the main concern for me with the J2 and a prang is it's one of those wonderful designs where the fuel tank sits just above your knees. Have heard to many stories of survivable crashed becoming fatal after the engine made the fuel tank catch fire! -
I suggest getting yourself a Nomex (aramid) flight suit or pants at least. Can't hurt.

Oh man, do I have to buy a watch to fly now?
Actually many years ago I did own a digital watch, one night it literally exploded. Woke me up with the bang, blew the back cover right off with bits of battery scattered around the bedroom. Just a bog basic watch, no James Bond thing. Must have shorted out.

Yep, that's why I'll not be there. And it's not family friendly.I think the fact is that it is held on Easter, when people want to be with their families, which would be another reason for less than desired numbers...-

Rego labels are getting old fashioned, RA-Aus could go label-less like some states do for cars now. The rego number is checked on-line to confirm currency. One RAA aircraft missed out of being judged because "No current rego lable" was visible.-
