Listen guys... you gotta understand that this is not a new development. Some of the "regulars" on this forum have been trying to bring this to light for years... Has anyone forgotten what the Executive tried to do to Ian just recently by refusing him membership? The personal attacks in the form of "just a small group of troublemakers" comments from many sides regarding many of us who have been trying to bring this to light?
Emotions are going to run high... I know I am pretty appalled to read the naivety shown by many members regarding this matter.

Nothing to do with the AGM... After all the decisions they took all that time to make and paying outside contractors big dollars to perform the upgrade... it all fell through and a current member fixed it over the last few months on his own time just because he is a good bloke.A lot seems to have been improved since the AGM though so maybe someone stoked the fire.-

I guess I will say it like this....
If the membership don't know what the leadership are supposed to be doing... they could be doing the complete opposite.

This was why I rolled my eyes...Legally RAAus are NOT responsible for recreational accident investigations. They can only assist in preparing a report to the coroner when asked to do so by the police.Such conclusion reports as are available can be found at http://dev.raa.asn.au/safety/accident-investigationsCheers
John
Nothing intended at anyone posting here but at the moment Ra-Aus are in trouble with CASA for their Rego Housekeeping... and then we come to threads like this where members (I am guessing some of you guys are members) let alone the general public somehow gets the idea that Ra-Aus is responsible for this stuff... Communication seems to have gotten lost somewhere. It seems that a lot of people assume that GA standards apply...-

That is exactly why I am think that February may be too late for some serious action... As much as I understand that we must not act in haste. I guess the only option at this point is to plan for February.. but I can't see potentially 1000 aircraft owners amoung only 13000 being happy with that...
-
Waiting until February is too late IMO... I know it takes time but I just don't see that as realistic. The crisis is NOW.

Perhaps the AUF as it was intended can still be saved? My granddad had a good saying for situations like this"As useless as tits on a bull"If we have to go to VH rego then it would be a shame to see Middo lose his -001 number for the Drifter.

I stood up... My member didn't seem to understand the question. Very disappointed to say the least. The real shame of this is that Steve is a good bloke I believe... I just don't get where he has been coming from?John, I also want to thank you and Nick for the work you do under circumstances where you would be copping the collective blame.Qld Members should be stepping up and personally reinforcing what you say, and that will have an overall impact. -
It is good to hear your opinion Herm... But to blame "fools" who "keep talking bad about our hobby" although perhaps your gut instinct... the facts are that this issue with Ra-Aus didn't just arise overnight... IMO if more members had taken some time to stand up and voice an opinion things may have been saved. Regardless of what we fly... There is a framework that needs to exist to cultivate a culture of safety... This can exist without harming anyone right to fly IMO and should. This framework broke... and has been left running at full throttle for a few years allowing this mess to happen...Who knows what the reason or result will be. Maybe something simple or something really bad for us all. It could be an example of what happens when fools keep talking bad about our hobby. Some of the comments on this site about plane and engine types has done none of us any good. RaAus has been bagged as well as people in the office. When will some of the idiots start to understand the damage they do with all the negative postings. Do they think staff from CASA or the public don't read the comments? I am sure other factors also dont help, and many out of our control. However as Pilots we should be doing all we can to assist each other for the betterment of our hobby. I started in this game well before we had an RaAus or AUF, and many people pushed hard to get us to this point. We have had it pretty good. Now I see some of the negative posters all whooping on about this new situation. Let's hope that none of this is the case... Or some of those people will need to hide their own heads in shame. That's my sayMardy
I just hope the old AUF can be saved out of this... it was unique IMO.

I see nothing that surprises me sadly... I have been of the opinion for some time that we were sold out. Nothing here IMO is happening by chance... I reckon our former Ops and Tech Managers have all the framework in place ready for us all at CASA... I can;t help but feel they knew exactly what was coming when they left Ra-Aus... Perhaps a "Writing on the wall" sort of moment...

You could potentially build an Onex for a little more than $20k? They claim to go 120knots plus but I am not sure if you would want to...
For $20k you will only get 70knots max... lol

Does the paperwork problem go as far back as when the current CASA staff were with Ra-Aus?
-
This has been discussed years ago... disseminated fully on this site... The odds are that these ex Ra Aus ops personnel didn't go to CASA "by accident"...
-
Apparently these Tiger Cub 440 Ultralight Biplanes were popular kits in Europe... Even folds its wings to fit on a trailer.
-
It is not just paperwork Ozzie... its oversight.

Go fly models for a bit... I agree... You won't get aviation out of your blood that easily. That is dying talk for pilots.I know how you feel Pete...I am going through another one of those stages myself at the moment. The point is, you don't have to leave the ground to enjoy the passion. Why not, if you can spare some cash on a decent PC...set up a Flight Sim at home and forget about real world flying for a little bit...have some fun using a Sim with MS Flight Sim or X-Plane until the urge to get back up there comes back again.-

You are right Frank on one point Frank... Not very appropriate. Sorry you feel that way.

The Mucha in the old footage is the single seat cousin to the Bocian I believe... Sailplanes stopped having any real character after 1968ish IMO.
The other real shame is there is no Ra-Aus comparable category for simple sailplanes... Wouldn't it be nice to have a Modern Grunau Baby equivalent on a trailer to tow behind your car... which you then use to auto tow your sailplane.

Off topic... but ironic and I am guessing I may cop some flak for saying this...An engine failure should be an eventuality the pilot manages by careful maintenance and flying practices. However engine failures can occur even to the most risk averse of people.. Vale Terry Kronk...On the day Terry Kronk died a Youtube video appeared on my "feed" showing a beautiful experimental P51 Mustang being flown by the builder... I watched it and it was very impressive... but I did think "He doesn't leave himself much option for an engine failure"... Later that day I learned the video was of Terry Kronk.
Just saying... even the most risk averse are basically "forced" to take risks if we wish to fly... or not if we all just stayed home. As an example... many airstrips are not overly long... many are surrounded by bush.... Do we as pilots not operate out of these airstrips?
Again... off topic... Sorry. I guess it relates to the issue of relying upon our engines rather than always flying as if it is about to stop... Does anyone really do it 100% of the time...

Recreational Flying IMO owes so much to Edmund and Harry Schneider... they were Australia's first recreational aircraft factory.

Is that the everyday price for a 582?

But... I get the strong impression that Ra-Aus does. Perhaps the grounding are still just the tip of the iceberg? Not saying anyone is doing anything particularly unsafe... just that perhaps Ra-Aus has much less of a clue then they or CASA are aware...?You all need to read your current mag ( sports flyer) the information is in there. You are not able to change a 24 aircraft to 19... Period! -
Touche... We haven't all become extremists Downunder.Your kidding......right?

Good on you John for stepping up as a board member and letting us know what is going on.
But please don't ask us to support the clowns who were running the show when this situation was bought about... they aren't deserving of a clap on the back. Fixing this issue is the least they can do...It is what we paid an office staff and a CEO for all these years... IMO
