A 544 tonne, 385 foot wingspan orbital rocket launching platform....
That big bird will require quite some runway. Great idea, much more fuel efficient than surface launched rockets - although not nearly as impressive to watch / feel of course.

Welcome glyneoz! Havta ask, got tail rash yet?

You might like the taildraggers at Aldinga (sounds a bit far though).

Hello Alan, you didn't 'receive any flak', I was just having a friendly dig at you as you said "there are members of RaaUs who complain about their membership fees already, it would only give them more fuel to whinge". To many folk $185 is still a fair bit of money, personally I wouldn't be labelling them complainers and whingers just for raising the question, kinda came across as perhaps a tad harsh this time....It wasn't a smiley it was a thank you.But I will now accept it as being a joke. It is interesting that the original person who posted (I just commented on it ) did not receive the flak that I did.Alan.
But getting back to the thread topic, I hope Solomon is able to continue his training.

Thanks for the reminder of how GYFTS works David, that is how it should be.
Fee whingers again eh? Haha, considering this as a new user name now - I take it anyone who bags out 'fee whingers' is in the cashed up 1% right?

-
Relax Alan, it was a joke... there was a smiley thing at the end see. You were having a dig at folks complaining about the RAaus fee and suggested we could all be paying more to give some people free flight training so the inference was to lead by example! I'm with F_T and Turbo on this, it's well intentioned but probably not entirely beneficial for the organisation as a whole in the long run. Having a fund for voluntary contributions from members would be fine of course, Motz and others have done just that helping out young Solomon.I'm totally confused here, what have I said on this topic to make you say that.Alan. -
Fallen on your feet there buddy, Guernsey (AKA Mr Moneybags around here) wants to pay for your flight training!Possibly referring to the GYFTS scholarship, which coincidentally I am in the middle of applying for right now.

Aircraft noise complaints are handled by Air Services Australia, not sure he would get that far with them. I also think the high revving Rotax engines sound a bit unpleasant, like a rice burner from the 70's. Would the guy be complaining if folks were running radial engines or Merlin V-12's? (OK I admit one of my less practical contributions here).
In general the most pleasant man-made sounds = large radial engine, rocket engine, turbofan spooling up. Pick your preferred propulsion source Mr complainer.

What was it like in the days of hand-propping Nev?

Thanks folks, these photos are nice. Can't open the window in a Jabiru for a clear shot, at least not in a way that the owner wouldn't notice later!

I reckon you'll like the extra speed and power of the 6 cyl if doing some distance regularly.
How about a used RV with a Lycoming or something like that?
-
That was back in the 70's.

In general terms active cancellation / ANR works better for lower frequency noise, passive is more effective for upper mid / higher frequencies. Higher revving means a little less LF and more mid + upper mid. That's the theory, you really need to try out the different brands yourself of course to take in to account comfort etc. And as they say with electronics, don't buy it until you are ready to use it, it will be cheaper and better by then.

Wow, yer a dead set legend Meth! That fiendish looking beast would work well for other things; you could rent it to the cops for sorting out illicit dope crops or occupy squatters camps (often combined) etc.
-
Didn't work when I tried so yeah..... I guess also Gnu's are not highly motivated about such things.

Can't be bothered figuring out how to log in.

Does it work out cheaper than the dual zip-tie system? You will need two AN894-D8- Female Straight to Male 37 Degree unions to connect your fuel lines to the tank.

Welcome Justin, That's one part of the USA I've never visited, your photos look wonderful! Have fun in the drifter....

I went to one, RPL wasn't discussed at all. I asked the CASA rep about possible future weight increases for RAaus aircraft (seeing as carrying less fuel to meet a weight limit is a safety hazard) and he replied "isn't going to happen".go to a CASA AvSafety seminar or talk given by the GA taskforce, they have been talking to industry about it. -
Useful means of multitasking that, especially during boring conference calls. Less chance of tracing background noises like the odd explosion.
