How much does a Ventus cost Bruce? Seems to be a bloody expensive sport these days, at least when it comes to buying new Sailplanes. I have noticed you can still pick up some reasonably prices older sailplanes like Libele's... Yours isn't old GTX by any chance is it?
I would give up this power flying if only there was a club near me like a shot. Sailplane solo is on the top of my bucket list.

We really screwed up as there didn't we Turbo? Most of them are too busy texting each other and posting crap on Facebook.I reckon this generation of parents needs to say enough and take back our responsibilities for raising our own children... hard to do with both parents being required to work in order to fill the ever increasing tax burden required to feed the corporate machine the preceding generations put in place.

[in other words, there's a vacant market slot right now./QUOTE]
Agree totally... I think that this is where the real market is. The self-funded retiree is a dying breed... and the last of their kind.
If someone wants to sell LOTS of aeroplanes they need to be marketed to younger people who can afford them NOW... Not the small number of older retired folks, a market which won't exist to any where near the degree that it does today over the coming years.

This is a big part of the problem... The magazine has been used as a one sided political mouthpiece.I was saying what happened based on my memory from what I recall reading in the magazine quite a while back.-

How much did they pxxx up against the wall against all advice to pay the original contractor??? Bas Scheffers offered to do it for the same fee he is charging now at the beginning.
You may have most of the facts correct Error... but you left out the part about how the Board made a complete hash of it and then Bas stepped in to save their bacon... absolutely nothing to do with any good management from the board... move like the good will and upstanding actions of a fine upstanding member who has made a contribution way above and beyond... and I would be willing to lay money on the fact that he is not happy with the Executive... I vote BAS for President!!!

I just watched a brilliant old black and white movie called "The Flying Irishman"...
Bloody amazing story based upon real events and starring the real Douglas Corrigan himself... The flying scenes were brilliant... some dodgy looking models... BUT also featuring flying and cockpit footage of the one and only SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS of which Douglas Corrigan was one of the builders as well as some beautiful live flying scenes featuring original Jenny's, other classic US Biplanes of the era and his Curtis Wright Monoplane which over the years he modified extensively, even building his own motor from 2x Wright Whirlwinds for a much greater output of 165hp. The then new Civil Aviation regulators in the US refused to give his machine an airworthy... and the rest is history, although one you don't hear so much about.
Below is an quote from The Adventures of Wrong-Way Corrigan about this amazing and dogged aviator...
"When 31-year-old Douglas Groce Corrigan took off from Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Field on July 17, 1938, in a modified Curtiss Robin, he carried two chocolate bars, two boxes of fig bars, a quart of water and a U.S. map with the route from New York to California marked out. Corrigan, who had spent three years trying to get permission to fly from New York to Dublin, had been told that he could fly nonstop from New York to California, but an ocean crossing was out of the question. It was a foggy morning. Corrigan flew into the haze and disappeared. Twenty-eight hours later, he landed in Dublin and instantly became a national hero."

I second that Ozzie... Please... Someone ask the question.Q: And when can we expect your resignation? One extra for Middo.
Please explain how you obtained the 19-001 registration when it was already allocated to another aircraft that was under a historical rebuild when the then rule did not allow transfer of numbers. And why did the board change that ruling after my complaint to you on both the 19-001 and the 10-001 rego taken from a Scout, again undergoing restoration and being allocated to the then President Muir's aircraft.
Members if the opportunity arises in the future it would be respectful to the 'grass roots' side to have them placed back on their correct aircraft.
ozzie
It is my opinion that this sort of question goes to the very heart of the matter and goes a long way to explain the actions today of some on the Board.

THIS... is something that can be followed up upon at the coming EGM.We had the opportunity last year to have our accident investigations come under the ATSB who would have given 30 day preliminary reports. Our Board Exec and the CEO failed to follow up on the offer and it has probably lapsed by now. -
I reckon you are right Kaz...I honestly think that if the situation with RAAus isn't sorted at this meeting a lot of people will walk away in disgust. Kaz-

We should all find it alarming that Public Servants over the last 30 years have taken such a flippant attitude to their work... and more alarming that they can be so flippant about the whole thing publicly. It is public money and if this is not a very, very tongue in cheek comment then I reckon you need to go out the back and give yourself a good upper-cut to the chin on behalf of us Victim Taxpayers that you screwed over and who are now paying for your "Service". Heck...even if it is tongue in cheek it bloody stinks.
From my 30 years experience in the public service the usual response to audits is either (a) ignore it as no one cares; (b) change the rules so your existing processes would become compliant; © attack the audit as raising only insig or minor issues; (d) only as a last resort change your processes to be compliant.-

I did like the choice music... and thought that this was a bloody masterful mix to the footage... the timing and the mood of the music fits much better than most Youtube clips I have seen. Must have taken some serious thought and brilliant timing with the editing... Bloody well done with that. Awesome work. Really was quite impressively done ...

BUT... I still prefer to hear the Aviation noises in my Youtube clips... Perhaps you could stick the individual circuits up with the original noise on their own as well?

Funny thing is... If it was a Nuclear Bomb we would all believe it!
Very strange propaganda game being played here from all sides.
-
Just not the same with me making my own Aeroplane noises... which I prefer to hear on Aviation videos.Regarding the music - do what I do, kill the volume!Still very nicely done.

I wonder who signed the Rego of on this one?

We have good reason to be totally pxxxed of Ross... I for one was relieved when we voted our then new North Queensland Board Rep in several years ago because the problems we have now were becoming very obvious and it was my naive belief that with his background he would be just the sort of person who would be able to cut through the BS and sort it out.
Well.... How wrong were we???!!!

The Rec Flying Site was selling tents last year for $14.99... I bought one there and at that price left it behind after the show with another camper who drove to save space in Maj's Lightwing.
I volunteered with the organizers and would thoroughly recommend the experience... the marshal station is airconditioned and a great place to escape the heat after you have put in some time helping... and it is a LOT of fun with a great bunch of people.

Where are the physical addresses of Board Members previously available?Settle please, those email addresses are well and truly pulic knowledge. As are their phone numbers. We should all take a step back and look at what these accusations are actually doing other than causing everyone angst. There is absolutely no privacy breach whatsoever in using or publicizing them. -
casa are there to help raa solve the problems casa dont want to shut down raa they just want them to follow the rules
Crashley... I am confused by your opposing posts....I am saying the oposite that if the board gets kicked out casa will shut down raaWhat are you confused about?

If not for this forum you would (or perhaps you still do???!!!getting sick and tired of all this crap I thought this forum was about flying and not attacking the board every 2nd post
) think that all is hunky dory at Ra-Aus Headquarters... perhaps you would not even be aware of the serious compliance breaches that led to the Audit failure....s.I am amazed that people will take the time to attack this forum but not take the time to defend their flying privileges. Incredibubble!!!

Last year shuttle buses were available, regular and well run... You should be able to book a powered camping site...
Hope you enjoy...

I am not renewing at this point in time... Not as things are.... Not when I have a family... Not when I don't own an aircraft.More interesting is the question - how many won't renew, or will think about not renewing membership ? That's potentially real scary.I just hope that in future there is an organization to re-join and they allow me to.

A great read!...........
