  1. Lucky they did not enter a low level stall spin in an attempt to "save" the aircraft. Don't have to be very high to die in such an event.
  2. The SkyEcho2 battery life is pretty good, one charge about half way would get you to Perth in your 140knot machine. Charge when you can on the ground you will be fine.
  3. Think it was at night. Hard to see a stationary aircraft on the runway against the runway lights.
  4. Is this Tell us about your last flight or the electrical power distribution forum, 25 replies so confusing.
  5. Agree with the adsb bit. To have all vfr octa aircraft in the Sydney basin on one frequency in the hope that those 10 or 20 or 30 aircraft will be able to arrange any kind of separation is ludicrous.
  6. He was 4 hours into the flight with about 1 hour to go at speed he was going. Fuel would have been tight. A stop a Moruya for some fuel and a weather reset may have been prudent.
  7. Canola flowers can be aborted by frost or dryness. If every thing goes right there is a pod for each flower. A pod typically has about 20 seeds so lots more seeds than flowers. 1 kg of Canola contains about 120,000 seeds, crushed this produces about 420ml of oil per kg. Typical yield is about 2000kg per hectare. So there is about 160,000 litres of oil in that field plus the by product which is high protein animal feed.
  8. Had a very nice fly in the thruster following 61mm of rain on the canola. Money falling from the sky, the joy of farming.
  9. In the 787 which was the aircraft type involved, bleed air is not used. Electric compressors are used. A smell coming from such a system would be very unusual.
  10. Unfortunately the cause of crashes following canopy or door opening in flight is pilots not continuing to fly the aircraft. In nearly all cases the aircraft is perfectly capable of continuing flight. There will be a big startle factor and maybe an unusual stick position and force required to keep control. There are many reports available on line from surviving pilots of RV, Lancair, Beech bonanza and baron etc so one can get an idea of what to expect from a certain aircraft type.
  11. Be interesting to know how water got in the hydraulic oil tank, expensive mistake.
  12. Don't see how it was the autopilot. The track makes no sense. There are multiple ways of disabling the auto pilot.
  13. Airtractor 502 that was involved in a fatal bird strike accident.
  14. Chinese car maker BYD is sending a message to other hyper car makers and possibly the USA were they are not permitted to sell cars atm I believe.
  15. Garbage to sell a news paper.
  16. There are many types of retract mechanisms and safetysystems, none are fool proof. The main benefit of RG in low horse power aircraft is to provide work for LAMEs.
  17. He might have to get a Cirrus.
  18. 28nm of water on the direct route. I am guessing your sonex will glide about 2nm per thousand feet of altitude. Crossing near Point Lowly would only add 16nm to the leg which is only a short one anyway.
  19. I think this pilots decision to fly over water just to avoid having to re fuel at forrest is very silly. Tracking coastal would only add 13 minutes @134tas to the Ceduna-Esperence leg. If the fuel is that tight you need to go to Forrest anyway. Ending up in the water in a canopy aircraft like a DA40, RV or Bristell etc is a no for me. Fair chance the aircraft will be inverted, the canopy is not going to open due water pressure if it hasn't been broken. Not a good way to go. Plan for lower terrain, weather, water, simples.
  20. Anyone know if this Bristell was fitted with the optional BRS chute?
  21. Saw that on Facebook from foxbat australia, dated 6 days ago, not sure if a factory SB has been issued yet.
  22. From the Aeroprakt factory: Dear Aeroprakt aircraft owners, We have encountered a problem with the durability of the windshields on the A22 and A32 aircraft. Until the beginning of 2022, we installed 2 mm thick PETG glass and 3 mm thick acrylic glass on the above-mentioned models, the material of which turned out to be short-lived and sensitive to cracking, which led to three cases of windshield failure this year, which fortunately did not lead to fatal consequences. In the coming days, we will issue a safety bulletin, where we will describe the need for mandatory replacement of windshields and the serial numbers of the aircraft affected by this bulletin. Vne will be temporarily limited to 140 km/h (75 knots) until the windshield is replaced. Aircraft with a production date after January 22, on which windshields made of the new material are installed and on which the windshield was replaced after this date, do not have such problems and the speed limit does not apply to them. For our part, we will try to provide our dealers with new windshields as soon as possible. Best regards, Aeroprakt team
  23. So we replaced all the valve springs and the hydraulic lifters on the cylinder with the broken valve spring. The engine has done 1.4 hours since and runs like a clock. The lesson learned is a broken valve spring can cause a very slight roughness, or it might be very rough depending on the location of the break.
  24. A type of radio failure that has happened in our ctaf is pilot headset plugged into the copilot Jack's, radio appears to work but no voice is transmitted. This was two different aircraft with all the Jack's between and or partly behind the seats.
  25. Seeing those lancair evolution airframes at the end of the JMB vid reminded me of this "accident". Know your aircraft. Lancair Evolution Crash N571JM – Fatal Electrical Failure on May 3, 2021 PILOTDEBRIEF.COM Discover the story of Lancair Evolution N571JM's fatal May 3, 2021 crash, caused by electrical failure and pilot error in emergency procedures.
