  1. Affordable flying will always be popular... If only the "Industry" would recognize this and provide suitable aircraft accordingly...

I will provide a quote from 2011 SPORT PILOT Magazine from the 'Boss' at a popular Aussie aircraft manufacturer...

"Our market is changing from flying enthusiasts to turn key pilots. There is a lot of competition now with over 100 other Light Sport Aircraft manufacturers as well as an ever growing array of "boys toys" competing for the dollar once the family has left home and the mortgage paid"...

Once the family has left home and the mortgage paid......Hmmm

That doesn't describe most of the people I know who are wanting to fly... and the GFC or whatever comes next has or will put paid to a generation that has the capacity to buy an aeroplane off "retirings"... I reckon someone is reading the market wrong and what is really needed are proper affordable ultralight flying machines within the simple framework of the older "ultralight" regulations...

    Am I crazy?

  2. Forgot to add... I LOVE the Seabee... BUT... I would like one better with more HP.

They are incredible in the airframe department but all that weight apparently costs performance... the cockpit/cabin is like no other aircraft I had seen... The passengers can walk up to the front window and open it (not in flight of course!)

Here is a Youtube channel with lots of Seabees flying... http://www.youtube.com/user/AeroportStHyacinthe/videos?query=seabee

  3. According to this aircraft is in McKay, wonder if it's still there?

There was one in Mackay... I was taken away a couple of years ago.

When I was about 11, was on holidays with the family in Mission Beach when a Seabee landed(with some damage), taxied up to the Pub at North Mission Beach and parked in the Car Park... I believe it basically fell into disrepair unloved over the next few years... it may have been the same aircraft that was in Mackay... surely they can't be that common that I saw two of this rare bird!

  4. I am guessing that we can conclusively say that the IBIS won't be 19 registered... I am at a loss to understand how it is currently.

For registration of a homebuilt aeroplane under this section, there are, in general, five conditions that must be met - they are:

    1. The aeroplane is an ultra light aircraft, where a person has built the majority part of it themselves, and for the sole purpose of that person’s education or recreation.

  5. It is a real shame IMO that Ra-Aus has gone after higher MTOWs, more Airspace access, and the rest rather than go for a simple factory built single seat sportmans aircraft class... something that you could fly away for no more than say $30 000 from the factory. Something that flying schools could buy as a second aircraft(or get two for the price of one LSA) and hire at reasonable rates to P plate pilots to build hours... I might be crazy but I reckon there would be a market.

  6. Thanks dazza, saved me a trip to the airport.

Crikey GAFA! I have flown both... of course Toe is the preference but don't let that put you off please... Aircraft such as the Texan have handle brakes (a factory option I would not choose if I were the purchaser of a new aircraft)... but regardless of the brakes option you won't find a nicer handling and flying aircraft than the Texan IMO. I think they both work...
