  2. This one's just gone over another 2 or 3 times, so they're definitely doing ovals in the sky and not going from one spot to another. Nev we almost never get jets over, which is what made me go take a look. The last one was a RAAF C17 that went over at about 500ft or less, that was impressive.
  3. Make that 4 times. Must be a training flight. I thought they used simulators for that now, cheaper than tooling round in an empty heavy.
  4. I've just had a twin engine RPT jet go over my house 3 times. This is strange because the next airstrip to the south of me that can handle an A320 / B737 is Antarctica, and generally speaking planes landing at or orbiting HBA don't come this far south. However it doesn't show on FlightRadar24. Why would this be? Cheers, Marty

  8. Hi Mark, I'm going to have to do something very similar, I have the same muffler in what looks like same position as yours. Coming into warmer weather now so won't be long before I'm able to fibreglass again. The corflute to get rough shape is a great idea - thanks for sharing! Cheers, Marty

  10. Thank you for pointing out exactly why the Australian generation grid needs to be changed. I see a few Tesla's, Leaf's, electric Hyundai's and BMW's on the roads down here. As our state grid is hydro powered it's renewable, except for when the silly buggers running it decided to sell lots of electricity to Victoria when prices were high and ran the water supply too low.

Of course, you're counting all the emissions that come from the coal we pull out of the ground and sell to the rest of the world, aren't you?   13. Hi all, More questions... Firstly, NPT fittings (these are the tapered threads). What sealant do you use? Secondly - hose clamps. What sort of clamps come standard with Rotax fuel fittings? Guessing whatever they use must be ok. Worm drive, 1 or 2 ear compression ones - what's the usual? Thirdly - fuel taps, for the tank lines down to the header. What sort of taps do you use, and where did you get them? There's a few cast or aluminium cheap ones for motorbikes and ATV's on Ebay, is that the sort of thing or are there better brass ones? Finally - is there a standard 5-way fuel fitting for the bit after the mechanical pump where it goes to the carbs, fuel pressure gauge and return line? (number 9 on the diagram about 5 posts ago).   14. Those gliders look good - couple of them are around $36 - $38K at the moment - but in the description it says "UNSERVICEABLE". What's going on there? Is that a caveat that they have to put in to protect themselves or does it really mean the aircraft cannot be flown? The trailers are the duck's guts too.

  19. Fuel... again... firstly I did what I should have done ages ago and checked the plans. 1/4" fuel line is perfectly fine for the 701. So that's a relief, and probably why I bought those 1/4" quick release fittings from Aircraft Spruce in the first place. So - I made up a small L-shaped piece today from 0.032" to take the two quick release fittings in the L/H wing root, put a 3/8" to 1/4" reducer in the line from the tank and hooked them up. I will put a small inspection port under so that by removing a couple of screws I can disconnect the fuel lines just by pushing the release buttons from underneath. The good thing is that these close off both hoses when released, so in theory there shouldn't be any fuel leakage even when there's fuel in the tank and the header (and the lines going to it) are full. On the L/H tank the line going forward to a fitting at the top of the tank is for a breather from the header tank, and also will have the fuel return from the engine T'd into it.
