  1. Just thought I,d restart the old story of Nobu and turdy and crew.......Now the heat from a summer day in sunny Qweensland had started to melt the ice cream that Nobu held in his hand as he flew his mega drifter at 100 ft along the beaches of traincrash bay [derail] he held his hand so the melted icecream dribbled out the back onto his prop, now a couple of seconds later he heard a ..........................

  2. Er, not a Hurricane in the picture above. . . as it has the prototype 'Battle's Ident number under the stbd wing, L4935 . . .( I didn't read all the sub-links in that story, got interrupted by the Boss Lady. . ! )

Not the photo you published ,I know that was a battle, but further down in the story there is another photo of a hurricane going up the ramp

  3. I saw this picture. and whilst I guessed the type correctly, I really couldn't figure out the 'Ramp' idea. . .and it isn't really explained in the link below either. I am thinking that it may have been to transport aircraft from the factory up to the test runway, but this would only be a guess, as the site at Longbridge Austin Car works near Birmingham has altered such a lot over the years. There is a note about the ramp under this photo in the link. . . but not Why it is there. . .L4935 was the very first Battle, made in 1937.

Your right as if you scroldown the photos and stories in the link , you will find a photo with an explaning sentence underneath saying this is a hurricane on the ramp about to be lifted to the airfield................

  4. Does Twitter & Skype work without phone handset's and is completely free of charge ?.Never Skyped nor twittered & very really use FB, but SRFC is there, (live weather at field) as well as Hummel Aviation, HARS.and a lot more I don't follow.

So it comes in handy even if you don't follow anything.

    spacesailor

Use skype all the time on my laptop, and its free for skype to skype face to face calls , but charges you if you ring any other number,,[you must have some credit on skype to use it though.............

  5. When I was faced with what to do about the ever increasing amount of off topic posts that were appearing here on Recreational Flying I wasn't sure which way to go. Did you know that most of the top 10 forum sites in the world all started off discussing a specific topic like Recreational Flying is i.e. recreational aviation. These top sites with millions and millions of posts and thousands and thousands of users online at the same time no longer have anything really to do with the topic that they started with...off topic took over and made them what they are today. If I took the same approach we would have lost the reasoning of why Recreational Flying was started for and the objectives behind the site, through the interchange of knowledge and experience, keep recreational aviators safer, increase their flying skills and to undertake better and proper maintenance on their aircraft.

That is the reason why Whats Up Australia was created and threads like the NES, funny signs, videos, religious and political threads and posts were moved to the new site. Access to Whats Up Australia from Recreational Flying is still easy by simply clicking the Off Topic tab on the What's New page here on Recreational Flying.

Whats Up Australia is going well given its very early days and you can discuss just about anything there with minimal moderation.

Can I still start a chapter 2 on here Ian, as it,s aviation laughter on the aviation laughter link youhave on here so I think with all the references tohelicopters nobu and his zero and other fine characters in their flying machines , I think it,s not really off topic at all as it is aviation relavent material being posted sobe it in an tounge in cheek way ???

  6. I don't think anyone will realise the heights this story reached bull, escpecially the chapter where Tomo flew a helicopter backwards to the Antarctic. I'll fish the story out and add a tag.

It,s gone missing Turbo, bloody shame as that story go,s right back

  8. I know which I prefer. This site is far superior to Social Media. i made the mistake of joining Facebook, mainly to get info about one flying business. Since then I just get bombarded with rubbish emails about what someone has posted or someone wants to be friends. Joining them was nearly as bad a mistake as bringing Leucaenia on to my property.

On the facebook site you go to settings and you can select the no emails option, that will fix your problem

  9. ...we had control line. Some still race with control line models today. Quite entertaining to watch. You get the impression that with one false move you could risk decapitation.

  10. I once used a hole in the wall bank machine in Sydney at Darlinghurst near the maritime museum, and withdrew 400 out of my bank , that night another 400 was taken out of my account, I contacted the bank and they investigated and it turned out that the hole in the wall machine had a scimmer thing fitted by scammers and they had got over 100 people before they closed it down. The bank took a long time [4 weeks] but eventually got my money back, they did not catch them as far as I know......[commonwealth bank]

  11. If members want it, whether that be low key or bigger, make it so?Forget the airshow display, make it a social / flying / educational event. Perhaps an air-rally for those travelling from afar too.

And with no profit chasing companies to overrule the event with the chasing of that profit margin,[Airventure Australia, for profit company]etc

  12. Calm down bull, I'm not a lawyer so you can keep that to yourself.A live prop is a reasonably forseeable risk with a crowd, including children milling around. There doesn't have to be a prior incident; for example there had been nothing like Le Mans in 1995 in world history.

I've already posted on how the Aerobatics organisers at Ballarat separated the aircraft from the crowd, and if anyone gets the vapours at having to hold up a piece of orange plastic for a few minutes, they are in the wrong business.

Plenty of people are successfully conducting fly-ins right now without the histrionics, and the concept being discussed here doesn't present a problem to organise, it's just how you manage it.

Your words say it all,,,,,a LIVE PROP,,,,,,now going back to the prior discussed engine starting and areas rules at flyins that are well managed there is ZERO risk of anyone coming into contact with a LIVE prop as all display aircraft and aircraft on the flightline that are available for inspection by the public ,, have been disabled electrically ,,ie all keys removed and master battery keys removed,, so therefore their props are not LIVE but very much DEAD,would you not agree??????ps all well trained pilots should know to never leave a engine in a LIVE condition with either mags turned on or keys turned on

Totally Agree with that,,,,,but a well run flyin with prior arranged rules concerning engine starts and areas where this is permitted leaves no danger to the public or that drunk john and his uncontrolled dog that the children are chasing do,s it???? This misconception that a regional flyin needs a ss type security force with draconian safety rules based on no prior evidence of danger , and a outragest demands for over the top insurance coverage ,,,,,what a load of codswollop....................

  14. The problem is they don't; and then someone gets hurt and sues.

So it is a provable fact that people DONT BEHAVE AND ACT LIKE ADULTS AT REGIONAL FLYINS, ah TURBO, can you please provide provable facts about these incidents that you say are happening at regional flyins and list the actual injuries and deaths that you SAY occur????please list them in dated order and use a4 size sheet of paper cause that will leave heaps of room for comments as the known incidents that have occurred at regional flyins in the last 30 years are in the single digits......................Please PROVE me wrong on this one Turbo and you know as a LAWYER how important provable facts are in a court ah????

  15. The problem is they don't; and then someone gets hurt and sues. You have a duty of care to protect people from reasonably forseeable risks, not everything that could possibly occur.

So what is ""reasonable foreseeable risk about people walking into props without the incident history to back it up ,,even with your two examples you provided [which really cant be used as they where not at a flyin] but even with them , the amount of flyins each year all over Australia number at least 100 a year, and times that by the last 30 years , with only those two incidents you get a result of 3000 flyins with only two prop incidents [not really related to flyins anyway] still gives you a risk factor of less then 1 %,so going by this risk assessment at 1% the risk of prop strike to people at flyins is less than the risk of someone being struck by lightning, So there is no real justification for the heavy handed approach towards crowd control and FENCING is there Turbo ,,,So using this as a fact sheet the ONLY reason I can see for the requirement of expensive insurance and litigation protection provided by LAWYERS is to increase the PROFIT margins of LAWYERS don't you think TURBO Mr Lawyer??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  16. Although not at flyins two spring to mind; the golfer who had his arm ripped off and the guy who chopped himself up at Parafield. We helped an aboriginal community set up a track once, and since our crowd protection had been developed from previous accidents, they knew they couldn’t compromise on the specifications but they only had about 50 spectators, so they built the safety structure around the 50 seats.

Well both the above mentioned events that you provided are more to do with pilots own training [so do we ban instructors too?] and have really nothing to do with the question I asked you, so please stop with the political speak and provide REAL answers to the question asked please??? sorry about going offline there for a minute, I had to fill out a risk assessment about tasting the lovely chicken soup that my loving partner is cooking me straight out of the pot, and dipping the same spoon in more then twice to validate the fact that it tasted awesome,,,And high on the list was ,one,,,getting stabbed by her,,,two spilling burning liquid apon myself and ,three, burning my throut by doing it so quick she could not catch me,,,,well after a minute of study and a quick flick through mountains of safety culture books , I reasoned that the taste of the soup was worth the risk, so bugger it I just did it,,,,and you know what Turbo?? I did not get stabbed or burned by scalding liquid nor did I burn my throat ,,,but that soup is delicious so I reckon it was worth the risk,,,see I do take your lawyery advice velly carefully mate thanks........[ps About your example of the country aboriginal races you provided,, I don't know how you got away with it as I have lived and worked with communities from cape York to broome and it,s amazing you did not get a riot on your hands,,or did you put the bar inside that fence with the seats??as that would have worked a treat..............

  17. Now all you have to do bull is separate those dogs, kids, and drunks from props. All have featured in past displays at some time, not to mention the guy who prop started his aircraft with the throttle open

Please Turbo can you give me ONE example [besides the runaway plane] of anyone ever in the last 30 yrs be they drunks or dogs or kids of walking into a prop at a flyin in Australia???as you lawyers seem to make it out like this happens every year at many uncontrolled [red neck] uncivilised or mum and dad and uncle Bob events,,,please could you supply the links to these nasty happenings at aussie flyins every year mate to justify your great fear of props???

  18. Now all you have to do bull is separate those dogs, kids, and drunks from props. All have featured in past displays at some time, not to mention the guy who prop started his aircraft with the throttle open

Easy as , as posted in the simple common sence rules I posted days before the event , was one rule that drinking was to be only done in the hanger s at night after flying had finished for the day ,and that all dogs if bought had to remain on a lead at all times ,and kids where to remain under the care of parents at all times [but we also set up a play area in a hanger for them] And as to your reference to the lovely old codger with the flooded 503 on his Scott winton designed aircraft years ago ,,,well that was at one of the supposed safety thingy run by lawyers and bean counters too, nothing to really do with the event just the management and it really comes down to the rules about starting aircraft and parking areas , already mentioned in the lead up to the event, Turbo anything else you can come up with to stop aviators having great get togethers and having fun because it is not run by airventury or raaaaa thingymebob fellas or paying out over priced fees to LAWYERS for bits of paper that are really not worth the value that LAWYERS would let you believe that those bits of paper hold,,,because there will always be someone with bigger pockets and BETTER LAWYERS who will eat you for dinner anyway [sorry about the lawyer thingys mister turbo please don't sue me please,i only have a little airplane........So to have fun you must carry some risk ,because you will NEVER eliminate risk from ANY thing we do[shit I could break my back by falling out of bed rolling over while I,m asleep, but I,m aint gunna put hospital rails on my bed to please some lawyer, nor am I gunna put a muzzle and trim the claws of my CAT because i could get scratched or bitten,,etc,,,,] how far do you go with the nannying Turbo???

  19. You could PATENT 6 foot fences bull

Na I cant do that Turbo me old mate , as I think those pesky airventury narrowmind fellows already did that, and they did call them that name thingy you said jerry but they might have also been there to stop anyone from seeing anything without squares in front of them and any photographers from making any money out of photos of that event too I thinky as they really seemed concerned about that money thingy and to stop any nasty untrustworthy aviator people from jumping that little 1 mt high fence that was already there as it was airside and no outside people could have jumped that little fence , only those sleazy untrustworthy penny scrimping aviators I thinky but I have been wong many times 2 and it could have been there to catch those pesky wondering aeryplane thingys from getting at the crowd too....................lol

  20. And no one forget; I knew bull before he was a National Event Specialist!

And so everyone here knows, I have never ever organised anything before in my life, even birthdays and such used to scare me lol but my brother Doug did the one in 2016and I went to it and helped him , and used his guidance and advice to pull off an awesome 2 days for everyone ,,,So yes Turbo I,ll except your mighty praise with dignity and pride as I even impressed my self lol .. But getting back to the reason for responding to you [TURBO} was to show that it is really not that hard or much of a big headache if you just show some trust in your fellow aviators and be prepared to put up your own money and any other contributors money to make it the best you can with what you have and let the people decide,,,,,as you can see I did many trips with the trailer raiding peoples back yard for their chairs and such etc etc but after the event the feeling I got made it all very worthwhile...............

  21. This year I organised the Lakeside Easter flyin/BBq with minimal marshals and no fences at all just orange cones and the main talking/gathering place was a large hanger with tables and chairs and seats outside to watch the rc model boys doing their thing as well and had over 60 people and 30 aircraft for two days and it was fantastic weekend with morning bbq breaky and roast pork dinner. Over the whole weekend there was not one incident or accident, nor was there any runway incursions or clashes, nor did we have anyone walking into props or breaking planes etc and there was a few kids there too. Now in the lead up to this event I posted a simple set of rules and guidelines about parking engine start up s etc and also a few locals turned up for a look too as the rc club I invited brought out their families and everyone was well behaved and used COMMON SENCE and as I said before there was not ONE problem during this event and everyone had a ball,So it,s not that hard to organise this type of gathering at all just need willing people who are prepared to give a bit of time and effort. ps rather then look like a commercial money charging event, which would put it into car 156 area,,i just had a big money box donation tin and told everyone to just chuck in what they thought the weekend and dinner was worth,,,,well all up after covering all costs and buying Pooly a bottle of rum [he owns the airstrip lol] we had excess remaining so that sort of speaks for itself about how people are not scared of paying a bit for something that is run right with out the ss type marshals and 6ft high fences and nany uni students trying to tell aviators and friends how to behave around airplanes etc, all up people responded beautifully to common sence rules without the cracking of jackboots and whipping of canes etc and they enjoyed themselves ....................Scott Evans....................pps regarding communications we are ctaf with everyone calling arrivals at 5 miles and then using see and be seen and talked to eachother and this resulted in not one air related or runway issue either.................
