  1. I did give the office staff a 5 star rating early last week about how fast my licence came through. I have to give them another compliment today as well. Leanne I spoke to on Monday to get a copy of my weight and balance data that I submitted when I first registered my aircraft back in May as for some strange reason I could not find my copy here and it wasn't in my manual in the aircraft for some reason. I was sure I scanned it before I sent the originals away. Leanne told me on monday she would get to it when she could I also said I understand you are snowed under but when you can it would be nice but I can wait no problems. A scanned copy of all the weight and balance I sent down some 11 pages in total turned up in my email this afternoon which when you consider the pressure the admin staff are under at this time is really fantastic and I again have to thank her for a great job. Credit where it is due........The Board and Executive well as we know that is an entirely different matterMark

To blame the office staff in this would be crazy... Sort of like Holden laying people off because management..... oh wait... sort of like Qld Health laying front line staff off because management... oh sorry... Um... Ah....

Sorry had to add the first bit... I agree the office staff are not at all to blame... THEY ARE VICTIMS AS MUCH AS WE ARE AND HAVE AS MUCH TO LOOSE AS ANYONE IN MANY CASES MORE.

I am concerned by the fact that the office staff have time to be preparing and sending 11 page faxes to members at this time... The fact they have that time worries me more than if they had taken a month....

  2. The engine does not fold up in flight so presumeably the engine could be left on idle????Alan.

That would defeat the purpose... the noise and vibration I imagine would not make it much fun to soar. If it was practical for mechanical purposes which I don't believe it would be.

Regardless I do think this sort of aircraft even if you don't ever shut the engine down would be very useful. You could "Motor Tour" at low throttle settings with remarkable efficiency... With any luck we won't have to wait forever for a proper recreational gliding set of rules to fly under... I believe there is a lot of potential in this sort of flying and like seeing Garry going back to his roots with this machine... I reckon it will be his dream machine.

  3. You have to have rules, and they apply equally, whether you are liked or whether you are not. That seems pretty obvious.. NEV

This is the what got Ra-Aus into this whole mess in the first place... It seems that the Board has never had a proper understanding of "the rules". Remember the process of employing the last former Ops Manager? According to my member correspondence there was confusion regarding "the rules" during the simple process of employing someone... My opinion... given this the rot will be through the whole system... just naturally follows.

  4. Pretty offensive to those who know someone who has committed suicide by hanging themselves. Like the pilot in my company who did exactly that in his hotel room a while back after suffering severe depression for some time. You should probably be more careful how you word things.......

Extremism has become a massive problem in Australia over the last 10 years... In many parts of the culture (Nth Qld for example) this sort of attitude is pretty much standard in smoko rooms... The really ironic thing is the "members" of our society who have fallen to this mind set are usually the ones who are contributing to the decline with their blind ignorance and lack of empathy.... and their calls to stamp out "extremism" ...

  5. Perhaps he fell asleep and upon realizing he had a fatigue problem he took a Stimulant to effect a safe landing....??

I know... Crazy idea. Just putting it out there...Regardless I am guessing that the events leading up to the Airborne incident started on the ground well in advance and to just throw bigoted terms like "Junkie" or "Crackhead" around ... in fact to have them as part of your mental makeup... when having an adult discussion says more about the personality problems of the accuser rather than the accused...ive

Just my opinion based upon my personal experiences... No doubt that Illicit Drugs are a BIG problem in Australia. It thus reasonably can be assumed that they are a BIG problem in Australian Aviation.

  6. I have no sympathy for junkies, no and I don't believe this stuff is in legitimate pharmaceuticals. That's why he was sacked. And yes I'm very familiar with extremely long work hours.

You know... I shouldn't quote just Gnarly on this because a lot of you have the same affliction... Seriously... Stop talking guys... at least until you understand a little of what you are talking about... You guys do realize that "Over the Counter" drugs FACTUALLY cause more deaths and addiction in Australia than Illegal Drugs? I don't know where you guys get your ideas from??? The gutter press?

  7. Don't worry... The monster seems to really be awakening this time. Have been wrong before but it seems that when flying schools are giving out Urgent Members Meeting Request forms rather than Ra-Aus Membership forms something BIG is on the horizon for better or for worse... I don't think these matters will wait until next year.

  8. Carol has been there and I have supported her stand. I concur with her views. When Tizzard called her "that woman". he lost me forever.I was present at the board meeting when that was said . It's not an appropriate way to deal with an elected board member or anybody... period!!!! Nev

It is disgusting... what action did the Employer take against the Employee after this Gaff? At least a talking to officially I imagine? Is it on record?

  9. My reasoning behind creating localised Chapters was that these would be the places where members engaged in face-to-face networking. Just sitting around yarning about building and flying planes. You know, the grassroots of Recreational Aviation. The success or failure of an individual Chapter would have little effect on the whole Movement. Chapters tend to take care of the problem of empire builders in a volunteer organisation. Then as you move up to Sections, the meetings could deal matters which were of a more regional importance, but not necessarily of a statewide importance. And so on, up the chain. The only way to ensure the longevity of the RAAus as a national body is to make it strong at the local level. Remember, you can harvest lucerne several times over a season because once it has established a strong root system, the top will quickly grow back it it has been removed.

    Old Man Emu

IMO this structure is what is needed (it is what Ra-Aus was supposed to put in place from what I can gather) not so much for the governance of the organization but for the Operational side of things...

  10. Can anyone specifically post the facts regarding just what it is the Tech Managers Job entails.... I am guessing that it is not something that can be done alone... I have not heard much at all about Ra-Aus Regional Assistant Tech Managers or Maintenance Courses... I would have thought that these volunteer positions stopped being filled or are they out there?

  11. I thought in essence the whole basis of this new "certification" besides the factory paper work and design work which is as you say left up to their integrity...is about hours flown... if your aircraft is one of 120 in use around the world you hope the first factory example has more hours than your own... in this way we can have some comfort in the fact that the airframe is not likely to fail due to age related stress if used in accordance with the operators hand book...

Perhaps if it isn't it should be... nice and simple.

  12. I have a question for you guys.Where are the flying clubs in all this debacle ?

Surely they represent more people and can put more pressure on the board or regional reps of RA-Aus as they should have a louder voice than any one individual?

Or am I incorrectly assuming that you have a similar club setup to France and the UK....?

    .

You are incorrect in assuming Oz has a club structure... it should have but a few years ago the club side was pushed aside by CFI Owned/Run Commercial Flying Schools. IMO this has been obvious and is the direct cause of these problems.

  13. Things must be different in Perth. In Brisbane/Toowoomba, there are a few standout drivers of a decent standard and truckloads of useless ones. Also the ones with the burning rubber and the one who take up two spaces are two completely separate demographics (young fool and older Subaru Forester/Statesman driver respectively).

That was my point about culture... the older folk are the parents of the young rubber burners.

  14. Wow! Now there is a possibility. Fly by wire technology is getting much more reliable in RC aircraft... an aircraft such as the Monerai would need a couple (per surface...all doubled or more for redundancy) of high torque super dooper RC servos... with a fly by wire system in the cockpit... I wouldn't do it myself but it IS doable with todays technology without spending a fortune even.... just a matter of time I guess.
