Yep, if starting out it's probably cheaper to learn GA in the USA and then convert it here. Definitely the case with helos.

Welcome Choc, you'll be popular here - most everyone loves chocolate!

On topic - a new engine is welcome and it all sounds good although personally I'm not a fan of these reduction drive things revving their little hearts out to get anywhere.

Welcome Michael, lots of wheezing geriatrics of course
but I think the main problem for young people is the cost. The nearest school to me charges $230 per hour, nice aircraft but for 99% of young folk this won't fly (hate to think what they charge for GA). Then they try and milk as many hours out of you as they can which I hear is a widespread problem.-

Hmm... worked for Bob Hoover, but 'not recommended' as they say.

I'm disappointed we can't have multi engine, turbines or rocket assist. Love to be the first to crack the sound barrier in an ultralight.

Welcome Porra! BTW one possible bit of confusion you would have noticed in Australia 'SA' generally refers to South Australia (or sad-ass state to some of us
). I've heard South Africa is very beautiful, sure you must miss it. -
In excess of 1000 with no breakdown at all - so no survey option available.

Yep, 2200 first opened at 1000 hours and pristine inside. Was running great also. A surprise to many but it can happen...Can anyone indicate honestly, either their own, or someone they know, and can prove, that they have a 2200 engine that made 1000 hour top end without EVER having a problem, ie, never being opened up for anything more than normal scheduled maint, and ignoring minor issues. I dont want to hear that yours made it, but you replaced the heads at 220, and 600, and top ended at 800... I want to know if ANY jab 2200 engines made it all the way.-

Tasty?

Some of us. Using an instructor in a rural area where there is permission to go right down to the paddock I found much more realistic than this 500 feet stuff. The hardest part of achieving that is the last bit from 500' to touchdown - the bit we DON'T get to practice. -
The Origin of the Universe?
Newton understood that also. A very wise man indeed.
On topic I'm fine flying with the Jabiru engine and think that there are many, many good parts of the Jabiru engine that very rarely give trouble, however currently I suggest TBO is going to be around 1000 hours realistically. But it is let down by 2 or 3 areas that do break. Just keep hoping the factory would release a significant update that would address the latter parts. In a non-certified aircraft there may be the option to modify the engine, add EFI etc which works a treat I understand.

It's a good tale but there's no truth in it.
The moon landing? What do you think about 9/11?

Thanks folks. Seems like this job could perhaps be done by a drone.I believe (but not certain) that the Dornier is the coordinating aircraft. That's why it's doing orbits at 25,000 feet. -
Can someone please explain how this SAR works.... why the search aircraft repeats the same circuit constantly without moving about?

Yes, no faceplant is better too.

GPS isn't so trendy any more it seems. Next, fresh interest in the sextant?

Trying to pick the accent.... is this South African?

A four point harness or similar may have helped reduce the injuries?

Can they do propellers yet?

You reason in a rational world where ministers read and understand the legislation offered to them by the PS. I'm not sure that is the case currently...

-
Ratchet good points although I think you put too much emphasis on the politicians / ministers. The reality is these days the regulations that affect our daily lives are mostly coming from senior public servants and their bottom feeding lawyer buddies, the ministers are largely there to rubber stamp the paperwork & talk to their senator pals to get things through parliament. That is why changing the government doesn't really change the everyday rules that affect our daily lives all that much, the same back rooms boys carry on regardless of which government is in at the time. So in my opinion it's CASA who are going to be calling the shots here & they will do whatever they see as most politically expedient for them.

Yes, we really do appreciate all the tax money over the years - it's been put to such good use - but time to knock it off, the government has enough money now and doesn't need any more.
Make sure you get plenty of sunshine and fresh air Mark....

This is why I love my job!

Lord Howe was an ancestor...?
Sweet view indeed, the early morning light kinda made me feel sleepy. When I saw the runway arrows were pointing in the opposite direction I was surprised but then realised they were indicating the threshold and you hadn't come in the wrong way.
