  1. I've never liked them, but they have enormous Range. Nev
  2. As I said a while back. It's not easy to regulate a PERMANENT magnet device by it's very nature. Everything else is regulated by electro-magnet strength controlling the Output. A relatively easy task, that doesn't create a lot of Heat. Nev
  3. Regulating a Permanent Magnet device is Not an easy task. Nev
  4. Worse in a Drifter on a cold day or a Tiger moth at FL150 in winter. They climb higher in Winter. Nev
  5. Unpressurised Aircraft Hulls normally have Reduced Pressure inside compared to Outside. Exhaust fumes etc can leak in from Many Places . Having adequate outside Air vents directed to your face Must Be an advantage. It helps some from getting Airsick as well. Nev
  6. Yeah. Pretty grim. High nose up attitude in the grass off the strip. You never know what you will hit there. Very violent. Left engine breaks clean off and no doubt FUEL spills everywhere from tank Pumps near to the Hot engine. Boom. Nev
  7. Not in turns, but otherwise yes. Getting in and out can be easier. Gets through farm gates better too and you CAN have More Bank on when X-wind landing.. Nev
  8. Were you on the Road to Mandalay, where the Flying Fishes Play? Nev
  9. Drop the wing first, then top rudder to Keep the Nose up. Power off of course. Speed (pitch) control critical Do it at height till you have it skun. A DH 82 is a good Plane to do it in. Do you do 3 Pointers? I rarely did it any other way, You use too Much runway. I've flown the Gypsy moth, but there are ALL wood and made a Long time ago. Nev
  10. It's all Mikes fault trying to Make us Jealous(successfully).. Nev
  11. There's about 6 names in France for Crayfish like critters. What the Locals call them would be good enough then you know what you are getting. "ONE of THEM" is OK when you are at a Fish Co-op Counter. Who Cares as long as it's fresh and affordable. Nev
  12. In my experience very few people get sideslipping correct. IF you don't have the wing well down it's just a Horrible skid and a bit dangerous. Airspeed control is essential. Too fast and you strain things Too slow and you are dangerous. Practice at Altitude till you get it right. I've seen Plenty of Instructors who don't do it Properly so how are you going to Learn from them . Use it on Planes without flaps. IF you have effective flaps, use the Flaps because you will be slower. Nev
  13. Yes they will easily Pierce the skin between your thumb and first finger. One claw is usually Larger than the Other. Smaller ones are called Yabbies. I have them in my dam. A NATIVE species, apparently. Some are Known as Marron. Nev
  14. That's what the crocs want you to believe. They warm themselves up in the sun, with their Mouth wide open to keep their (tiny) Brain cool. Nev
  15. Watch out the Noahs and crocs don't get you. Nev
  16. Gliders don't go to Major Airports or have to comply with other requirements you will be asked to do. Nev
  17. I'd suggest it was condensation forming on the inside at Night. Sydney is very Humid, Plenty of sheds drip Moisture at Night from the support Beams from the Underside of the Roof. A lot of dusts are either acid or alkaline. Higher up in a shed stays a bit warmer. because Hot Air rises. Most intricate things when stored need special Preparation to prevent surface rust activity and oxidation of waxes and Oils. If you have reground crankshafts and newly Machined gears etc sitting on shelves they all need protection. Oils and waxes oxidise and Leather rots. Bat $#!t is really bad at damaging surfaces (Paint and Plating). Rubber goes hard and cracks I have ONE (only) Sealed and well insulated room where stuff can be left for ages But everywhere else You have to cover if and Polish the surfaces to Protect the Finishes. Nickel and chrome are Both Porous enough to form rust below the Plating. Zinc gives a Galvanic Protection but it's soft and abrades easily. Stuff left sitting can deteriorate badly of not looked after Properly. IF it's in a bin makes sure there are holes in the Bottom in case some water gets in there. Just one rusted tooth on a Gear Makes it useless. Beds on Lathes, Mills and machine grinders must be cared for Meticulously or they lose their accuracy. Bare Metal ready to Paint should be coated with an etch or appropriate surface chemical as soon as it cleaned and dried. Don't paint over rust. Nev
  18. It was in Sydney so condensation may have done the damage. Any shed that drips Moisture at Night will damage plating and Paint and electrics. AND your aeroplane too especially from a rusted surface with dust. The contents in this instance were restored Motorcycles and they were so badly affected as to be written off. I knew the Fellow involved. Nev
  19. I think it's mainly heat that has done the damage I'm referring to. Paint electrical Plastic and rubber. I can assure you I'm not making it up. Nev
  20. Fly to the Moon perhaps? I wouldn't fly lots of pax unless the organisation I'm working for Had good Insurance. Nev
  21. Way away from what RAAus was intended for. Do the People who just want simple flying have to share/carry the cost of this Empire building trend? Very expanded Liability compared with a singe seater. Every person you carry will Have People who will sue the $#!t out of you if someone is Injured or Killed. This New action will get all the attention and the basic Planes will get nothing. They will just be an annoyance to the NEW GA. Nev
  22. Store stuff in containers and It looks pretty Ordinary not long after. Nev
  23. Less people are prepared to spend money on flying. Also how many are active? You need to compare total Hours flown also. Nev
  24. He's the Bloke who keeps this show on the road, remember? Nev
