  1. .......Cappy became all emotional and jumped into a Scout ready to show the AUF hierarchy what rag and tube was all about.

his jump was too much for the plastic seat which snapped in half, and set the pole into a harmonic frenzy which dropped the engine off the end, and covered him in fabric.

    Cappy blinked and .............................................................................

  2. I did a lot of modelling to try to justify corporate use of aircraft and succeeded three times only:

    • a leg from Albury to Cootamundra, making an urgent next day meeting viable from Melbourne
    • Brisbane Toowoomba for three of us to meet with a bus company
    • Adelaide to port Augusta to deliver a tender and have a discussion with Commonwealth Railways

All of those got over the line because of the business income involved

The biggest impediment in VFR flying was weather; you just couldn't guarantee an arrival time on a regular basis, and you couldn't guarantee getting back to the office for a specific meeting or appointment.

You could do that with an IFR rating, but then you needed to be flying weekly for currency, and the aircraft cost became non-viable.

On top of that, even using the most efficient cost per kimometre aircraft, the breakeven point was rarely justifiable.

I solved the problem when the internet came in and I could do immediate business around the world and anywhere in Australia, and a lot of people have discovered in this pandemic that working from home can be more productive than face to face business, so will not be using cars to the same extent (which will probably lead to an excise/ZLEV increase or less road expansion.

Today, although a $380,000 touring aircraft cost is proportionately the same as those days as is fuel, the hire cost has spiraled to the point where one of the favourite trips from Melbourne to Lake Eyre, Uluru, Alice Springs, Darwin, Kakadu, Thursday Island, Cape York, Cooktown, Cairns, a couple of Whitsunday islands, Melbourne will cost you more than a new car.

Is that all?  Not bad out of 7000 million people globally and consider over 400 people die EVERY day in Australia from one cause, or another.

They aren't out of 7000 million people.

The figures are the deaths Australia would have sustained at the death RATES of those other countries.

We are aware that people die every day in Australia and it well may be 400 per day, however we have not been discussing deaths from al causes, we have been discussing deaths from Covid-19. Maybe this is where you're getting confused.

Stop trying to play the emotional card, "But what if it was your mum or dad?!?"

The Government has put a dollar value on Australian lives since Noah was a fullback. And they threw it right out the window for Covid, and they keep right on doing it!

Even if we lost the full 30,000 they thought we would at the start, that's still less than the cost of what they've done, and are doing to people and businesses, and that's purely the financial cost. (Incidentally, that cost would be "only" $150 Billion...What are we up to now in lockdown's/JobKeeper/Covid Disaster Payments/etc?!?) And that's not mentioning the heartache of missed funerals, weddings, travel the things you can't put a price on. Sydney's lockdown is costing a quarter billion dollars per day!

THAT'S  the reality. I didn't decide a healthy 40-year-old Aussie is worth $5.0M. The Government did, and they did it loooong before Covid was on the scene. didn't decide a "Statistical Life Year" is worth $217,000, the Government did decades ago, and it affects everything from road funding to CAsA-issued AD's.

How many "Life years" have we saved with our reaction to Covid, given the original variant was predominantly fatal to those over 60 (with an ~83 years life expectancy)? How many are being saved "now" with 2/3rds of our Citizens in lockdown and millions more unable to travel without going into quarantine for two weeks, or risking losing their holiday should the border rules change mid flight?!?

If you don't want to take that risk - that's on you. Carry a bottle of sanitizer. Wash your hands. Wear a facemask - hell, I'll wear one too, as I think that's reasonable but I'll be damned if I should lose my career, my livelihood, my house and my family to protect you!

But that's what's happening, nationwide. Personally, 11 months off work last year, 3? months off so far this border closure and if McGowan continues his populist rhetoric it'll be close to 11 months again, but we're one of the lucky ones, we both had good incomes, and the KRviatrix still has hers.

I'm rapidly reaching my tolerance level for these ongoing shenanigans and I dare say I'm not alone, it'll only take a few angrier people to start geeing up others who are in a similar boat to really cause unrest. After all, when you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose!

Well I guess we paid nothing for this, but since you misquoted my post, here are some facts explaining it.

The Australian prediction of 30,000 deaths you used in not correct; might suit your argumeny, but BS.

At the start of the Pandemic, Paul Kelly, now Chief Medical Officer of the Commonwealth predicted Australia would lose 50,000 to 150,000 people in this Pandemic.

Australia's actions, even with the mistakes made have allowed us to save many lives so far.

The Source for these figures is the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine as of 11 pm last night Australian Eastern time.

They are based on applying the deaths per 100,000 people to date to Australia's population.

This shows how many Australians would have died if we had followed the policies of those other countries, compared to our own policy.

    Country             Cum Deaths

    Australia            1032

    Canada rate       18,347

    USA rate             50,005

    UK rate                50,837

    Italy rate              54,621

    Peru rate              155,588

I know people in similar circumstances, their hopes & dreams destroyed by the lunatics in charge! Pilots who will never get a job again flying as they are broken! I have utter disdain for the criminals called politicians & their bureaucratic stooges behind the scenes!

There's a small percentage of Australians unfortunately who can't see the reality that many family members would have died if businesses had been left operating and Airlines still flew around the world.

Do you have ANY knowledge of the Present Qld system. Seems to work very well, and as seamlessly simple as your your 'new systems' And Have You compared the occurrence in Qld  compared with the debacle in the southern states...

The PHU system still appears to be manual from a quick check. This isn't an issue unless there's a big breakout. Vic managed last year's with Defence troops, but Delta is a whole new disease.

Yes I'm aware of Queensland's excellent work in holding down the numbers. Just 5 weeks ago we were churning out zero after zero. This afternoon we were running the numbers of potential growth at current rate vs availability of all ventilators.

The debacle in the southern states is two things:

    1. The Delta strain which transmits way faster than previous strains.

    2. This year the infections are embedded in the community so we have community transmission.

With the numbers exploding, it's the electronic data system that's allowed contact tracing to keep up with Delta and the Al Taqua and other breakouts or a few weeks ago are over, but the bushfire is still going.

What a mess,  AND I have run out of f….s to give.  Turbs, you better go fix the broken system, I wish you luck……you will have more success in tow starting a 747, made out of concrete.

I'm not sure where all this fantasy has come from. I'm talking about a working system which two states are using which is working fine and doesn't need outside help. An example of the cooperation going on is Victoria assisting NSW right now wit the methods we used to reach out to large community groups and get them testing and social distamcing and vaccinating to the extent that a large outbreak was fixed very quickly. This will produce dividends for NSW.

No one works together, every state has a different solution for a Federal problem.

I hope we never have a War, we will lose in 10 minutes from the start…..because we have not gone through a 3 month approval process, for a strategy that could never work……

That answer was for someone in NSW, which like Victoria has a huge load of positive cases and links to process to stay ahead of the Delta strain.

Queensland may well pick up the same software if there is a breakout, and it wouldn't surprise me if they weren't talking to the supplier right now because  it means the difference between having to request hundreds of Defence troops vs reading the spread from the tracers' desks in order to trace the rate and direction of spread and reach the people directly involved rather than half the State.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with States solving a Federal problem, or a war or for that matter a 3 month approval process.

CAAP's are not legislation, they are advisory publications only. That is an important point that must be recognised. And while it is good practice to generally follow what's in them, you can happily operate outside them, so long as you can still maintain compliance with the CAR/CASR's et al.

I still don't get where you're coming from with regards to CAsA prosecuting anyone for landing on an airfield designated as PPR without getting the "PP" part...The closest I could make out would be a violation of CAR92(1.D) or perhaps CAR93 - perhaps you can be more specific in your claims by providing some data or supporting regulations as opposed to just saying "CAsA will get you too..." without a reference as to why/how?

    Hint: when linked to safety.

I think NSW are in the process of picking up the Vic software system - much quicker and easier and you won't be sitting on the phone for an hour if there is a positive. In some cases you won't even know about it if you aren't at risk.

The QR code system reminds me of the bullshit Covid App the fools insisted everyone have, that died & you never hear of that anymore, just another stuff up by our inept Govt! I'm with you jackc I use the sheet provided most times as my writing won't always be too legible (is to me!)

Well you're in Victoria so it's all electronic unless shops are keeping a few of the old forms.

I don't think CASA wold prosecute. It is reallynothing to do with them unless you engage in dangerous flying. Airservices control what goes on the charts regarding prior permission.

The prosecution would come from the landowner and the fact that he has an airstrip shows that he has some interest in flying

For him to prosecute would be costly and no doubt the landowner would end up out of pocket, so I reckon it would only happen if he was badly upset by your landing.

My experience is that if you do drop in you will be helped if you need it and otherwise treated cordially.

It is a requirement of CAAP 92-1 (1) which I explained to Spacesailor above.

Turbs, that is a pretty lousy shot.  Why not come up with an idea to contribute to a possible solution?  I did…….

That is the solution for about 98% of the population. DHHS have solutions for the other 2% operating now. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I have an old iPhone 4, just got a new battery put in.  I do written log in, IF available.

No log in sheet?   They don’t care, then neither do I……

Not sure about Queensland but in Victoria now the QR login is as quick as I posted. No need to enter anything, and because we've had a couple of lockdowns and use the new software just about every building, parkbench or anything nailed down has a QR code. So if you walk into a shop and unbeknown to you the person before you was infected and infected the person at the counter, and you walk out infected, go to three other shops, fill up with fuel, then head for home, when the first infected person shows positive in a test the software instantly advises you and every facility you've visited and flags the shop Tier 1 or 2 in the Media, so you don't have to remember where you've been, you don't have to do anything except take a test, and they'll have caught you early enough that the infection shouldn't be too serious. The data you're giving through the QRCode only goes to the software on a continuous wash off basis, so only the few days data important for tracking is there. Thhis system allows quite big breakouts to be identified, a ring put around them and usually by a cople of weeks it's back to normal.

You mean " if the land owner doen,t sue,  Casa will " .

    spacesailor

No, I couldn't see too much trouble from a land owner. After all you're landing on what looks like an airstrip [ you usually can't see crab holes or tree limbs, rocks etc in long grass.]

However, if you hit one of the logs and the aircraft flipped over and someone was injured, so you decided to sue the farmer because he didn't have white crosses displayed to prevent the reasonably forseeable risk, which you are entitled to do, and my be able to get all the medical and repair costs and your lawyers fees out of him, there is stil this to deal with.

    CAAP 92-1 (1)

    Paragraph 8.5

"Except in an emergency the consent of the owner/occupier is required before a landing area may be used."

Note the words required before - a very definite intent.

  21. This is Australia's Covid-19 Supply Agreement and TGA approval timeline.

    The two setbacks were:

    1.  Diversion of 2.5 milion Pfizer doses to Europe where they were desperately needed. (offset so far by a a current deal with Poland shown below)

    2. The unfortunate failure of the University of Queensland/CSL Geelong 51 million doses which had an impact on the delivery schedule.

Total cost of the Agreements - $8 billion.

    On top of this:

    1. Australia is spending $350 million supporting vaccine research and development.

2.Australia has supplied vaccines to Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands.

Our political system is nothing like the US, with no need for the entrenched positions the US Parties take.

For example, when interviewed this morning a Liberal Government Minister was publicly backed by a Labor Shadow Minister. Our Committee system is bipartisan, and once a Committee has finished calling witnesses to get the facts and hashed it around their party dogmas and reached a conclusion, a resulting Bill often gets through Parliament very efficiently.

It's my understanding you're correct about Tresspass, yes, and you would be guilty of that if you remained after being asked to leave, however, what is commonly thought of as Tresspass (Going onto someone's property without being asked) is covered in a different, quite old, law in NSW - where you are still in violation of the Inclosed Lands Protection Act.

If it is marked in the ERSA as PPR (defined in ERSA GEN 2.2-48 as "Prior Permission Required"), you would be extremely hard pressed to demonstrate you are not in violation of the ILPA unless in a genuine emergency. And the thing to consider, you can still be arrested for it (If the landowner want's to be a right prick and knows his stuff), you will just be found "Not Guilty" if it goes to court. But you'll still end up in the custody of the Rozzers for the afternoon, make statements, have to leave your plane behind while all this happens, etc...

The other thing to consider is the landowner may have an obligation under some agreement with Council or a local NIMBY to only use the airfield for his personal use, for for X number of movements a year. If some random plane just lobs in, you could be exposing the landowner to grief arguing against said NIMBY, like Ol' mate up Cairns way with his Spit, can only fly it between certain hours, certain days of the year, etc. PPR is not a request that you seek permission, it's a requirement that you obtain permission before operating there.

It's the CASA reg you need to look for.
