  1. Darren Barnfield? started the concept with good intentions, which was a good idea. But RAAus poured fertiliser on it and made it grow into way more than what it started. So, I would allege they probably sold it off and the members will never know the details of what went on. I was talking to someone last week, no names, no pack drill. He enquired about getting an MARAP and was shocked at the cost? He needs 2 of them by the looks. He had 2 words for RAAus, first one stats with G and second one starts with F. His comments? He will do his own mods AND repeats the 2 words 🤢 And fly away happy, at no extra cost 🤩
  2. So much for an announcement to the members that this is happening and that is a bit of a problem with RAAus, there does not seem to be much transparency to members. And that is a bit of a problem I have.
  3. Nev, there ARE choices, you don’t have to fly to an airfield that charges landing fees UNLESS you want provided facilities. Going off the wall 🤩 Your plane will fly just as well if it’s unreg OR you don’t have a licence for it. Many are unreg and not RAA members,? Who is gonna catch’em? I personally know a man who CASA were chasing over 40 years ago, for running an illegal charter operation with a C-47? They tried hard to catch him, but got lost looking for him and even overslept their alarm clocks 🤩 Early bird, catches worm 🐛 As I said, go VH stick to private airfields, attend impromptu invited Fly Ins and be happy. RAAus make noises ,but do nothing, except collect rego money, memberships fees, Sell MARAPs, and I now suspect we will lose a printed magazine.
  4. Try 3 months……I have seen paperwork 👍
  5. Well, I ended up settling on this oil as an interim solution, however the caveat is……it requires very good mixing, preferably in a small 5 litre container, then added to a 20 litre container, with further agitation to throughly mix it properly THEN fill the aircraft. Proper mixing is paramount 👍 Long term, is probably Brendan’s suggestion on Amsoil Interceptor brand. Which I would use to commission my new 582 I fit to the Thruster?
  6. Some time ago, a clandestine fly in was held in a reasonable remote area, it was attendance by invitation only. From feedback I received, many attendees were unhappy with the direction RAAus is taking and as such, some are no longer members, read into that and it’s obvious what’s going on. However, there will soon be choices, to easily go VH with RAAus registered aircraft? Fly on RPL with all the benefits, maintain your own aircraft, even IF you did not build it, after passing the accredited SAAA Maintenance Course, present that Certificate to CASA and receive their approval to maintain your own aircraft. This should all be approved by end of this year, from what I personally know. CASA want this to happen and have been very obliging, in the negotiations to achieve this. Stay tuned……
  7. Well, I wanted to build an Airstrip on my property, after doing some clandestine research I discovered I could end up drawing the Crabs 🦀 So, I have carefully cleared a paddock which is rather wide, and plently long enough for my X-Air STD to get off and return to. Its simply a paddock in a rural area, cleared and will be raked off with a set of diamond narrows to smooth it. Job done ✅ The plan is, I fly the X-Air out to my big hangar about 70km away, then I can fly my other aircraft from the made and approved airstrip on a friends property. Answer is……just have cleared area big enough to use as an airstrip, when you don’t have an airstrip 🤩
  8. How clean do the spark plugs read? Do you run recommended heat grade, where is your IGN timing set?
  9. The 618 runs premix, same a the new factory 582 that I got.
  10. Rotax 618 with 99 hours TT in an X-Air Standard
  11. Thanks, the Castrol Oils are easily available. i had picked this as a possible? https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Shop-our-Full-Range-by-Brand-at-Autobarn/Penrite/Penrite-Hi-Per-2-Stroke-Semi-Synthetic-Engine-Oil-2-5L/p/OA00261
  12. I was just looking for a quick answer on a weekend so I could do my research and buy what I needed Monday in the local area
  13. I have searched the Forums, but found no answer? so I am now looking for a suitable full synthetic oil to use in the Rotax 618 that I have just acquired. In looking at Penrite MC-2ST Full Synthetic Two Stroke Oil. it has a note in the specifications, as being unsuitable for ultralight aircraft So now looking for a suggested alternative?
  14. Next question I have to ask is does the MARAPs transfer seamlessly to a new owner or do they have to re-validate any MARAPs applying to the aircraft at the time of ownership change?
  15. I’m wondering if that is the total cost for all of the mods applied for in one application or if they must be assessed separately on individual MARAP applications?
  16. I’m hoping to find out the real cost of what the MARAP was for all the Drifters mods
  17. I heard of one instance where they were unhappy with a guy wanting to take his aircraft off their register and they stuffed him around so much to try and delay him from going VH. That is very unethical. 🤢
  18. I will bet when RAAus wake up to what is going on, they’re going to start charging people more money for endorsements, taking aircraft off their register so people can go VH. They will just introduce a raft of charges to try and make up the kitty even more.
  19. Nev, like many organisations, history has not been on their side but big changes have been made, and the atmosphere at the AGM and Fly In was very positive, they are getting quite a few member sign ups right now. Many applicants for their new CASA approved MPC qualification. Cant be any worse than RAAus wanting to ground legacy aircraft from flying……
  20. Find another Flying School by the sound of that. 🤢
  21. But the conversion hours are low? I guess you have checked this out? Cost wise etc.
  22. There are many changes afoot for Aviators to leave the RAAus regime and transfer to VH reg, and end up with many more rights, subject to doing approved courses. I have it on good authority that many RAA members are not renewing, and flying unregistered. They can also regain legality with VH rego,, and follow the SAAA regime, if they become a member.
  23. Well, it maybe a candidate to go VH? I can check that out? Right now, there are lots of things going on in CASA, they are very tight lipped right now, but I suspect a lot of it is behind the scenes from the Mt Beauty saga. It’s not over, until the fat lady sings……..
  24. Well, I will see what happens, because I will change it to VH, if I have to because the new SAAA MPC Course, being approved by CASA as we speak, will allow non builders to maintain their aircraft with the sanctioned authority from CASA. There will be training advantages, as well. A lot of info came out of the SAAA Fly In and AGM at Narromine, and their prototype MPC course that was run on the day , was given the tick of approval by CASA engineering people, in attendance on the day. All that remains is to submit the documents for CASA to sign off. Aviation is about to enter a new era.
  25. Brendan, Where is that determination from RAAus? Is that a recent thing about abinitio training? Only? Or does it include endorsements, too? Is it because being unable to zero time 582s now? I got a phone call only, from RAAus about 12 months ago saying mine was not able to be used for training, nothing in writing? But for me I see no training problem, when I finally instal my fresh, factory crate 582 complete, installed and commissioned? Maybe there is more I don’t know about?
