Thanks folks, I was looking at both websites just a day or so ago. Not sure of local pricing. Anyone here own or flown the SW Virus I wonder?
-
Well it's not so much that they are idiots just that their costs due to incidents are so much higher.
-
Apparently 'medical marijuana', for the many sick people in CA.

-
Mark be aware that an amphib is 2x the insurance cost also. Not to put you off of course!
-
Mark you would love Alaska, a crazy amount of float planes & amphibs there. I'll see if I can post some pictures later. Importing from Alaska is complex and more expensive, from the lower 48 a container currently costs around $4000 from the west coast (plus a bunch of fees & GST this end) but you will obviously incur costs with inspection, disassembly and packing. I can recommend Skyview Aviation in Tracy CA, they helped me out for a very reasonable fee & regularly send aircraft to AU.

Fantastic John!

Thanks for those links, well written articles; actually the most sensible thing I've ever read in The Canberra Times (AKA The Communist Times) I think. It's a shame there is no suitable airfield for RAA / GA in the area or even just over the border in NSW.
-
Was thinking that too but this is Europe, so who knows by now Brussels probably has regulations against individuals flying their own planes (or something equally nuts)!Fantastic models but some of them are so big I think I'd rather fly it myself. -
Can someone please explain why they don't land alongside on the grass in this situation? OK there are lights to watch out for but it seems so much more repairable & less likely to create combustion. Must be a good reason I'm not aware of.
-
Irish first weren't they? I really enjoy hearing bagpipes but I admit my enthusiasm could wear thin over an extended playing period... the drones start to sound like Juliar certain Canberra based people.iAnd my mob's Scottish, so I'm allowed to say it. -
Well done Dave! How long did this take you (or is that not a questions I should ask)?
-
Yes, a high wing is just a low wing flying upside down right?Who said high wings can't be fast!

Yeah but it can be done for example the Pipestrel Virus SW works (at least on paper), no idea of prices here for them & never seen one. And taildraggers are inherently slightly faster than NW of course. I'd be OK with a low wing, I just like the view from a high wing.High wing taildragger, doesn't scream speed to me...
I probably should look through the RV range as I'm sure there would be cheap ones kicking around in the USA but have to watch the build quality of course.
-
Thanks I'll look into those. Should have mentioned I would prefer high wing taildragger but doesn't have to be. Not a kit or a mega-buck item though.

You awful people, Bob Brown will poke pins in your effigies if he hears.
Which is great actually - provided he doesn't go any further than that of course.
-
Just doing some research & thought I would call upon the fount of combined knowledge that hangs out here! Which 2 seat aircraft offer the highest cruise speed say 130 knots or better suitable for long distance travel? I'm thinking ultralight but would consider imported GA if the operating costs aren't too high.
-
Welcome Adam, sounds like you're having a lot of fun!
-
He's been sent off to re-education camp. Qantas has outsourced that operation to Siberia....

Drop pairs of shoes with the laced tied as you fly past the powerlines, eventually some will connect!

Only time. Time is the most precious commodity any individual has & I have to travel too far to the airfield currently.
As I'm not flying often enough currently (too much work) I worry that I'll forget some important and otherwise obvious air law such as who I have to give way to or something so I tend to be glancing through the text books to remind me.
-
I enjoy side slipping too, didn't realise there were these different types till I read this interesting and helpful article. On engine failure training I found it's a nice backup, allows you to keep some extra height as a safety margin till you are quite close to the landing spot chosen & happy with it then loose the excess height rapidly.
-
Welcome Mark, hope you enjoy the ride. Yeah I agree an amphib like the SeaMax would be wonderful in TAS.
-
Dunno what the normal time frame for the forms is but last election for me I was away O/S for 3.5 weeks and returned to find 2 x RAAus magazines arrived in the mail, one of which included voting forms for an election that had finished the same day I returned home.
Freedom not to vote is a democratic right but yeah 10% is pretty low (unless you are a Green).

Welcome Kev! There are a few of us Adelaide folk skulking around here. Have you taken an ultralight for a spin yet? (Ah, that would be flight not spin I guess....)

Fantastic, love that polished aluminium & it has been put together really neatly (although must admit the Sonex design always looks a bit ugly duckling to me).
