YepBull, your post is still there - you must have started typing within the quote (it shows up like [ / QUOTE ] ), so you have to click on 'click to expand ...' in the blue .. I read it - 60 people, 30 planes ... that the one? -
Hey Ian did I do something wrong with the editing or something as my post comes up on my posting with the photos I added but has now disappeared from the thread???????
-
@bull - looks like you've got the gong for organising Not-Kosh 2018!

I,m glad you got to read my post Jerry, it has suddenly disappeared ,i think I might have upset someone or something ,,???don't know why...................

The days without 20 yr old uni students trying to tell experienced pilots and families how to behave around airplanes and ss marshals and cracking of jackboots by big headed organisers and whipping of canes etc,,thanks for the memories manna........And the days of REAL ULTRALIGHTS and days of AFFORDABLE FLYING FOR EVERYONE, the original mantra of the AUF before it was stolen by the failed GA brigade..................Here is a video of what we have lost, the attached video is the SAAA 1986 Mangalore Flyin. -
Where,d my post go???? something is strange,,,,,,,??????????????????

Running a fly in is probably simpler than the everyday management of risk by RAA.It’s a matter of looking at all the potential risks, coming up with an action plan to manage them, and taking out Public Liability Day/weekend cover for the worst case scenario.
Many Airshows have had disasters, so deleting this from the event removes the stigma and most of the real risk.
That then leaves hooning and risk taking by participants, and that has happened at fly ins, but you can manage behaviour substantially by the tone of the promotion.
The promotion and management of the event is where most manpower is required.
Just recently someone posted a checklist for running a fly in and it was a big list. I thought it was on this site and meant to take a copy of it, but forgot. Anyone else see it?[/QThis year I organised the Lakeside Easter flyin/BBq with minimal marshals and no fences at all just orange cones and the main talking/gathering place was a large hanger with tables and chairs and seats outside to watch the rc model boys doing their thing as well and had over 60 people and 30 aircraft for two days and it was fantastic weekend with morning bbq breaky and roast pork dinner. Over the whole weekend there was not one incident or accident, nor was there any runway incursions or clashes, nor did we have anyone walking into props or breaking planes etc and there was a few kids there too. Now in the lead up to this event I posted a simple set of rules and guidelines about parking engine start up s etc and also a few locals turned up for a look too as the rc club I invited brought out their families and everyone was well behaved and used COMMON SENCE and as I said before there was not ONE problem during this event and everyone had a ball,So it,s not that hard to organise this type of gathering at all just need willing people who are prepared to give a bit of time and effort. ps rather then look like a commercial money charging event, which would put it into car 156 area,,i just had a big money box donation tin and told everyone to just chuck in what they thought the weekend and dinner was worth,,,,well all up after covering all costs and buying Pooly a bottle of rum [he owns the airstrip lol] we had excess remaining so that sort of speaks for itself about how people are not scared of paying a bit for something that is run right with out the ss type marshals and 6ft high fences and nany uni students trying to tell aviators and friends how to behave around airplanes etc, all up people responded beautifully to common sence rules without the cracking of jackboots and whipping of canes etc and they enjoyed themselves ....................Scott Evans....................pps regarding communications we are ctaf with everyone calling arrivals at 5 miles and then using see and be seen and talked to eachother and this resulted in not one air related or runway issue either.................

Technicly a funeral is by invite only most times ,so I don't think it would be classed as a public gathering anyway.CAR 156 -
Ah but we have been doing that exact thing for years without your master guidance and advice 'sir, can I ask you what has changed,And just as an aside I was wondering [even though it has nothing to do with boat shows or races ] that if I organised a local sausage sizzle at one of my local beaches and a few mates just happened to rock up with their ski boats and took a few people out sking and did it right infrontt of the beach crowd, would I need permission and an event permit and crowd insurance and safetymarshalls etc??? just wondering,,,,,[bloody nannies]I wonder if the judge would use the phrase "if it looks like a duck and talks like a duck then it is probably a duck"?
I think if you are going to have a big flyin (and just a flyin) then I think it would be worth the effort to tick the boxes, after all what everyone seems to be hinting at is a little bigger than a little aeroclub get together and it would be a shame to bring unnecessary attention onto us from the regulator. -
AND some people just happen to fly IN too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The 'Pickurplace' Lions Club annual sausage sizzle charity fundraiser held at 'Pickurplace' airport is not a Fly-In.It's just a great event to support conveniently located at an airfield.

Cruise on up to the Lakeside Easter flyin at Midge point in QldWhat a good idea!Easter is when the traditional Narromine Fly-In used to be held, and that was very popular, with 200+ aircraft flying in.Narromine is still the best venue, with very convenient facilities for camping or soft accommodation, and locals who welcome such an event and have experience how to host it.

yesI wonder if this crash was another case of pilot confusion as regards the complex auxiliary fuel pump switching/valving arrangement in the 310 - the same thing that brought down the G.A.S. 310Q, VH-FYZ, 300km N of Forrest in 1993?https://www.atsb.gov.au/media/4432781/ASOR199300002.PDFCan anyone confirm that the aircraft involved in this crash is VH-JMW?

Sorry you are so wrong , the only "permanent fence is the existing fence of the airport which is only a meter high,,as to the fences in the photos look closer and you will see the temporary panels and water filled plastic feet ,,,maybe you need spec, savers mate,,,,lolAmazes me to hear people talking about this 'temporary, hired fence' when, if we have look at the only pic posted of the whole fence it's quite clearly a recently installed PERMANENT fence with the poles concreted into the ground. Is there someone out there that thinks this fence was installed at the direction of RAA? Or that thinks it will be removed following this event? It clearly had to have been installed at the behest or insistence of the local authority i.e the airport operator.C'mon folks ... ffs, it's clear as dogs' whatsits that this fence was/is intended to be permanent given that there might be risks of people straying onto the airside, just like most/all other airports/strips - as they develop.
As Poteroo said, just get over it - the fence didn't change anyone's experience unless they allowed it to do so - as others who attended have reported ...

But this person is saying I have an axe to grind ,?? that is an insult as I have no axe to grind at all and am just upset at the way RAA allowed this event to fail.can you please moderate this person for attacking me and becoming personal? or I,d like to report this person to the moderater for using this thread to attack another member???(edited..mod.....play the topic not the person, you have been warned.) -
Is that because you would want to censure any negativity about RAA or Narramine turbo??Yes, it's not a good look for new visitors to Rec Flying. -
(edited..mod.....play the topic not the person, you have been warned.)This thread should be cancelled. It was started by someone who wasn't there but with an axe to grind. It was then fuelled by those who have similar axes to grind. Those who were there tried in vain to provide a reasonable explanation and most actually thought the flyin was good. When it was found that the debarkle (debacle) wasn't what it seemed nothing changed. Get a life and move on. -
And not enjoyed by a few who where there too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,There is always two sides to every story, ,,,and to gloss over things is showing how RAA has become a political organisation now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Which point? I would like to think it proves the point that the fence wasn't a huge deal. I would also like to think it proves it was an enjoyable outing enjoyed by most. (Obviously not enjoyed by those who weren't there) -
(edited...mod) it looks like everyone had a reasonable time , besides not being trusted to pay the entrance fee, needing a 6ft fence even though as you can see a perfectly good 1 mt high fence was already there and I do think the cost of hiring and setting up that "fence 'really would have cost more then the odd loss from a few fence jumpers, just my take .Thanks Ian for editing my post as it looks like the complaint of one person who do,s not agree with me has enough power to bring about an editing,,oh well , we,ll see how this Narromine debarkle go,s next year ah, might give up and just go and buy an rv9 or something , so I can look educated enough to comment on this forum .And just so everybody knows I am commenting on the issues at narramine from reports of close friends who did attend and where dissatisfied with things like food selection and availability and cost,[some waited over 1/2 hr just for a simple 6in pizza and lack of drainage at the areas posted for underwing camping resulting in wet beds, and overbearing PA system if close to it , and non hearable if not etc,,,not to mention the 6ft FENCE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,(no complaints received, moderator, not Ian, decided that you should play the topic, not insult the members publishing comments, whether you agree with them or not. Please, if you disagree, and that is your right, moderate the insults. As I said, play the topic, not the author.....mod) -

deleted...modEnough! Enough! If you couldn't demonstrate enough nous to look up both the correct spelling and meaning of the word debacle: then you should be more restrained in your criticism of RAAus and the AA organisers. What a petty, spiteful and ungrateful thread this is! Ian, you should lock it asap.-

Sorry (edited..mod) this is what threads are for ,,to discuss /debate etc etc if it hurts you too much to hear the truth , maybe just don't look at the thread....................................edited...modEnough! Sorry it,s not the members bank account anymore since RAA became a company,,it is the directors bank account to do with what they want and to ensure that they all get pay rises when they feel like it,and pay for all those travel junkets and accomadations at 5 star motels etc etc oh and the company credit cards and company cars oh and almost forgot , and to pay for 6ft fences at airshows etcour bank account! -
I think the change of focus of RAA from looking after members to looking after it,s bank account is what has caused most dissatisfaction Yenn. Not so long ago people were complaining that there was no national Fly-In planned.RAA and other bodies got together and risked lots of money to organise one, but people are still dissatisfied.-
