  1. With a folding blade? It's a cycling Off centre thrust Proposition . Has to impose unwanted Loads. Simply balancing with a counterweight doesn't take account of the Problem. 2 Blades are the simplest and strongest You won't get interference till you fine the Pitch right off like when taxing with a RR Dart . If you've been on one you will remember the Noise and the Kerosene smell in the cabin. Nev
  2. Lack of QA would lead to general unreliability possibly to quite a high degree particularly with regard to the Pressed up Crankshaft. IF it slips at ALL, it's cactus. The Later ones have a slight taper on the fit which is pretty hard to engineer accurately. Factory ONLY assembly. Nev
  3. It WAS done but more of a curiosity than a good PROP position. Nev
  4. I believe you, But He used to come to Lethbridge where I instructed and I'm a good Listener and People tell me stuff, and I've ALWAYS been Interested in Motors. Built and Modified and reconditioned LOTS of them. (and still doing it). Nev
  5. For Most engines, running with the Cowls off unless Just very Briefly is a NO NO. A thorough warm up for Most engines is about 45 Mins in the AIR. An engine is best Left Inhibited till Put in normal regular use. Nev
  6. He TOLD ME about a few things wrong with them. Anything made, worked on or operated by Humans IS NOT PERFECT. What a load of rubbish your Last Post IS.. Nev
  7. I though ANY reliable information might be helpful. Nev
  8. You don't hear about the Ones that do. I used to be Mates with Bert Flood. Lycomings need a TOP to get to TBO. Hardly major surgery. Hydraulic lifters need to be checked for Bleed down Clearance. Same type of Lifter as in a 9xx Rotax I don't like Hydraulic Lifters in ANY Aircraft motor. Better with Manually adjusted tappets then you KNOW when things are going wrong and they don't have to Pump up to be safe. Nev
  9. Get a Jeep. Nev
  10. I'm thinking of in a plane such as this is.. In a full motion sim which I have about 450 Hours in you certainly can't be in it without being strapped in securely. or you can be seriously injured but they don't crash and burn like the real thing can. In a crew checking detail in a jet airliner Its common to change Pilots to do about SIX one after the other. Nev
  11. Quite a few have been used successfully, even by twins when they ran out of fuel There's not always a lot of options. Beaches often have people on them, Roads have vehicles and overhead wires Paddocks look ok till you get up close. IF you land UP a slope you will stop quicker, but you need to think how you will flare. . Nev
  12. And Modify IT? I don't think so. Nor unless it has EXP in the registration. BrendAan this is supposed to be in the serious NOT OFF topic section, where a joke is not made of everything. Nev
  13. I Can't see why( IF he knew what He was doing) that He would come to grief EXCEPT IT's illegal. The Most "G" pulled would be in the recovery dive pullout and shouldn't exceed 2.5G in normal circumstances. It's NOT something I would EVER do as you never Know if you will encounter a Gust as well and the Plane is not stressed for it. You Must also think of the example you are setting . Nev
  14. Hard to believe. No engine is bulletproof and Immune from Fatigue. Nev
  15. Why are you directing that info to Me? I didn't come down in Yesterdays SHOWER. Speculation is flourishing. Ther's NO Black boxes. Nev
  16. The Impact effect would depend on the concentration and Temperature of the Blob. from A jelly to a Pot of Cold animal glue. "I like Aeroplane Jelly"? and the velocity of the Blade. Even a bucket of water Puts a great force on a Prop. Not sure about the efficacy of such a test. Props Have to LAST and be reliable. A chucked Blade will often mean the engine detaches. Nev
  17. Being intermittent Helps but in bright sunlight it's Not very effective. Bird Behaviour is Fairly unpredictable in My experience . I don't recommend flying LOW over swamps. Nev
  18. How you would ever confirm such a thing in this case is Beyond Me. It's also a bit odd to Have a PAX when you are Instructing some one. Nev
  19. You are NOT being Logical skip. Radio is "extra to" not instead of. Radio positions are often wrong, with poor or inexperienced operators, resulting in a More dangerous situation existing, because you are looking in the wrong place. Nev
  20. One of Mercedes Best race cars Pre war had a design life of 3000 Kms on the engine. An F1 would be fully rebuilt between Race events. Why would they Come Vast distances at great cost with a risk of failure in front of the whole World? Horses for Courses. Not a Lot of Takers for venturing into F1. Nev
  21. Anything that makes you More visible can't be a BAD thing. I think some strobes may cause radio interference, but I'm no expert . Nev
  22. I could NOT agree More, and I've been singing this song since the Mid 60's. As the Weather gets more angry bad outcomes will be More frequent. YOU MUST keep control of the Plane. ENGINE Power is your friend. IF your wings are stalled they won't do what they Must .You can be" NOT stalled" at quite Low speeds IF you unload the wings and the drag is reduced at the same time. Ground effect can help save your day In critical situations. Nev
