Yes, but..... GQ-1? And it said JUMBO.... Not C5 Galaxy. And..... Today (the next time I thought to load the tracker) that flight had gone to Singapore. Ok once clear of Sydney it could have "hidden" or what ever. Just the time for me to see/find QF-1 departing Sydney throws a spanner in my works. And I shall stand corrected there are/were C-17's shown in Sydney on the late news. AND I am not sure if it was a C-5 or C-17. It was Military. High wing and 4 engines. Sorry for saying C-5 and not 4 engine high wing military jet.

"Yesterday" (Thursday 11 May) I was in Newtown (Sydney) and looked up at a plane taking off. My hands were dirty as I was eating food at the time. Approximately 15:30 C-5 Galaxy taking off 34 L. Started turning West. After a few minutes and when my hands were clean I loaded my flight tracker. Expanded from Sydney and went NW. The ONLY heavy I could see, coming from Sydney. Clicked on it. QF-1 I thought QF-1 was the first morning flight out of Sydney. Anyone?

The big thing there is the word IF. How about we wait for truths to be revealed? Yes, it would be better if we can learn from it but first we have to know if that is/was the cause.

Shame that it got to that. I know no one is perfect, but gee it is not nice when pilots - who are supposed to be just a bit better than most others at blame assignation - are doing that.

And this is true. But (sorry, playing "Devil's advocate") Fuel checks en-route should have detected this. Shouldn't they? I get it: mistakes are made. We need to learn from it and be glad things weren't worse.

Not pointing fingers, and as much as mistakes happen: Seriously? Running out of fuel? If it was 30 years ago I would believe it more. But nowadays people use these whizz bang apps and stuff to do their flights. Fuel is in there and for a direct flight with no diversions..... That seems odd. Had the plane needed to divert because of "things" - again: maybe. But it is an n hour flight with fixed reserves. Plane drinks y liters of fuel / hour. It isn't rocket science. The "app" should have shown the fuel needed. Yes, it is good the pilot wasn't killed and there wasn't an explosion at the crash site. Me thinks there is more to this story.

CH7 claims the plane may have run out of fuel. Sorry. Shouldn't post unverified claims.

(And to digress to the part of "busy circuits" and go arounds) When I was low on my hours I got back to my "home base" (Hoxton Park) and the circuit was BUSY. (Relative term I know) I overflew and was trying to get in to the circuit. I asked how many planes were in the circuit to try and improve my awareness. When I got down I had a new hole ripped in me by the person renting the plane because I asked. Yes, maybe not a "PROFESSIONAL THING TO DO", but why was it SO wrong? I get it was busy. I was trying to work out how many people were in the circuit - and I was low on hours. To me it was the person's ego not wanting to be "shown up renting the plane to a stupid person who can't handle a bit of traffic". Anyway, sorry.

Sorry to digress but as "to many frequencies" is/was mentioned: I was riding "shotgun" on a trip and we stopped in Moree. We stopped off to get fuel. There had been a problem happen with heavy rain the night before and the plane wasn't in a good way. Did the fuel check and started the engine. The active runway at the time was the north one. There was a LOT of traffic as it was the end of a fly-in happening near bye also. "Bah, I'll take off southbound." was the PIC's attitude. As we took off we nearly hit a plane landing on the northbound runway. The idiot pilot on the plane didn't bother CHECKING the frequency of the radio. Yeah, ok, when we came/went into Moree it was on the right frequency and all we did was shut down and power up. But given the plane had electrical problems: that is something that should have been DOUBLE checked. The fact that the frequency was QUIET AS...... Should have been enough of a warning that it wasn't on the right frequency. With all the planes you would expect to hear SOMETHING. But it was quite and the PIC just decided to ...... "Ah, I've broadcasted. That's my part done." Is a rather pathetic mind set. So I think that as much as it is annoying having too many people talking on the frequency - another story - people should learn to WAIT THEIR TURN. And given this was "the normal" for the pilots...... It doesn't hold much credibility for me. (Just saying)

I think - to be fair - the stirring the pot emoji did kind of give it away that was a bit of a "piss take".

I was told something like: Bounce count: 1 -- Not good. 2 -- Seriously? 3 -- The last one! 4 -- By this stage you are planted in the runway: nose down. Do NOT let it get above 2. 3 and you are really playing with danger in a very serious way. (P.S. to clarify: Only 1 bounce. On the second touchdown it is WHEELS ON THE GROUND FOR GOOD.)

That is but ONE of the MANY recipes. I feel as good as it is: it is an oversimplification of things.

I am probably going to regret asking, but here goes: A long time ago there was a question posed about a truck carrying pigeons inside. The gross weight is 5 tons. If all the pigeons fly - inside the truck's area - does it (the truck) weight any less? (Don't answer that yet) Then there is the story I heard a long time ago about falling objects. I don't remember the specifics, but it was something like: A rock is sitting on the ground. It weighs 2 kg. You pick it up and drop it. As it is falling how much pressure is on the ground below it? Supposedly 2 kg because of the pressure below the rock. (Beats me.) And there is a question about hovercraft and how much weight do they have (on the ground) when "flying" compared to when they are just sitting there engines off. Just recently I've seen this youtube on "How do plane fly" - which is not arching back to a SHELL movie from decades ago. This new one So what is happening with all the "weight"? I know weight is a concept - controlled by gravity - and it should be MASS that is measured. I'm not the sharpest tool so maybe don't use too many long words. I really don't like it when I get bored and ask hard questions that are well above my knowledge. So now my little brain is curious about what is going on with that sort of thing.

And so in the bigger scheme of things: No one knows REAL information on what happened? "we" (the other person and I) - as stated - are in Ashfield. That is under DEPARTING traffic. Inbound. NEVER! Well, if there is inbound traffic at 3000 feet at Ashfield there are bigger things happening. Every morning at 06:15 (I think it is) a A380 takes off overhead. Going to Dubai. It is LOW AND HEAVY. Yes a lot quieter than the older 747's from the 80's. The reported plane was low and noisy. Any emergency plane would be way up by the time it gets over us. As no one can help: I will "write it off as not worth pursuing any further."

If you thinks SYDNEY is THE gateway to Australia I would say there is/are other things needing attention here.

I live in Ashfield and was talking to someone today and they mentioned - in passing - that they heard a plane flying over this morning at 04:30. Isn't that a bit too early?

(I'm only saying.) I guess sometimes people make themselves too important and forget the job.

Yeah, it is sad. Radio calls should be listened to seriously. Isn't there a rule that landing aircraft have priority over ones taking off? Things I "see" wrong with what I've heard/seen. "Blind spots" - although the one landing may not have seen the one taking off, the one taking off should have seen the one landing. Looking up to a blue sky with a big black object in/on it. The "Tap on the shoulder warning". I'm skeptical. Sorry. Fair enough "they" may have seen the other helicopter and were trying to alert the pilot. But there should have been clear rules on WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE ANOTHER HELICOPTER. Yeah, ok, shaking the $hit out of the pilot also wouldn't be a good idea, but that "tap" looked more like a "Hey, can you ......." type rather than a "Huston we have a problem" tap.
