Yes superior wisdom gleaned from a brief news article will always trump the actual employers knowledge of the situation and those on the flight. Well done facthunter...Gentreau, all your posts are on the money, reasoned and well considered. You can't hang this guy without going into it further.
don't stop hunting! -
So if you are tootling along on a recreational flight out over the Coral Sea, perhaps en-route to New Caledonia it seems there is an island that doesn't exist and never has:
The maps lie: Australian scientists discover Manhattan-sized island doesn’t actually exist
Reality always wins...

Sorry Gentreau, not to seem rude but this person put several people in grave danger not to mention an expensive aircraft and the credibility of the RFDS. Sacking him was kind, he should have also been heavily fined by CASA in my opinion. Being a commercial pilot is a serious and responsible occupation.

I have no sympathy for junkies, no and I don't believe this stuff is in legitimate pharmaceuticals. That's why he was sacked. And yes I'm very familiar with extremely long work hours.

Why not? And what does his duty times have to do with it? If he is a junkie he belongs on the ground and not in any sort of vehicle. Possibly a cardboard box in the parklands would suit.... seems to be where they end up.Don't judge this pilot too quickly. We don't even know what his flight and duty times had been in the last month! -
Wow, conc nitric acid is indeed nasty stuff. I seem to dimly recall distilling a small amount once in younger chemistry days, I no longer have yellow nitric stains on my fingers. I understand it is difficult to store as it catches fire to many things on contact and is quite unstable. The Nazi's should have been encouraged to use more of it, they may have disappeared sooner.Fuel was RFNA (Red Fuming Nitric Acid) and a hydrogen peroxide of some sort. Either would dissolve the pilot. The two fuels were hypergolic meaning they ignited (exploded) on contact with each other. -
^ This is a great approach I think. You need to find an instructor / school that teaches both IMO.

Heard of some older men pretending to be teenagers on the internet for deviant reasons, could this be a kid pretending to be an old guy in order to flog his goods?
-
Well I figured with that post he was just winding us up (some of us).Given the link in your signature David, is this post spam? -
Funny hair!

Yes, genuinely old people can like spell and all....Nope (by the way, that's 'too old to fly').

Flaring is over-rated.

These will be great once battery energy density is about ten times what it currently is.
Speaking of which I must remember to pack more bricks on my next commercial flight through Mackay.

Totally agree, a Spitfire or P51 waits for no-one, certainly not a plastic four-pot screamer.I think a better procedure would be for all Warbirds to depart first....
-
Now how about that - I have heard the exact opposite claimed! As I don't run Avgas I don't have an informed opinion on this.Apparently mogas is more prone to carby ice than avgas - something to to with volatility or boiling point? -
Van's have the reputation of excellent back-up / technical support plus I love the fact you can buy so many aftermarket bits for them such as complete leather upholstered seats and interior panels. Again as FT says you can sometimes see partially completed quick build kits, less work to do (assuming what has been done is neat). If not local always a good excuse to visit the States to check it out... Apart from maybe Zenith and a couple of others I'd be wary of other US manufacturers, often the product is good but you need to check how many are flying and also once you buy it you may be on your own. Or buy an AU kit of course as others have mentioned.

Do you run Avgas or Mogas Vev?

I get it Ian, CASA is the gorilla right?

Heh, violent protests and burning a few embassies seems to work these days...

-
It is only by the good grace of us taxpayers that CASA exists at all. They are our servants and as such ultimately we hold the leash.

I agree - looks the part and even sounds just like a rotax.

PPQ Constant circling, yet not a very tight circle - picking up a signal.... or some other reason?
-
No, plenty of space for light artillery.
-
Just click on the aircraft and its flight comes up
Thanks Ian.This process is sad and frustrating, in this day and age of low cost and slick mapping and avionic devices we really should be able to do much better with location. This drawn out search is just a bad situation for all parties involved.

RFDS Pilot on drugs while flying!!!!
in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Posted
Well just to repeat the employer RFDS has ah somewhat more information available to them than the news article, so he was sacked. To counter this dismissal requires something more than just speculation get it?
Seems strange to me that some would imply they would be OK to take a commercial flight with a hallucinogenic drug user at the controls. I would say each to their own but this involves the lives of innocent people.
