Every time Rotax is mentioned you say how badly designed they are and all the problems they have.
Yet no one else has much trouble with them. Yesterday I was talking to my instructor about aircraft and he said 912 are bullet proof. He has thousands of hours behind 912 uls and has never had an issue.
true, but what he says about adding a crank snout and increasing the bearing area has to help.
the jabiru prop extension is probably fine until there is a slight imbalance from prop damage and wear.
i had never seen a texan until last week. did 3 hrs dual training. got another 2 on friday then hopefully back to solo.
i like the aircraft. flies nice and climbs good. big cabin.
So you would think a crank snout with more bearing area and getting rid of the long extension should fix the problem .
I know when I got my 2200 I thought the prop was a long way from the crankcase.
there is not much support for the crank snout and they often use long extensions to mount the props. cherna believes the cranks would be fine if they had more substantial support behind the prop.
this video paul cherna has on facebook shows what he considers the problem with jab cranks.

i have a friend looking at changing a 24 to 24 experimental , wondering if anyone knows what it cost roughly to do this.
there was discussion about it a while back but i can't find the thread.
