If anyone else has received one of these please speak up... This is VERY serious if OUR money was used to do this.I have just received a letter from Middleton, the RAAus Secretary, the same as what is on the RAAus web site together with a Proxy form and a no stamp required envelop to send it back.-

Good info from Paul... Glad the Piles are improving.

I can't be certain... But I have read several accounts that give the initial design to Max Tedesco, with Chris Heintz coming into the picture later on and claiming the design as his own.Surely that should be Chris Heintz ...... since he created the 701 long before.. -
I am given to understand that all the Savanah/701 etc alikes (and there are a lot of them) are originally from the pen of one designer, Max Tedesco...I believe that BRM were at one time an importer for the Zenair CH701, and they decided to "improve it" and make their own version. I also hear that ICP did something similar to create the Savannah..http://www.recreationalflying.com/threads/origin-of-701-and-savannah-designs.25571/#post-149795

I am hearing that perhaps MONTO (the home of the best Aussie Fly-In) may have been very seriously affected. Not good.

EXACTLY!!!Yep too many different types for the Tech man to handle. But it is tough for people trying to put food on the table but then some of these same people have been pushing for LSA, heavier, faster and various things that make administration a heavier work load, maybe they did it to themselves? It would appear the board is not up to running what we now have.-

Since when has Ra-Aus been about supporting a Commercial Industry? I thought Ra-Aus was a members organization? IMO this focus on the "Commercial" side of things is a big part of what caused this problem.

The only thing I have received from Ra-Aus in the last 12 months (besides my magazine and notice of EGM) is my renewal notice... What I do with it depends upon the outcome of this meeting.

Bloody well said AlfaRomeo... !!!

Your facts are based upon a fallacy and that is a fact not my opinion... Any Aircraft is the sum of its design. As far as I am concerned I stated facts and you stated opinions but that is just my opinion. If all the qualities you state for Taildraggers were true a Goodyear Racer with a tailwheel would make a better short and rough field performer than say a Savanah with tri-gear.
I agree the skill set required for Taildraggers is of a higher order than flying a Tri-gear in a general sense... but overall and by the same basis then an F-18 or a 737 must be a breeze to land... as long as one has Taildragger experience.
Each to their own and I personally hope to have the Taildragger qualification in my logbook one day... just because all the Pilots who I hold in the highest esteem flew Taildraggers. They also used to have the same argument as has gone on in this thread... but they all took it with a grain of salt and played it as a friendly form of ribbing without letting their ego get in the way... and this to me is the MOST important skill a Pilot can possess. A strong sense of self without the need to put ego before all regardless of which type of aircraft they flew.
-
Not really a valid argument. Not many of our aircraft tuck away 3 wheels mostly they drag them through the air. Tailwheel planes are superior to nosewheels in all ways, they have less drag, they are lighter, they are stronger and they can handle shorter rougher airstrips. There has been an ongoing bravado shown in regards to Taildraggers for many years. The best pilots in my opinion although they may give a friendly ribbing know, based upon sense (that is not so common today and never really was it seems), that this argument is really out of date and based upon Ego rather than facts.
Regarding sailplane pilots... Facts are facts... and the ability to truly and intimately know the medium we fly in can not be underestimated IMO. Not saying all Sailplane Pilots are better than Power Pilots, just as not all Tailwheel Pilots are better than Tri-gear Pilots... but you surely would become a better all round Pilot with experience in all of the above.

I reckon Sailplane Pilots trump us all.

They already do this... it is included in all membership renewals. They just don't use it... except to apparently attempt to gag further openness and communication as evidenced by a couple of claims I have seen recently.Move a motion:-That RAAus develop a email list for dissemination of RAAus news items - as a method of board communicating issues arising to members. A "member's advice" page advising members of the board/executive's intention to communicate and asking members permission to be included in the email list shall be included in the magazine, the members response to be returned by email to RAAus office.Purpose of the motion:-
To allow RAAus permission to contact members by email.
To establish an instantaneous communication path to all (or at least the majority of) members.
To promote regular updates within the RAAus community, thereby minimising mis-information and rumours.
To allow any board member's voice to reach the membership, either individually or as a group, so long as they take individual responsibility for their email content.

Perhaps yours would Turbo. Mine (to be) lives in the real world where men are men and take responsibility for their own actions rather than try to lay blame on others. Oh... and what bloody estate???!!! If you have an "Estate" maybe it is prudent to stick to the plastic fantastics and it's complications with all the BS that goes with it.Your widow will sue your estate, and there goes all that money you had promised to the cat protection society, or your aircraft will catch fire on impact, and the fire will spread to neighbouring properties doing five million dollars worth of damage, and you'll have to work it off. -
Insurance??? WTF???
Who needs Insurance if it is only your own bum in the seat and your aircraft costs less than $20k and is flown away from built up areas?
Sure this may not be applicable to the faster, fancier aircraft but what happened to the idea of a few mates hanging out, having fun and taking their own risks?

Thanks for sharing guys.
I salute you!

Ironically EVERYTHING some members feared, and tried to warn about and fix before it got out of hand, has happened. The silence here is deafening. What a bloody mess!

Alan Carr's book is certainly a good read... I didn't complete it ... yet... and haven't quit... yet.
Isn't one of the ideas that we think a smoke calms our nerves... when in fact being a drug addict makes you constantly nervous. Getting a "hit" makes you feel as if you are calmer. Makes perfect sense having seen this with Heroine addicts... no different to Tobacco addicts.

So we have option B...Got an email about it this evening. Apparently the board still hasn't approved the job description. Seems they are dragging the chain. Why would you authorise an recruitment campaign and not have everything in order before you go live?!?Be nice to have some understanding of what is going on. Jim? John? Gavin (god forbid...)?"they" have made another hash of it.

Also IMO of VERY serious concern is the fact that Paul Middleton has posted all of the Board Members Addresses online. Did all the Board Members agree to this? I know that the phone numbers are available on the Ra-Aus website but I personally would feel a bit "odd" about having my physical home address spread about in such a cavalier fashion.
I am amazed that someone has said don't underestimate them... You have got to be kidding!!! Surely this is the end of the line?
