I don’t care about laws so much, ETHICS are more important……human beings not using their position in RAA or any organisation for that matter, to obtain some financial advantage for themselves.

RAA being a unique organisation that has an ABN and is an incorporated  non profit, IF i have gotten that right?

As much as you might care about Ethics, you have to check the RAA Ltd documentation to see if it excludes a candidate who holds an aviation position or owns an aviation business. If it does, they're disqualified as a candidate, if it doesn't (the more likely), they're not.

And what about politicians who run this country……what experience in that field do they have?  Their track record is rather ordinary.

In our case aviation experience is an advantage.  It is in MY opinion, unethical that they have financial interest in an Aviation business whilst being  a board member/director of RAA etc.

Well as you would know the value of the opinion of a shareholder is limited to the number of shares he holds. What counts is what is allowed by the Limited Company's documents, so if anyone has concerns there, they should find a copy and then they'll know, whereas the value of an Incorporated Association is that if there was enough concern to carry a motion the constitution could be changed to reflect that concern.

So Westmead hospital services the whole of Australia ah?? one hospital in a country with 636 public hospitals and 657 private hospitals ,So the rest of these are all full too you reckon ???Or is Westmead is just not up to the job,,,,do some research on westmead.https://www.westmeadhospitalwhistleblowers.com/westmead-hospital-loses-accreditation.html

There is no point in arguing about degrees of capacity at our level, and particularly not about ambulance ramping which was prevalent a couple of years ago in Melbourne and fixed by expanding the receiving areas in the hospitals so the ambulances could offload their patients who would go into a waiting zone and take the same time to be processed, but the ambulances were free to fill the pickup delay KPI. Adelaide also has a current Ambulance ramping problem which is being explointed by the SA Opposition.

In Melbourne some medical people have spoken to the press about being on the limit of Covid capacity now, at a fraction of NSW numbers. That may all disappear overnight if the Covid hospital opens up. We just don't know what the contingency plans are, so no point speculating iwthout that knowledge.

However,  they are part of a body that regulates our Aviation sector.  IF they are part of an Aviation business, in my eyes it’s a conflict of interest.

Why?  Aviation decisions need to be made by people with extensive aviation experience.

Directors from the steel industry need extensive experience in that industry if they are to set policies which will work.

Because a friend died from astra zenica, and would still be alive today because there is no covid here in Tasmania. So he would definetly still be alive if not for that shot.....and the reason i had the vaccine is because my partner is 70 and i have several vunerable people around me ,so for them i did it . But that was my choice, no one elses to make but me .So mandating and deviding by vaccination status is not proven by science at all.

As sad as losing a friend after being vaccinated with Astrazeneca is, like on the front line in a war you still have to keep moving forward, and Astrazeneca in Australia is not being administered unless the patient has had a briefing from a medical professional.

The reason for vaccinating Australians is to protect THEM from death and long term injury; not the people round them who are being urged to go and get the vaccine to protect themselves.

Just to be clear - I don't have a view either way. I am certainly no expert.  Just looking at the data and trying to understand it.

    But understand this.....

2 weeks ago, my friend (double vaccinated) caught covid.  Gave it to his mother (double vaccinated) She died. (over 70)

Today, one of my flying buddies tells me his wife (Double Vaxed) is now in hospital fighting for her life. (over 70)

Like i said... Just trying to make sense of the data without influence from so called Drs and Scientists who are paid for the pleasure.

I settled on Johns Hopkins University of Medicine because it is collecting and distributing accurate data very day of every month until the end of this epidemic.

That gives a steady stream of results - what has actually happened day by day.

A lot of people are posting information used to make a case one way or the other, sometimes honestly, sometimes not, but most of it is contaminated by what is collected, or the standard of medical treatment provided which varies from outstanding treatment of the patient resulting in a survival not expected in any data to offloading the body from the hospital ER for burning.

The Victorian DHHS has been adding to their daily bulletins total people hospitalised, those in ICU, those on Ventilators and those who died. From the hospitalised total they are quoting the number of people who are double vaccinated, and single vaccinated. Those numbers have been hovering around zero for a few days, but I haven't followed them becaise we know the problem area with big numbers - thousands - at risk are the unvaccinated, and they are a finite number of Victoria's population, and reducing every day as they get vaccinated.

People always leave the work to others if they can and the usual talk was" I just want to fly". Apathy it is called.. RAAus went from a members show to a Business where you are the customer that has to cop the changes without any direct representation effectively.. AS for a projected policy.. Do the members have any control of that and are they aware of where it's going? Nev

You were the one who said no use having a dog and barking too.

Now we no longer have the dog and no one is bothering to bark becaise they were all shut down by people who pretended they knew what they were doing.

What's with this slavish copy of what uninformed US people were using 12 months ago?

The medical profession does its best to prevent deaths from all those diseases and doesn't give you any options other that you are free to walk away and die.

This one has exponential spread capability which is starting to demonstrate right now more than doubling the road toll numbers in NSW.

People are being offered a vaccine which shuts those deaths and long term injuries down.

Having been double vaccinated yourself, why are you trying to throw doubt on a very sound strategy to save lives?

Well Yenn it's a monopoly which is contrary to the requirements in an earlier document which constantly referred to an alternative "parallel Path".  Where we are at now is a result of many factors not the least being the chaotic state of the AUF/RAAus governance and internal wrangling at the time but also the total rejection of the Casa 's ceo McCormick of anything built  of uncertified parts by ordinary people. He was a poor pick because of his background and  "fixed" attitude. so we went backwards at a great rate of knots. while he was there.. Nev

Where we are at the moment is the result of repeated lethargy by the membership.

They could have removed any of thes obstacles and the drift away from the core RA purposes, but again and again stayed away in droves.

they don’t want to let unvaccinated in a pub. Ok Goodo. Let’s roll with that.
99 vaccinated people in there, and the next guy walks in also vaccinated but has Covid.
what was the point of keeping the unvaccinated out?  Was there any benefit to that?

Simple; they have a duty of care to prevent a forseeable risk.

An unvaccinated person walking into their property is the risk.

The benefit is they will not be responsible for a death or permanent injury.

Reuters is a news service - certainly not an authority on Covid so not worth the paper it isn't written on any more, and certainly just a shadow of the old Reuters everyone knew so well.

Let’s get some perspective lads. This straight from the ABS.  link below for you.
IN AUSTRALIA There were 5,043 deaths from respiratory diseases between January and May 2021. NOT INCLUDING COVID.  There were 766 deaths due to influenza and pneumonia recorded between January and May 2021. NOT INCLUDING COVID. 20,143 deaths from cancer occurred between January and May 2021.Why are Covid deaths more important?Source. ABShttps://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/health/causes-death/provisional-mortality-statistics/latest-release

In fact there are a lot more deaths per year than that which all go to add up to our yearly death rate.

No one has said Covid deaths are more important; we are just discussing Covid and the effect it is having on our lives.
You've quoted primarily linear deaths; Covid produces exponential deaths.

If we sat back and did nothing as you seem to be implying, we might finish up with the same rate as Peru, which would give Australia so far 150,000 deaths. How dumb would that be?

  16. The USA ran a one-fix strategy - vaccination, and so far it has left them with over 600,000 dead.

PLENTY in the medical profession over there screwed up big time and will pay for it with their careers and houses, so we see in the US debates oddball things like "when vaccinations reach 100%, 100% of the people in hospital will be vaccinated people - the message being its a sliding scale so getting vassinated doesn't help. Garfly's story is the response to one of these nitwits.

Australia still has the two-strategy policy advantage which has allowed us to keep the breakout numbers down, and shut down breakouts completely instead of just letting it rip and trying to reduce deaths by vaccination.

Right now we have some business sectors in NSW and Vic squealing for us to "open up" and I notice in Vic squealing for kids to go back to school, apparently not realising that we topped the NAPLAN scores after last year's months long lockdown.

Within a month or so, most people in Sydney and Melbourne will have been vaccinated and be even more stridently calling for Australia to open up, overseas flights to be opened up, because we know that the worst that can happen to us is the equivalent of a bad dose of flu.

    That's group 1

Group 2 will be the unvaccinated.

First, a minority with less say and a lot less sympathy

Open to infections from a lot more facilities conducting business.

Infected by their own, because they have also been the ones disregarding lockdown rules like not travelling across town for a 30 member family birthday, going to see mothers fathers, partying and travelling.

Much worse than that is the failure of all vaccines so far to stop the vaccinated (Group 1) getting infected and spreading the disease, to Group 2,  and people being people, not bothering to get tested and isolate because Covid is not going to hurt them.

The Covid Passport which is being derided by the non-vaccinated is designed to protect that diminishing number of people, but how well is it going to be administered once there are enough customers free to shop and travel?

My forecast is that by the end of October Group 2 will take over from the businesses, people stranded oveseas etc on morning TV with their heartbreaking stories of being left to die, and people being what people are it will be interesting to see the reaction from the vaccinated.

Denmark's Covid -19 cum. death rate is 44.85 per 100,000 population - 13 times the rate of Australia

    Australia's cum.is 4.2 per 100,000 population

Source: Johns Hopkins University of Medicine 9/9/21

If the Denmark performance was applied to Australia's population we would have 11,450 dead instead of 1066.

And Denmark is opening up now with Covid-12's exponential spread. vs Australia opening up maybe late October on our rate per 100,000 at that time.

Someone experienced at exponential equations might be able to predict the comparison by Christmas.

We might just be throwing away our good work. Nev

Because of the exponential spread of the Delta variant, and the fact that so many of the general public just can't grasp the speed and multiplication factor of the spread, it's become clear that the game plan for NSW and Victoria is to save as many people as possible by vaccinating them - the USA solution if the current outbreaks do flare, at the same time with the tantalising possibility they can still knock them down. Regardless of the knock down success, both States have managed to ramp up vaccination centres to the point where deaths will be minimised. Of course if the blowout does come it will be self regulating; nothing like a steady death rate to have people knocking down the doors to get vaccinated, but the Johns Hopkins figures are still showing us up in a very good light.

    I’m sorry,

in my opinion  I see this a blatant propaganda by travel and tourism  interests seeking to bolster their profits.

As SD said earlier in the thread, many of the countries that are opening  to travel have suffered tens of thousands of deaths and lose hundreds more each day. The Australian policy has saved many thousands of lives and continues to do so.

Anybody  craving a resumption of international travel for that two week break in Bali, is that the price you’d be willing to pay in Australian lives?

These shameless stories are being put out there by big business interests desperate to claw back profit at the cost of human lives.

Bit of a long post there turbo, your space bar must have stuck. Let's say there are 20 pilots in Bird dogs town, lock down for us is ending tonight. So we all go for some dual with an instructor, would it not have been safer in relation to Covid if everyone continued to fly by themselves with no close contact with any strangers?

Tried to get rid of it three times and gave up.

    Just separating it into two parts Covid and recency;

This year we are dealing with the Delta strain which has an explosive spread and has frequently transferred over a distance of 3 metres or more in hallways and out in the open. One infected person infected others from memory in Longreach, Townsville and Cairns on the one day. An infected truck driver infected a string of towns through Melbourne, Victoria, SA and WA. As an example of spread in remote places, once we forded Coopers Creek and drove along the northern bank to the dig tree parking under a nearby tree where my daughter, feeling unwell threw up on the ground. About as remote as you can get, probably no one on that spot for many years. I shifted the car so she wouldn't bring it back in and we went to look at the Dig Tree. To my embarrassment when we were walking back I saw a woman wiping her shoe. They'd driven to the exact same spot, so even in the outback someone can come along infected.

Of the 20 pilot example you gave nd assuming none are Commercial because the State is taking the risk on them, during the current Melbourne lockdown conditions they can't fly, either because they are locked into a 5 km radius, which is a Contact Tracing tool to keep infected people in "pools" until they can be isolated, or because of the potential touchpoints on the way to the airfield, at the airfield or on the way home. Some people might say "I am getting into my car on my property, driving to the airport, which has no gate, going to my hangar where I open my doors with an electronic switch, get in my aircraft, alone, fly for an hour, and reverse the procedure to go home." There would be no virus transfer last year but a possible transfer of the Delta strain if someone had walked past or come across and asked to borrow a pump etc. However, we ony hae to take the luris statements of about 20 people on this site last year and this year boasting about what they do, and we know that a large percentage would take a mate from across town, drop in for fuel, get a coffee, and meet three or four mates at the airport. The Health Dpertments know people's habit so they shut this down totally to get a clean contact circle in order to open up again.

    Currency

Given that the above is likely to happen and the CHO is trying to prevent multiple deaths, flying for practice in lockdowns isn't  infection-safe anyway, so flying for currency isn't an option.

During the non-currency period no one is flying anyway so being non current isn't an issue.

For the most part, the CFI or Instructor may only require a couple of touch and goes to OK you for solo anyway.

It's only if he finds your skills have eroded that you might get a bit longer constraint, so not really a big deal.

However, this is a big issue for RAA Ltd, because they are operating as a Self Administering Organisation and carry the legal liability for operations where they issue certificates, yet are nowhere to be seen on issues like this, with guidance, and on-field compliance auditing. It should be easy for a PIC to know exactly what the procedure is after x weeks away from an aircraft; the control is certainly there in GA, and should be in place in RA.

Well, All I can say, from someone who experienced this last year when we were locked down....

Never again will I allow myself to go for months without getting in the cockpit to remain recent and proficient.  Last year when that happened, it could have ended very differently.  I won't go into details, only to say, CASA have recent and proficient policies for a reason.

I will probably get flogged by some of you for this, but myself and my organisation are continuing to work (we deliver training to government and other essential services) and I can tell you, me driving to the AD to go for a fly, is the least of your concerns! LOL!

You do you... I will do me.  🙂  Enjoy!

Are you in lockdown where you are?

Half the people posting their theories here aren't even in lockdown let alone knowing what the rules are for their lockdown.

The en result of a person breaching lockdown is that they put themselves in a position to spread infection and possibly cause permanent injuries or death.

As far as recency goes no PIC who is not current should be going flying by him/herself full stop. An assessment by an Instructor is a tiny proce to pay; some people may need an hour's assessment plus another hour of practice, others need four or five supervised and solo hours before coming up to their former standard. If you miss out on three months flying that's three months costs you've saved, so it's not as if it's an issue of cost to train up to standard.
