  1. I have no income derived from aviation with respect to the type of aircraft and flying overseen by RA-Aus.

This part is good IMO. Not being an instructor or owner of a school helps remove the potential temptation to add additional regulation & cost to students and RA-Aus pilots. (No, not implying all are that way inclined).

  2. Hello Frank, my knowledge of PPC's is quite limited but I understand there are some significant differences to conventional aircraft and stability in the take-off phase is the most dangerous issue (where four wheels - with steering - would help most) and must always be directly into the wind, same as with landings. So I don't think you are going to be doing cross wind landings except in a very low breeze perhaps and of course the roll is quite minimal.

  3. Very nice Timbgy! Is the second seat the fuel tank or something?

Can't work out why they don't make these things four wheelers, so much more stable on take off which I understand is the critical phase. Didn't take them long to figure out ATV's with three wheels were dangerous, now everything is quad. If anyone knows the reasoning behind the three wheels on PPC's I would be interested to hear, maybe I'm missing something obvious.

  4. Hi Wai, (I wanted to say that) just a comment - I thought the survey inclusion of traffic speeding fines had little relevance. Twenty years ago it would have been but today at least where I live a speeding fine has no relevance to risk taking. At some stage everyone gets a fine now from your grandmother down to the revhead teenagers, in a desperate grab for our cash the tolerance of traffic radars has been reduced to a tiny margin over the posted limit and they are positioned on downhill runs and the like. Then the next step is to reduce the posted limits. Perhaps you could have asked something along the lines of "exceed the posted speed limit by 10 kmh or more".

  5. Really the person(s) responsible at CASA should loose their job, everything about this appears to be negligence. It might even cost us, the taxpayers, a lot of money if they are sued by the incinerated folks families. Not much point even having the organisation if they ignore serious issues whilst busy chasing trivial non-safety related paperwork.

I think I'll write to the opposition and request a complete overhaul of CASA when they get in, I suspect most in the aviation industry outside the Qantas inner circle of buddies would like to see this.

  6. how many of you have had the mechanic give you your rego inspection slip for your car and say something like 'Shes all good to go, just had to replace a rear blinker bulb and grease your front wheel bearings, though,' hey? Finding small things through mandated checks before they cause an incident is what this kind of legislation is all about.

Over here there is no annual inspection of cars for registration. And guess how many more accidents there are caused by defective cars? None.

As Andy said, when it comes to safety pilot error is the issue.

  7. Do you think that the election will impact the turnout at AusFly?

Or - do you think the turnout at Ausfly will impact the election?

If she > insane.gif.b56be3c4390e84bce5e5e6bf4f69a458.gif < not getting many votes it may be an excuse to try. Buncha misogynists at Ausfly too probably.

  8. And yet Ultralights are buzzing around the place all the time and they have a park for them nearby

You must live in an interesting part of China. Other Chinese people I know say they don't see any private aircraft and the only ones they are aware of is that of the rich and famous like Jackie Chan. At least Jabiru have local customers to test run their engines for them.

  9. From memory the revenue relating to Aircraft registration was circa $350k pa

That would be including the insurance component? I was talking only about registration which - after the initial one - is a charge for doing nothing.

Public Liability Insurance could remain annual or be offered bi-annual for convenience / cost saving. Also owners should always be free to source their own of course.
