Good work Rocketeer.

True...Thanks for that Bruce. Nice to get some balance after some of the miss information seen on this thread. How long ago was that course run now? And what sort of follow up has there been with the participants?
-
Of course... Past behaviour is not at all forgiven... I hope not forgotten.
-
Regardless... It certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth... Maybe this is all a white wash... But this to me is the Crux of it.. It seems that there is some sort of break down here... I mean it is time to lay ALL the cards on the table... I have no doubt that the last 2 years have been hard on ALL Board Members... Factions may have been formed... It is time to move beyond that and face reality... HQ....based upon detailed discussion with people who claim to have seen "inside"... is a miss mash. It is certainly not the Office Staffs Fauilt... And the CEO says it is not his responsibility!!! But he has resigned... And Ra-Aus has no idea or plan on who or how to go about employing one because... like I said.... MISS MASH. Am I correct or not? Can anyone confirm that it is just work overload or do the office have to spend 2 weeks searching through all the BS to just employ someone??? What gives?
People are seriously worried about their livelihoods here.!!!
I may not be one of them but it has gone beyond a simple meeting in February and get it all sorted out type of deal to these people... Something needs to change...
It is certainly good to hear that there are members in Canberra helping sort the mess.... Either way the paperwork is going to have to be put in order at HQ... So you guys are true champions for helping get it ready.

-
I find it appalling... We have only scratched the surface of the BS that has occurred. I can't see how it isn't going to end up in the hands of lawyers. People who seem to truly know what has gone on are literally crxxxing themselves about the future prospects of the organization....
I believe there is a pretty good record of many of the events.... if any of the rumours are true I think the Executive and pretty much most of the Board (sorry I don't want to single any one out- you good one should truly know who you are) are in way over their heads and may be digging themselves a serious legal pile of trouble...
-
How would you feel if you had a problem with say... the Committee for your Child's day care and say that half a dozen or so of those committee members were Freemasons? Would it affect your perception of their judgement and impartiality?
-
Just a little thread to ask who amongst us Aviators is also a Freemason?
I was initiated into Heather Lodge No.221 UGLQ at the age of 21...
Are you or do you know of any other Freemasons within Ra-AUS?

I have posted a thread that purports to contain an e-mail from the president to the Board that DOES NOT align at all with the claims made in the minutes by the Exec regarding Board Insurance...
IMO they as good as outright lied to the membership.

It is proof of an outright attempt to mislead the membership at the AGM...

I am going to post this... This is not an accusation... Just some information I was forwarded anonymously.
I post it here to make up your own minds...
The E-mail claims to be from the Ex-President Mr Runcimann...

URGENT
Hi Gents,
Bad news I am afraid. The insurance became due on 30 Apr 12. The paperwork was completed and sent to the brokers which was then sent on to the insurance company. We have temporary cover from the expiry of the of the old insurance up until the acceptance of our insurers subject to certain terms and conditions. Basically, on the renewal proposal it asks if there is anything pending that may have an effect on us being re-insured. Obviously at the time the paperwork was signed and sent in we declared that there was nothing pending. However, on renewal date (30 Apr 12) they were informed that we had discovered something. Rob Viney is certain that because this was declared before the renewal time (4pm on 30 Apr 12) we have insurance cover for this incident but he cannot guarantee it.
The really bad news is that as at today he cannot guarantee that we have insurance cover. The reason for this is that when the insurance company are fully briefed on the current circumstance they may refuse to cover us which means that the insurance lapsed at 4pm on 30 Apr 12 and from that time and date we are not covered. However, they may decide to renew in which case we are covered. It is up to you to decide the possibility of them agreeing to cover us.
Bottom line is that, as at today, it cannot be guaranteed that we have Directors liability insurance cover.
No doubt I will be hearing from a number of you very shortly.
Regards,
Steve”
And here now is the Minutes of the AGM... Is this an outright lie or are they just confused???
2. RA-Aus have previously faced difficulties in obtaining liability insurance cover for the Board
and the Staff. With the full knowledge of the previous difficulties, it is alleged the CEO
allowed the insurance cover to get within a few working days of expiry before submitting
the paperwork to the Broker for the renewal process. As might be expected it took around
a month for the insurance cover to be obtained. During that month, there were periods
when the cover was provided only by the good grace of the insurer and there were periods
when there was zero cover. It is further alleged that the lack of insurance and the potential
liability to Board members individually was a significant factor in the resignation of at least
one of the competent Board members and potentially a factor in the resignation of another.
Comment: I am not sure where Mr Isaac got his information from but it will be shown that much of
the information provided by Mr Isaac is wrong. Mr Isaac is correct that RA-Aus has and will
continue to face difficulties in obtaining insurance, it is the nature of our business. As I have
previously explained to the board, the CEO answered the renewal paperwork when it was received
from the insurance broker. There was a period of, from memory, 5 days lapse between receiving it
and answering it but this includes a weekend and the fact that the CEO was not in office for a
number of days. The CEO and Administration Manager have a meeting at least once a year with
our insurance broker to go through the insurance in detail. It was not the fact that the CEO had
made a mistake and had left it too late that the insurance company saw fit to provide a cover note.
The insurance company were considering our insurance in fine detail and while these
considerations were ongoing they provided cover for that period.
There was never a period when cover was not in place.
So... At the AGM the Board tells us "THERE WAS NEVER A PERIOD WHEN COVER WAS NOT IN PLACE"
Yet his own e-mail allegedly tells us that " the insurance lapsed at 4pm on 30 Apr 12 and from that time and date we are not covered...Bottom line is that, as at today, it cannot be guaranteed that we have Directors liability insurance cover."

Someone must have a FIRM answer on this... given that it is pivotal to the coming EGM...Could someone (besides asking my Member because obviously he has a firm opinion on this) tell me if Steve Runciman IS currently still our North Qld Board Rep? This is soooooooo messy.... -

My Opinion...
This whole talk of Ra-Aus Aircraft and "Certification" is in my opinion pointless without a simple and cheap system of certification. To my mind a simple system would suffice... The Factory builds a "fleet" and flies them... and if the original fleet has more hours than your factory built aeroplane you are "certified".... If not you are "experimental"... the popularity would depend upon the aircraft having a long faultless service life... i.e. the more in service the better the safety data for the pilot in command and Pax to self-"certify" themselves... Common sense prevails... Of course all that goes without saying... I want a Virgin Lame wth a couple a homebuilt aircraft under his belt to go over any aeroplane model I am going to fly in a simple no strings arrangement with the importer with those first models... The systems should be in place....

We wouldn't have known about it.... WAIT!!! Most members still don't. And in my experience your Board Member just denies it's existence???!!!Got the numbers up to overturn the confidentially rubbish that unfortunately reappeared-

EAA chapters perform the "Big Brother" function in the States... Pockets of these sort exist in Australia. But again it is not widespread and it means nothing if Ra-Aus has befuddled the paper trail.
-
I completely agree MM... Problem is our membership ballooned with people who were presented with the "New GA" Style of flying... Seems not too many people happy to "self certify" or to put it another way... take the damn risk upon themselves... and many are unaware that this was exactly what made the sport affordable.First of all, you do not have to be involved with SAAA in any way to build and register a home built aircraft, secondly the reason we have the home built fraternity is so that people can have the joy ( frustration) of building and flying something they have created, and thirdly ,nearly everyone I've talked to laments the fact that we are completely over governed in this country, when I started on the RV6 I rang CASA to be sure that I could actually build my own aeroplane , guess what he said YES, how friggin awesome, I can do this at home ,build it, test fly it, and if it kills me then so be it , but I have been given the right to do something and take total responsibility for the out come . It seems to me that this is almost the last place I can think of where the guvmint will let you risk your own life and leave you alone to do ( perhaps yachting inter country) so please there is a lot of stuff wrong but please don't start to complain about a bit of freedom we still have-

I do believe there are hotspots of very qualified LAME's around who do know their stuff and have their fingers on the pulse... We can't tar the whole system with the same brush.
Problem as I see it is that they aren't widespread around the whole of the Ra-Aus fleet... And of course as we are seeing a lot of the paperwork at Ra-Aus is a mess.
-
Everyone who is at Ra-Aus Central at Canberra at the moment. Isn't this in essence the problem. My take on what I see is this...Their records don't record any of this accurately... regardless of whether new regos are going through a lot will run into a brick wall.Just who is certifying RAAus airplanes as being fit for registration and hence fit to be flown? -
I reckon it wouldn't make too much difference in calm conditions when you can land at 20 knots.Maj, how convenient is the little latch if you don't remember to UN-flick it before landing? -
I want Santa to bring me a Lazair for Xmas. Please.

I have no issue with the Fees but believe both GA and Ra registers should NOT be public information.

I think you misunderstand what I am saying Steve... I am saying that the CASA requirement has not been met... keeping quite on this is not going to change the fact...I dont think this type of talk is doing anyone any favors or your priviledge to fly under the current delegated CASA Administrator RAAUZ any good at all, in fact this will damage our right to fly, something that many have worked hard for years to achieve. we will be back to 95-10 single seat and 300ft AGL ALT limit if this type of behaviour continues. As for LAMES and L2 maintainers both maintain education on types they work on it is a perpectual learning environment. as it should be, methods and materials change as does the faults that are detected, the majority by far are dedicated to safety and good work , they would also read these forums I also suspect they would take note of who says what and black list them for any work, I hope they do as it is Insurance is High cost I am sure this sort of slagging would affect these cost including hull insurance if they believe what they read posted by some. Lets work toward positive improvement ok we failed Audits it is being fixed, humans make errors RAAUZ is ours look after it, This is the only way forward, I hope this will make sence to some or will all will end up with large expensive garden ornaments, bugger the spelling check i will just post it as is. Happy Flying SteveI am not saying that the maintainers, regardless of their LAME status or otherwise are at fault. I am saying that the processes at Ra-Aus head office are at fault. I do not believe that ANY issue currently facing Ra-Aus indicate a safety issue... rather a compliance one.
-
Rubbish. That may be what the rules say. I can assure you they are being floated... If Ra-Aus had of audited they would know. You can't get an L2 from a weekend course. The training you speak of is for further education. You need references from at least two others such as a LAME before being issued an L2.If what you quote is what CASA requires then we really are much deeper in the poo than even I thought. Basically a BIG chunk of the fleet is non-compliant.
-
I think what TP is saying is that a lot (most?? I wonder what the figures are..) of the L2s maintaining the Ra-Aus fleet are not LAMEs.the L2 is a weekend course, Steve Bell was in Clifton doing the course in 2010? L2 isn't a LAME though.
