  1. So the part had been in service for some time. I think the lesson here is just because you fit a part a part and it seems to work fine doesn't necessarily mean much. The Lycoming 320, 360 carburetor or fuel injection engines have been in service unchanged for at least 65 years now. The very few parts that have caused problems have been the subject of an Airworthiness Directive, AD.
  2. Hopefully the cables will be replaced and not just removed to reduce liability.
  3. Yes the data plate says o-360 and it would have left the lycoming factory with an updraft Marvel-Schebler carburetor bolted directly to the sump, just like the one in my RV6a, however the picture clearly shows that was no longer the case unfortunately.
  4. When this dust storm hit Narromine SAAA flyin in 2019 I was glad the thruster was tied tail into the wind.
  5. They have two turbine engines. They can fly on one engine in most cases.
  6. Looks like this aircraft had rotec? Throttle body injection also called a pressure carburetor. I think they can suffer from carburetor ice so it is possible carburetor heat was in use during the low power decent for landing.
  7. Xyla Foxlin is currently building a Pietenpol. Great channel.
  8. Slinging a human under a piston single engine helicopter operating in the "dead man's curve" probably should not be approved. Understanding 'The Dead Man’s Curve' - Vertical Mag VERTICALMAG.COM There’s never a good time for an engine failure, but limiting your time in the “avoid” area of the height-velocity diagram increases your chances of a safe escape.
  9. A twin with neither propeller feathered, there is your problem, ain't got no gas in it.
  10. I doubt if this is true that it it coming from CASA. I do flight reviews only in a VH aircraft that doesn't have all the design features i am endorsed for, this covers both casa and raaus requirements. The very knowledgeable instructor has not mentioned any limitations. I subscribe to info from casa and have not seen anything on this subject.
  11. Back on topic of 3d printed parts, Jabiru apparently have a printed intake part, presumably it is made of the right stuff. Can be seen at the 4min mark in this somewhat educational video.
  12. Bluetooth device receives wireless audio from iPad or phone or tablet. Bluetooth device then sends audio via wires directly to the headset jacks or it can be wired to intercom/vhf radio that is connected to headset Jack's. Have you ever paired a Bluetooth device to your phone or tablet?
  13. We need to consider the consequences of failure. In the above case with the Cozy a wreaked aircraft and possibly no insurance payout is really a minor inconvenience compared to what could have happened.
  14. I will never understand why people modify or replace the proven components the make a standard Lycoming engine reliable. Non standard fuel injection system fitted, why why why.
  15. Massive flutter while the pilot? continues at 120mph and 2500rpm which would be high cruise power. They are lucky it did not come apart. The runway is also wide enough to land that tail dragger directly into wind. Video could be fake (the flutter bit).
  16. The earth X battery has two fire proof vent tubes that are plumbed to the out side of the aircraft. Moneybox, is it possible there was a fault in the wiring or solar regulator etc? Certified aircraft have a two piece master switch that disconnects the battery AND alternator from ALL wiring in the event of smoke in the cockpit. Sport aircraft, not so much.
  17. All the content of magazines is now broadcast directly by the builders themselves such as the Raptor turbodiesel canard, Darkaero etc or YouTubers like the Experimental Aircraft Channel.
  18. Apparently a formation flight, they would know the risks and accept them.
  19. FR24 play back shows a RV7 and other aircraft not visible...
  20. The Continental CD-300 jet A piston diesel engine is the only new certified engine in the 300hp class to challenge the existing Lycoming 540/580 and Continental 520/550 avgas burning engines. The CD-300 diesel powers the Diamond DA50-RG, a luxurious 5 seat retractable with Impressive performance at altitude due the turbocharger. At the altitude most pilots of this class of aircraft fly the Cirrus has it covered. Ultimately the market will decide. One thing is certain, the buyers of this class of aircraft will never be intersted in a twin Rotax.
  21. The ATSB data base is a wonderful thing, here is the report. It seems like there should have been enough separation. It is possible to lose control on takeoff without wake turbulence being involved. Not suggesting that happened but it is a possibility. Turbulence/windshear/microburst involving a Mooney M20J, VH-LOB, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, on 6 June 1994 | ATSB WWW.ATSB.GOV.AU
